Mashed Potatoes - The Hugo Combo, setups and character specific tech thread

If someone wants to make a sticky thread, they should make a new one and reserve the first 10 posts or so, and then get the mods to sticky it (or mark it as an announcement). If it’s a matchup thread, plan for the future now since you can’t (or at least we can’t) “insert” posts below the OP without making a new thread.

So, I did this in training mode and it’s a kill (or near-kill) against anyone not paying attention or expecting a full combo.

Claps HP,MP,EX,LP, then Ultra Throw, 2EX.Claps Ultra2. IT KILLS CHARACTERS. 907damage looooool.

Now, the unfortunate part. All they have to do to escape it is jump or reversal it with something fast or throw-invuln. Nothing would please me more than seeing this in a match.

Meaty HP clap with a kara ex ultra throw OS catches Makoto, Chun, Rose, E Ryu and Gen backdash (only tested these characters). Only Chun Li could jump out of the uthrow. Tried mashing backdash and walking back after the backdash and was still thrown (outside of using Chun Li).

Two gimmicky setups I use once in a while:

Body Splash / J.HK > c.mp hit > Ultra Throw

Ultra Throw > Walk forward > S.mp > Kara ex ultra throw

I can record when I get home if someone needs it.

THIS! This is quite effective, it worked against alot of opponents when i played offline
yesterday. Hp usually reaches if you’re near them. You can also do LP spd after a LP clap , cr mp.

If the frames are true you should be able to do a ex ultra throw after cr mp on hit and grab them.

Although “Safe” none of these setups seem to hit meaty (i’ve tried on Sagat and Cammy) Anyone have other safe jumps?

You can extend the “slight walk” to beat delayed wakeup. I have a feeling that Hugo’s frame data isnt’ going to lend itself to automatic setups (esp against delayed wakeup since he doesn’t have a 10f normal)
fwd.throw, 1xfwd.dash, slight walk forward, splash (5f safe jump tested on Sagat on Cammy)
ultra throw, lp.clap, lk.back breaker, slight walk forward, splash (5f Safe jump tested on Sagat)
meat squasher, cr.mk, splash (looks like a 3f safe jump, Sagat can walk out of it, Hugo can block Ryu’s reversal DP, can probably O/S dp, but since i don’t think you can get the setup deep corner its not guaranteed.

Don’t know if it has already been posted. But Hugo’s buttsplash overhead can link from both his Fierce, Medium, and EX claps. Also his Crouching fierce can link from fierce and medium claps. Sorry I didn’t post the damage and stun. But they do work. And I likes it…

I see Hugo players combo into backbreaker after a super. I can’t seem to get this to connect. Am I missing something?

Do the back breaker as the super is happening not afterwards.

But what the one that he means IS afterwards, he’s talking about linking BB after Super, wich does more damage than the special one that is cancelled.
I guess it’s character specific, and corner only (try it on trainning mode against Balrog)

This seems about right (character specific link into back-breaker in the corner). You can also link U2 after AA super in the corner which seems to be character specific. Works on Balrog when he’s at head height. So a combo like Ultra throw, mp.clap, lp.clap, super (easier to link that cancel for me), then link U2 when Balrog’s at head height. You can also do Focus attack, delayed hp.clap (catches in airborne frames), lp.clap, super [corner carry], U2.

SO i think i’ve found a potential setup, it does not look like it works on all characters, and somehow some characters can throw hugo out of the setup.

Anyway, the setup is MP clap, cr hp, Dash mp clap whiff into a LK ultra throw. They can’t jab you out of it, they can’t grab you out of it (looks like i could with ryus backthrow…).

Needs more Testing.

Ok, this setup could be more of a gimmicky setup… Dudley can jab him out of it walk bakwards., makoto can walk under it, so it might be character specific.

Ok so on dudley you have to do, cr hp , dash hp clap whiff, EX ultra throw. he can’t walk bakwards to avoid it, he can’t jab you out of it.

I think I found a “good” vs people who like to do throws or neutral jump you a lot. Cr.LK+LP+HP. I started doing it vs a viper player and I kept hitting them as they were jumping. By good I mean it’s hilarious when it works and it only hasn’t worked when they do nothing. Works on seeing if I can PLink LPHP~Lk to also work but this wouldn’t catch as well.

Could you explain why hitting those buttons together is good? I don’t quite follow.

It’s a tech throw OS into buttons.
If they throw, you’ll tech. If they don’t throw, a d.HP comes out.

im taking a random guess and saying that the input was wrote out wrong? im thinking its lp+lk~hp which is a throw attempt, but if they try to neutral jump they will avoid the throw but get tagged by the stand hp, and if the throw is teched the stand hp will not come out. but almost every character has a situation like that, so heres to hoping im wrong and this is actually a unique set up that we will hopefully get more insight on.

nah I actually mean Lp+Lk+HP. It’s not actually that great in reality or anything new but my god is it hilarious to land and works quite a bit. I kept getting my stuff baited by neutral jump or they’d try to throw me a lot on due to having throw-able specials so I just did this. The main downside is if they actually don’t do anything you get Cr.hp to come out and will be punished. St.HP doesn’t work because they just jump right over it.
Fun aside, a more realistic thing to do is just crouch tech and if they jump react with backbreaker because they’ll always get hit.
There might be characters you could probably plink with HP and beat their neutral jump but I don’t know who it would be.
