Man, didn’t know they are still around. I still have MAS with an old school P360 and competition buttons that’s going strong after almost 15 years. Anyone know if they still make / sell the MAS mini case? Would love to get a MAS mini case and pop in Sanwa pushbuttons alongside my old P360. Anyone have any experience with the smaller form factor MAS mini’s?

We still sell the mini case.

Please note that any questions (or orders) about cases can be handled via twitter @ <a href=“https://twitter.com/MASArcadeSticks” target="_blank" rel=“nofollow” style=“box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; outline: 0px; vertical-align: baseline; text-decoration: none; color: rgb(40, 159, 218); background-color: rgb(250, 250, 250);”>https://twitter.com/MASArcadeSticks or you can PM me and I’ll do my best to help you out that way as well.
I have a question. he wording on ArcadeShock’s Facebook/Twitter seems to indicate that the Opticon.JP is simply a new optical PCB mounted on the JLF. Does this mean that the $35 for it (assuming it’s priced the same as as the Opticon.A) for the JLF stick with the Opticon PCB or is it simply just the PCB? Also, if it’s the latter, then what’s the value proposition on this compared to the Spark?

Sorry for the confusion. There were various modifications made to the joystick as a whole and so you are not just receiving a PCB mounted onto a standard JLF. If you were to place our PCB onto some other existing joystick, it would perform pretty poorly, if it all.

d3v said:

Also, if it’s the latter, then what’s the value proposition on this compared to the Spark?

Although it isn’t the latter, I would still be unable to answer this as I am not familiar with any one else’s product. Short of coming down and visiting to try the Opticon on your own (which you’re more than welcome to do), I don’t think there are any comparisons I can make to someone else’s (unless we’re talking about a standard Happ Perfect 360 or standard JLF).

Also, I’m currently unaware of any pricing for the Japanese Opticon, but there’s a good chance it’ll be slightly higher than the $35 for the American version. I hope that helps answer a few questions.

I’m comparing it to @Toodles Spark, which these days is one of the more common Optical PCB mods for a JLF - one that is preferred partly because it’s “homegrown” so to speak (all the stuff from Godlike from the Spark to the mult-console Cthulhu PCB is by SRK TT member Toodles). The regular version of the Spark sells for $35 at gdlk.co.
To be completely fair, and respecting of Toodles, or any other SRK TT member for that matter, I don’t believe it would be fair to start a comparison between joysticks. We get asked this question quite often and I believe it basically boils down to preference. Quality can only speak for itself when you are actually using the joystick and are completely 100% satisfied with what you’re using.

With that being said, if it’s only a PCB to be attached to a standard JLF, the difference would be in that our joystick is modified, not just the PCB. We sell the entire joystick as a whole because we went a little further with trying to improve the quality of the joystick. The metal shaft on the joystick is actually centered beyond that of a standard joystick and was modified to what we believe to be of a higher quality of detection and movement. The metal shaft is held in place a lot better than a standard joystick, while still allowing the same range of motion, sensitivity, and performance to that of a standard perfect 360 or any other joystick. You can also just as easily change the sensitivity of the joystick to your liking. We will be including a tutorial on how to do this with our Opticon within the next coming weeks.
Got my opticon. Looks good, feels good, but have yet to test it out. Anyone else get one?
Yup. Picked one up and am in the same boat. Looks good. Feels IMO better than a Happ P360. Have yet to test as I’m still looking for an American style case.
Well, looks ilke I’ll have to plan out an American style stick now. Just need a case for it…
How can I get one?
He’s currently sold out, but once he gets more, he’ll post it up.
Any custom stick makers out there make slim cases with Happ / American mounting options though? Thinking of getting some new Happ action going or the Opticon if reviews end up being good.
honestly the slimmest you can go for a Happ stick would be 3in deep, that just enough room for the plexi/back pannel to clear the buttons. one guy who made a really nice slim case for me was Nightwalker.
this is awesome news. i will be looking to get one of these soon.
So do I install the opticon with pcb facing to the right like the happ p360?
Figured it out, just a quick review:
In case people weren’t aware MAS Systems has put up another batch of these on eBay.
got one of these, gonna get it put in my stick in a bit
A few things.
One of my pcbs crapped out, no down input. MAS hooked it up though and sent me a replacement when I shipped back the old one.
Also, if you want to adjust the sensitivity, it is quite easy. I felt the dead zone of the sticks was a little too big to my liking. The homies and I were dropping combos. However, after I raised the pcb a bit I got the sensitivity increased to my liking. Now they are way better. I just wish they would have put in the diagram on how to do this when I ordered them.
Here it is if anyone does not feel their sticks are responsive enough:

^ Awesome. american sticks got better.
Now I want to replace the competition joystick from one of my customs.
