Marvel's Netflix Universe: Return of the Kingpin

There’s this app developer I’ve been following for awhile now Allen Wong, he made millions developing a police scanner app, his app blew up when Spiderman1/2 used it, during Hurricane Katrina everyone was using it and then again in another movie. Now in this show Jessica keeps referencing “Police Scanner App” lol. Dude has had the 1st and 2nd highest rated police scanners on itunes for years now, Marvel indirectly making him multiple millions every year, I need to figure out how to do this

Overall, apps are quite easy to make unless you’re doing something content heavy (UX/UI will take a long time to get right). It’s more about the idea. Just have to be creative and think of a unique way to market an app that fills a need in someone’s everyday life. Once you figure out what that need is, the rest is cake.

Daredevil was a whole different beast, mainly because he was supposed to be a trained fighting machine. Jessica and Luke are accidents, trying to hide what they can do, and untrained and unsure of what they could do.

I think this was done to save money on production. Also, she’s not really jumping, she just flying, very very poorly. I was really hoping they would show her flying in the first season.

They never explicitly say it in Alias, but I think her not flying is part of her PTSD. When they show flashbacks to her as Jewel, she’s clearly flying - but doesn’t after being free of Killgrave. I think she even flies en route to the Avengers beating her down.

Finished, great fun, could have been trimmed a couple episodes or so, DAVID TENNANT

I think the worst thing about this film, coming on the heels of Daredevil, is the lack of “special” shots to emphasise scenes - the only one I really remember is when Jessica first sees Kilgrave’s face early on.

In comparison, Daredevil had:

  • One take shot fight at the end of the second episode
  • World on Fire vision
  • Flashback episode - not really a scene of course, but it really stood out with its timing and how it ties to the main characters
  • Close ups of Kingpin’s face and nuance

Still solid, enjoyed it a lot, Kilgrave is fucked up.

Even when she was Jewel, she sucked at flying. But yeah, she did fly:

Her first attempt at flying failed miserably, but she landed on Scorpion and people just assumed she was a hero, so she ran with it.

although you could be right, her not flying could either be imposed on herself (to avoid drawing attention to herself, and thus avoid Kilgrave), or because of PTSD.

Almost done with the show. So far I agree with everyone here about the show. My thing is that Kilgrave keeps escaping and that was getting annoying as shit. I was more interested in Luke and whomever else they would mention (besides from making obvious references to the Hulk and Avengers). All in all its cool, but it is just a setup episode for when they Do Luke Cage and the rest of the squad. Good stuff though.

Agreed 100%, but easier said than done.

Yeh these guys trying their utmost not to kill anyone so they have to hold back that part was clear but there is a clear difference with the amount of choreography work that went into making that bar fight and the other fight I mentioned compared to the smaller battles (to be honest I liked it more when she was just KO’ing fools with one punch and moving on). There was a similar issue with DD but there were glaring problems even with the big ones.

I am willing to attribute that to the smaller budget these are getting. The fights aren’t on the level of the movies but I still enjoy them.

Just finished.

Overall it’s good. I’ll cosign essentially everything TFO said about it: step below DD, good and bad fight scenes, Killgrave being “known” where Fisk was evolving. Bubbles is awesome, happy he and upstairs girl made up.

Spoiler

Wish DD would have shown up in her office like, “So I heard from a friend…” or something, but that would have just been Marvel fanservice lol.

Cage is a beast.

Finally finished myself. Have to agree with the consensus. Solid show, but not as good as Daredevil mostly because things dragged a slight bit too long and there were certainly some things that felt extraneous to the entire whole. Setting up other corners of the MNU was a bit more clunky than it was handled in Daredevil as well. But really it’s Jessica, Trish and Killgrave that will keep you invested from start to finish.

Well, the series definitely improves much by the middle, big changes to the status quo, Kilgrave is a really interesting villain that keeps you guessing, and everything just become more entertaining.

i love how everybody is complaining they didn’t tie in daredevil enough even though they tied in daredevil enough.

hilarious

just like watching that fat kid wiggle

Dudes is just thirsty for more blind ninja action, can’t blame them. Marvel getting ppl hooked like addicts lol

Lol imagine if Disney/Marvel was like FUCK YOU NO MORE it would be nerd rampages everywhere.

Three episodes deep… Killgrave is freaky man… 10/10 on this villain. Like it so far.

Oh yea keep smashing that Luke, ma nigga

I think some of the opinions on why didnt jessica just K.O killgrave all the chances she had are a bit off.

I think people have to bathe themselves more in the psychological destruction jessica jones went through and is recovering from, than just looking for cool stuff to happen. Jessica jones is an extremely faulted “hero”, and her mishaps and carelessness at times are important to express on screen.

[details=Spoiler]
Like when she was living with killgrave, and he was about to tell her how his powers work, but she cut him off. Shes so disgusted to even listen to him, that she actually prevented herself from learning really good info about him, which couldve prevented hopes, and others death and manipulation by killgrave. She does this throughout the 12 episodes, where her stubborness, selfishness, carelessness, and hot headedness keeps her from achieving her goals quicker. Its part of her character development.[/details]

I dont think DD and jessica jones are really comparable other than they are comic book characters. After finishing it, i think overall jessica jones edges out DD still, but only by a tiny margin, and thats mainly because of the greatness of killgrave. I felt like i got a bit more easter eggs and introduction into a larger world that i’m more interested in (elektra, the hand, mysticism in general), in DD, than in jessica jones, but thats fine. I cant fault jessica jones for that.

Killgrave is so good, you actually start buying into his bullshit, and feel sympathy for him. Then by the next episode youre like, oh fuck, this nigga got me. lool

The story in jessica jones definitely had me hook line and sinker more than DD (not to say DD’s was bad or anything. it was obviously still good). You get really invested in jessica, killgrave, luke, and other characters i wont mention as to not spoil.

Also, about the neighbor

Spoiler

I knew something was up from the first episode. lol. I’m like, how is this junky paying rent in nyc of all places. I’m not going to ignore that. I didnt suspect he was working for killgrave immediately, because i was so invested in other shit going on, but when it got revealed, i was like, oh ya, duh bitch, how is a junky paying rent in nyc. lol

Shut up Jimmy its just a TV show.

meh…not impressed with JJ. not even sure if target audiences are women only or

3 episodes in and pretty boring so far. DD was way better.
