Marvel's Netflix Universe: Return of the Kingpin

Well they’re afraid of dying because there’s no coming back like usual. It makes complete sense.

It’s not a plothole as we didn’t know what’s been keeping them alive until now. Alexandria used up the last of the substance to bring back Elektra. Bakuto didn’t have his head cut off when he died in Iron Fist so he was able to come back.

no i specifically said what i meant lol. they referenced elektra being an immortal weapon. it was weird…because shes def not. but it may have been an idea they were playing with when they were retconning daredevil to intersect with iron fist.

fixed, you asshole…

…soo much shakey cam
Everybody got a lot of screen time but this was more of a DareDevil and Co.

I don’t know what it was but I really lost interest by the finale.

As people have mentioned Danny is leaps and bounds better than he was in Iron Fist. Colter was the only one coming off stiff at times.

Out of all of them I really looking forward to seeing more Jeeeeesssicaaaaa.

Defenders was aight at best. The people in here who can’t follow plotlines are dumb as hell…but it also doesn’t make the plotlines good either. The show pretty much lived and died on the character interactions as has been said, and luckily those were on point. Hopefully it just leads to more intermingling between the casts rather than any more full blown teamups though.

As for the plot and everything else…

[details=Spoiler]Other than Weaver’s solid Alexandra…the Hand were once again pretty meh. What REALLY hurt is making the Hand member with the most lines that isn’t Weaver…being the one person speaking goddamn Japanese. Context and parroting can only take you so far in a conversation.
It completely killed a lot of the tension in quite a few scenes when it’s so annoying to follow what’s being said. Not to mention they completely cut off Madame Gao’s balls by making her essentially a brown-noser.

Also we have yet another show where they cut off a villain before the climax of the damn story. They should’ve learned with Cottonmouth that said shit just doesn’t work. Forcing Elektra to suddenly play Big Bad with two episodes to go was way too much of a shift especially since she had to carry such a poor supporting villain cast.

Which goes to speak to the pacing. It honestly sucked. We all complained about shit like Jessica Jones and Luke Cage probably being a couple episodes too long, well Defenders was a couple episodes too short. It REALLY needed to hit the 10 episode mark to flesh things out a lot more,
especially on the villain side of things.

Lastly my gripes are coming to Karen. Foggy gets his pass as despite his misgivings he did give Matt the support he actually needed without being nearly as heavy handed as he has in the past, and he also has legitimate reason for his guilt at the end. Karen though…it just got REAL tiring to see her treat Matt’s life as Daredevil as a disease that needed to be stricken from him. ESPECIALLY since they got put in close proximity to the other three heroes who all have legitimate support groups of friends, family, or lovers. They all have those and yet Matt gets stuck with two people who would do anything to undermine him at any cost (except again, Foggy coming through at the end) even though it was quite blatant the stakes that were involved. And we’re probably gonna be back to square one on that shit when they get to DD Season 3…hurray…

But again, the character interactions made the show worth watching regardless of all the above. They all work very well together and made each other better as characters. Luke works a lot better when has people to spread his even keeled wisdom to. Danny is a LOT better when he has people around him to call him out on his single-minded bullshit. Matt needed people around him who actually support his crusade while also being able to call him out for trying to bottle everything up (rather than making both one in the same problem). Jessica needs people around her who both won’t tolerate her bullshit, and can actually do something about it if she isn’t having it. They just bounce off of each other extremely well.[/details]

Ultimately it was an experiment, that ended okay but needs a LOT of polishing and a better Showrunner if they want to make an attempt at it again.

I thought it was pretty good, but you’re right about:

Spoiler

Them killing off the main villain near the end. As it was with Luke Cage, it’s not that they killed off the main villain before the end, it’s that they replaced him (or her in this case) with someone much weaker as a character.

Also, yeah, The Hand was weak. This is why I never really like mysterious, all-powerful corporations with their hands in everything. When it comes time to end them or shine some light on that mystery, it never lives up to hype. I mean, one minute (Iron Fist) The Hand is still as powerful as ever, with tendrils across the world. The next (Defenders), they’re practically on their last breath because their secret sauce (the Lazarus Juice) is gone. Of course, The Hand doesn’t really die because the head guys do (there will be a power vacuum), but this type of inconsistency rears its head a lot for me with ultra powerful mystery groups. I also didn’t like how they made Gao somewhat subservient, but I guess if Alexandra was the boss it’s warranted.

Damn, this was some ole bullshit, Daredevil still the only character getting justice and he couldn’t save this show.

Luke Cage getting his ass beat by an old asian women lol, indeed normal people making luke cage budge at all common.

Jessica Jones in any scene, holy shit.

Iron Fist still a bratty bitch, master of zero martial arts tho a black belt in being so stupid even Stick called him out for his bullshit.

Electra cast as a zombie to cover her fail ass for the most wooden acting since that porno with no sex scenes.

A list of other bullshit complaints mercifully cut short by only needing to sit through 8 episodes.

2/10. A mark for DD and a mark for the old asian bitch and his chi palm strike nonsense.

Worst thing is that the show doesn’t even live up to its title.

It looked like they were going to form a strong team… episodes 3/4 were great, the team was getting chemistry, I loved the scenes in the restaurant with Luke and Danny… then they propose killing/kidnapping Danny and everything goes to crap. Along with Matt going always his way to try to save his evil waifu, they barely worked as a team… it doesn’t make you expect them to come together again anytime soon.

Maybe the idea wasn’t that bad, a temporary alliance where they don’t form a cliché team that fights for good or whatever, but seriously they way they treated Danny kind of made them all look like dicks. And Matt as an idiot for his Elektra obsession.

Thought it was solid, mostly covers its shoddier elements with solid pacing. Large cast, few episodes, lots of action put together didn’t give anyone too much time to stink up the joint.

Find if funny though that DD used to have a rough time with Nobu alone but after taking some time off can suddenly hang with two actual Hand leaders at the same time.

Nobu would shit all over these Hand mooks, thats what pisses me off the most. Its hard to believe he would follow orders from people clearly vastly inferior to himself in the tier list.

Ninja edit: Imagine Kilgrave got wind of the Hand? Shiat…

Predictions:
[] Daredevil S3 villains will be Kingpin and Bullseye
[
] Daredevil S4 will adapt Born Again

Defenders 2’s villains will be that shady doctor that created Nuke in Jessica Jones. A military organization. Nuke back, fully pumped on red pills and with advanced weaponry. Taskmaster could be thrown in there too.
The producers need a sit down with the directors and tell them to up the acting chops and writing. The action and level of violence is in that sweet spot but a few of the actors and some of the story telling is pure garbage and is hurting the overall picture.

Hopefully Punisher will go solo and not get involved in the clown show, I mean watching dudes get their head cut off and bitches losing arms is amazing, but is spoiled by the likes of Iron Fist sprinting about looking like he needs to take a shit. Common guys. Even Rosario Dawson is starting to piss me off, and am going out my own way to enjoy these shows lol.

But what about a woman with the tits of Susan Sarandon and the legs of Sigourney Weaver.

Monica Bellucci?

Not quite there, but not a bad choice.

I think Alexandra could be based on Melissa Morbeck (Squirel Girl villain)

I just finished it a few minutes ago.

Pros:

The character interaction between the four leads improves all of them.

Action scenes esp ep3. Full daylight too!

Sigourney’s acting.

Use of the supporting cast esp Stick

Cons:

Even though Danny is better in this compared to IF, his extremely singleminded “I am iron fist, I was trained in kun lun. I will defeat the hand” schtick is grating
When he said it to Luke, I bust out laughing. I dont know anything abut his comic incarnation, but hes still the most unenjoyable character to me.

It feels like a lot of dialogue was repeated in slightly different ways and used to add fake tension. Esp at the beginning of the final episode.
We get it Luke. Youre a pacifist.

Elektra seemed too powerful.
Also, she couldn’t really rise to the task in the last 2 episodes after a certain character is removed.

Maybe its just me, but I hope they put the Hand on the backburner for a while. Im really sick of Bakuto and his evil Yoda bit as well as Gao.
The Japanese guy delivering so much dialogue in his native language was cool for his scene, then it got annoying to me.
Ironically, the white hat Sowande seemed the most intriguing of them but got very little to do.

Overall: I like it more than IF and Jess, but less than Luke and DD.
8/10

elektra is now a super human…she was more or less always superhuman in comics. just depends on whos writing but now this show implies it.

danny was more like a rich version of spiderman. the biggest flaw in netflix marvel world is danny is nothing like the comic version.

the hand will prob be on the backburner for all the shows except iron fist. Since they rewrote it to be such a big part of his world now.

So from the last few minutes of Episode 8, DD Season 3 may be…

Spoiler

Born Again?
