Marvel's Netflix Universe: Return of the Kingpin

I totally feel the same way.
The way the series has ended, I think they should pursue another story that doesn’t involve The Hand.
They can finally delve into stories about K’un L’un, Shou lao and the legacy of The Immortal Iron Fist, which would provide some character growth for Danny Rand.
Really wouldn’t mind if they threw in some Immortal Weapons in there, that would be epic.

That episode 6 ending tho.

Just got done watching it. Didn’t think defenders was that great. Mainly because iron fist is still wack and took up so much of the story and basically what other posters in here have said. Were I to rank the Netflix series for myself:

  1. Luke cage by a long mile
  2. Daredevil was damn good as well
  3. Jessica jones/defenders
  4. Iron fist is easily the last

I like the gritty style of all these netflix movies, but they can sometimes tend to get boring with dialogue and not enough action or the action seems badly choreographed.

Having said that, I love the coming together of all the stories and as bad/good as many of them are I’d watch all of them, including iron fist, again.

Haven’t watched Defenders yet but Daredevil s1 has yet to be topped imo.

Wrong. Daredevil season 2 showrunners are responsible for Defenders.

as well as different stunt coordinator.

it seems they either forgot or completly dropped the reference to elektra being an immortal weapon that they dropped during daredevil 2.

But the real idiot here is Matt. His obsession and worship to Elektra is completely unjustified.

Elektra is complete garbage in the show, she has no good on her, no personality, no appeal, no redeeming qualities… yet Matt compromises the team and its mission every time Elektra shows up because of his stupid worship. He fucking deserved to die!

Elektra ruined Daredevil S2 and now ruined Defenders.

Considering the Defenders were fighting a mystical ninja clan that has existed for milennia, there wasn’t anything interesting here other than some old boring dinosaur bones. I mean, even Daredevil S2 had a plot point where they had some kidnapped Asian people in cages were they were extracting them some weird fluids… I expected to see something equally interesting here, but nope, there was nothing, just a random enterprise building.

Also, the show action and scenes were lame and forgettable. Henchmen weren’t even wearing ninja, they didn’t fight with ninja weapons (other than some occassional tiny knife), ninja powers or resources like smoke bombs, poison, etc. They were generic goons as fuck, only thing we had was boxing brawls with nothing anything memorable or interesting whatsoever. Daredevil S1 and S2, as well as Luke Cage, had memorable fight sequences. This one had nothing impressive or interesting.

The Hand leaders themselves were some random old men that were very one note, didn’t have attractive personalities and didn’t show any wisdom or interesting perspective (Kingpin gave a couple memorable speeches in DD S1, for example). I would say even the Elektra 20045 movie Hand was more interesting; maybe they didn’t have personalities but at least they had peculiar powers. The ones of Defenders had NOTHING AT ALL!

The only interesting thing here is seeing the Defenders come together (and that happens in the first four episodes), other than that, the story is extremely bland and mediocre.

That PuniShane trailer…Our Lourde and Saviour hath returneth to bring righteous judgement, repent all ye sinners

Defenders was good. I was hooked from start to finish, but damn those 8 episodes flew by too fast.

I wish Danny was more likeable but everyone else is as good as ever.

I haven’t finished Iron Fist, and I don’t really care to until they make a season 2.

(Fagegg with his nonsense ranting is bordering on affinity-like levels of annoying right now and it’s the same line of thought on his previous post that got buried)

Elektra was never an Immortal Weapon in the first place, she was and always has been a ninja assassin though.
Frank Miller refused to have Marvel bring her back in any form as he [Miller] wanted her to have perma-death as resurrecting her would seem like a gimmick which, unfortunately, happened without his consent.

Elektra’s characterization in the show is pretty weak but maybe they had written her to be intentionally ambiguous if she was really friend or foe.

Luke sounding dumb as hell when [details=Spoiler] Stick told him he was gonna dispose the body. Like nigga do you really think we tryna report this!?

I really liked the character interaction in The Defenders, but the plot/hand weren’t worth the wait since DD season 1. Jessica and DD are more fun together than I expected.

great show but i wish they had more character interactions between the good guys and less of the boring hand mystic ninja bullcrap

You mean Elektra being the Black Sky? That still comes up in Defenders.

I’m lost on the whole hand resurrection technique. In defenders it made it seem like you needed to get that blood bath with dragon bone bits in it ala elektra’s resurrection based on what the fingers were saying whereas in iron fist Ward Meachum killed his dad and stuffed his body in a pond/swamp and he just resurrected on his own.

My thinking on that is they have to do the whole ritual the first time someone dies. After that they’re ninja highlanders. Meachum died already and the and brought him back years before his son “killed” him again. Nobu was “killed” in season 2 of daredevil and he got up walking around shortly after. Another member of the hand did the same thing after Elektra stabbed him multiple times.

Bakuto died in iron fist and came back. Alexandra says something about dying at least once. Clearly they had whatever it takes to be resurrected done to them but now theyre afraid to die due to running out of the substance?

It was about the time it was starting going that route + dragon from kunlun buried in NYC + a previous iron fist being in nyc sealing said dragon remains that this story started to be meh for me. I was expecting the hole to contain a portal back to kunlun based on Gao constantly saying something about going home.

I enjoyed the show, not sure why some are looking to nitpick so much.

Meachum wasn’t beheaded when Ward killed him. Danny and Ward had to cremate him to ensure he didn’t come back. There’s no coming back if your head comes off.

Right but in defenders at least 2 of the leaders of the hand have died and been resurrected but now they’re suddenly afraid of dying because they’re out of the substance? Did I miss something or is this a plothole?
