Did I say that? I’m just pointing out the flaw in that logic.
I find it ironic that almost all of the members that joined between 2003 and 2004 think that this game is the best. While those that sign up before ain’t acting quite as fanboyic.
For me, I respect the players and the skills that come to this game, but it isn’t my cup of tea. SSF2T, SFA2 and mainly SFEX series are my cup of tea.
With that said, the few fanboys that are complaining because a handful of people came up and said MvC2 sucks, you shouldn’t be talking. Wait until you’re in a topic where you are the one who likes the game, and the 99 other posters of the topic all say it sucks. Then you’ll have a valid reason to complain, so in summary, stop your whining.
This game sucks, period.
Any game with that revolves around infinites or semi-infinite or glitch is just plain lame. Oh well.
MvC2 is a fun game, not great not bad in the middle. Nothing I wanted to really learn indepth. Just my opinion
your face is a glitch.
people who hate on marvel = weak. probably used to having a turtle fest and poking in a slow paced game all day.
Ah, another shock post I see. It’s a shame when people dislike something and back it up with ignorant examples. Next time know something before you judge it.
exactly what i thought.
Same here. All the arcades I’ve had matches with people who play ask if you want to have a non-god tier match afterwards and you just agree and have one. People don’t force you to play god tier all day, once they SEE that you are a decent player on their level you can have any tier matches because they know you’re not asking to play low tier because you suck. You’re seem to say that people point a gun to your head an play god tiers.
My Rogue for instance plays WAAAAAY beter than my Magneto, even with the tier advantage I can always rack up more wins with Rogue than my Magz ever could. People can use characters beyond the tier restriction if you put the effort; thequestion is are you willing to?
Once again balance and fun are 2 different things for me. If MVC2 was balanced I feel it would never have been so enjoyable or competitive, it would have ended up has SVC: Lite.
But does this happen in Evo? No. People play god tiers there because they want to win, not hedge their bets on a gimmicky or “for fun” team.
The definition of how balanced a fighter is, in my opinion, is the balance it strikes between the characters/engine and the player’s skill. In a good fighter, it is far easier for a skilled player to overcome the slippery slope against “top tier” characters than in a bad fighter.
Let’s use an example here. Take #r. A good May or Zappa player can still do a lot of things to fuck over the Sols, Fausts, and Eddies, because there’s enough engine to #r to make up for the characters’ lacks. #r tiers are generally considered a lot closer together than other games as a result.
Okay, now let’s look at MvC2. With the possible exception of JWong, someone playing Amingo/CapCom/Tron is going to have a MUCH more difficult time winning against Team Scrub than Zappa does against Eddie. IMO.
With MvC2, you have the novelty factor, of course. Even after all these years people still are playing new characters, so when something new comes out people think it’s the hottest shit ever. (Remember the brief Dhalsim craze after those Japanese combo vids?) So yeah, someone playing Bonerine/Marrow/Jin might win the first few times from sheer surprise factor. But place those teams in the open with equal exposure as MSP or Scrub (this won’t happen simply because people can theory fighter MvC2 enough to know that it’s a lost cause) and you can bet people will learn ways to defeat whatever gimmick that team has.
I’m willing to bet that part of it is inexperience against Rogue. She is quite good, but not better than Mags IMO. Mags has been through a lot and can still fuck people up. If Rogue got that kind of dissective gameplay, I don’t think she’d be able to do the same.
Okay, this:
And this:
… leads me to believe that you’re not actually arguing that the game is balanced. I think we missed a train of thought somewhere. Arguing that MvC2 is fun? Don’t even bother. It’s fun. Arguing that MvC2 is balanced? I think that needs a very convincing rhetoric.
A good fighting game does not need to separate a god tier out from the rest of the cast for it to be considered playable. If the majority of the cast isn’t competitively playable, the game has balance issues. This is slightly mitigated by the fact that some characters have use as assists. If you want to convince me otherwise, show me how Charlie can be effective on point instead of AAA.
Going by that definition I made of a “good fighting game”, you can consider the majority of existent fighters out there as having balance issues. Everyone knows Ken/Chun/Yun dominates 3S, the Big Four dominates MvC2, and Sakura/Blanka/Sagat dominates CvS2. The game can still be fun despite this. It’s when you can’t get away from the dominant characters that the game crosses the line as “having balance issues” to “broken”. I consider 3S as having balance issues; Ken’s really too good, Genei Jin charges too fast. But there’s many other competitive characters in the game who can hang with them. CvS2 edges on the broken for me, mostly because you can’t seem to get away from Sak/Blanka/Sagat; the huge cast is about the only saving grace, insofar as there’s many possibilities for undiscovered shit (like my earlier example with MvC2) that can better their moves through RC. #r would be one of the most balanced – but I personally have no fun playing the game. Figures.
Anyways, you’re basically saying that if you remove the Big Four, MvC2 is balanced. Which is true, I guess. But you cannot remove the Big Four in real matches. It’s all fine and good and fun for fucking around, but in a tournament you’re not going to escape from them because they do dominate over everyone.
Ah well. I don’t like playing MvC2 but theory fightering it isn’t bad.
MvC2 is obviously a great game. Almost without exception, the only people who hate on MvC2 are people that don’t know how to play it. All the scrubs who say marvel sucks are just mad they aren’t good enough at games to handle the best one.
Any 2D fighting game fan that failed to learn this game, missed out on the best fighting game experience of the past 5 years.
I have dumped hundreds and hundreds of hours into A3, 3S, SF2, and countless other 2D fighting games, and at the end of the day MvC2 is the most playable and the most fun.
p.s. Japan is fucking weak for not embracing this game. You don’t play 3S, Guilty Gear, and CvS2 and not play marvel. Nasty indeed.
USA is weak for not playing Vampire Savior.
Could u blame them for not playing Marvel? I mean half of it is filled with characters they don’t give a shit about and really don’t know. In addition, those are the top tier characters! They can’t even use characters that they relate too when playing the game.
Imagine if there was a 50+ man fighting game where half was filled with characters you don’t give a shit about or don’t even know and they were all the top characters in the game. All of them were weird Japanese comic book characters u never saw or heard. Don’t tell me u wouldn’t want to play it either.
And im not saying that this is the ONLY reason why they don’t play it but just an ASSUMPTION of why they prolly don’t.
peace
Sav
it was b/c of the unlocking bullshit that the machines went through w/ characters and colors, supposedly… the japs found it too annoying/unattractive
kinda off topic… but i think japan played too much iron man in mvc2, why is IM so famous there anyway?
Japan thought IM was the best back then, because of the fact that he can kill whole teams with one hit. And he has setups to start his infinite from different positions.
That’s the mistake everyone always makes. You’re forgetting that this is a team game. Take out the big 4 you’ll get Strider/Doom, Rogue, IM, BH, Psy, Capcom, Dhalsim etc… all day. Not to ention the game wouldn’t be as enjoyable. You fail to realize that the BIG 4 is what makes the game fun because their additional abilities like quick 8-way ADing, fast flying, quick dashes, triple digit combos are what MVC2 fans seek. It’s like forcing a person who has flown a SR-71 Blackbird for a year to use a bicycle instead; people don’t want to settle for characters who don’t make a match exciting. You think that the advantages that the top tiers have is the sole reason why people play them but it’s not. People play them because the offer more freedom and mobility than say Ryu. How were they going to make him any fun if he can’t do anything special?
They couldn’t if the wanted Ryu to remain true to his fighting style, that means no AD, no tri-jumpiing etc… otherwise you wouldn’t be playing Ryu anymore so it was just fate that he ended up sucking.
EVO is full of the big four but so was CVS2 & 3S. There might’ve been a few 2nd tiers here or there but it was the same thing as MVC2.
I still don’t see how you can make such a broad assumption that if a game is unbalanced it sucks out all the competitiveness and makes it not a good fighting game; I already stated that MVC2 isn’t the best fighting game in terms of refined gameplay but I also said I could care less about high piority poking all day and doing 3 hit BnB combos, while dealing with Hadouken/DP psuedo-traps all day. If you play the top tiers and 2nd tiers you don’t get OWNED, but you do have to try harder which isn’t that much of a detriment.
Like Rairu I’ve played it all, with a little less time with 3S, but MVC2 has the “IT” factor no fighter has. Fast, frenzied, and free!!! :bgrin:
Can’t blame countries on their personal preferences. I don’t recall Japan calling us “fucking weak” for not embracing Virtua Fighter 4.
^^That is what started all of this!?
lol that seems like a dumb excuse for Japan to not like marvel… due to they dont know who magneto and etc. is. Magneto > Ryu Storm > Ken Sentinel > Sakura Cable > Dhalsim
“OMG RYU is getting owned by Hauzer… I quit!”
Japan doesn’t play the game because they don’t like it. Just like we dont’ play Virtua Fighter 4 cause we don’t like it. Stop ragging countries on their personal preferences.
It’s like saying, Japan is shit for not liking Apples. Or America is shit for not liking Oranges.
