I’ve never tried Dhalsim personally, so you just poke and build the meter with him? :wonder:
Anything thing that makes Dhalsim good is that you can cancel his Drills into anything you want.
OR’s Omega Strikes are really annoying and can shut some characters down pretty much on their own. They come out fast and have high priority.
Dhalsim is good in MvSF because characters are slower and less mobile in general. As Blackheart he is the most annoying matchup besides Wolvy because standing roundhouse shuts down basically every BH fierce and roundhouse move, leaving jumping forward kick as one of the few real options left.
His relative speed and priority are high in MvSF.
marg, do you know on any actual demonstrable differences between Cap/Agent and BH/Mephisto?
also what was the Cap/Agent trap, from back in the day I remember it as something like RH, call Assist, jump in fierce, dash in jab, repeat. The best way out is to take the assist hit then SJ away. Long time since I saw any double America shenanigans though!
Mephisto’s normals ignite the opponent when they hit, they do a little more damage too I think.
^isn’t that just aesthetic though? Is the damage difference proven?
Nope.
But I’ll use some MAME tools to calculate the damage.
I’ll be posting the results tomorrow.
Ops, I forgot to post the results, hehe.
So, yeah, their attacks do the same amount of damage.
Fuck. =/
So they really were just palette swaps all along. US Agent and Mephisto’s only purpose in the game is to be able to double-select a character.
actually US agent is a bit faster, and weaker. cap america outputs some more damage, but is slower with his normals. use s.lk s.mk xx dp+pp to see. about BH and mephisto i never used them but they dont seem to have too many differences.
Well it seems that there are literally no differences between BH/Mephisto other than aesthetic ones. I’m not doubting you, but I’d have to test the Agent/CapAm one, because 10 years on I’ve yet to see any conclsuive proof. I’ll have a go at the combo you suggest.
I can’t see the difference…
Maybe Mephisto and US Agent are there just for the sake of having two Captain Americas/Blackhearts on your team. Who knows?
I play this game, and I’m ok at it, but I have a question:
You guys say Omega Red is ranked 2.
Ok, I know he is GOOD, but doesn’t his tentacles and a lot of his air attacks get COMPLETELY shut down by Captain America’s/US Agent’s Jump HP? (That huge shield slash, that is really fast and has tons of priority)
Same with Blackheart/Mephisto… I know they’re pretty good, but they also get completely shut down IMO by CapAm’s Jump HP, right?
I heard many years ago that the only thing that Mephisto’s flame effect on his normals affects is hit stun…so that some combos that BH can do aren’t possible with Mephisto because they fall out.
However it’s completely unverified and should be taken with massive chunks of salt. Still, I was wondering if anyone has done any testing on this.
Not really, Omega Red still has the invincible Omega Strike which iirc can be canceled immediately/once it connects. OR’s own J.hp is pretty good as well.
BH/Meph’s j.hp pigs ang j.hk goblins are, for all intents and purposes, projectile/energy attacks. They aren’t that shut down by CapAgent iirc. As with MvC2, they just have to stay in the air most of the time and they’ll be fine. Air Judgment Day is a nasty option they have in this game.
and so the US Agent/Mephisto mysteries and urban myths continue to propgate, a decade on…
maybe it’s just something we’ll never get to the bottom of.
maybe uni/color purposes…though about the same moves, a different appearance.
More like lazy programmers knowing that palette swaps could be chucked in and people would be like “wow, Mephisto and USAgent are hidden characters?!”
They could at least have made a BIT of an effort like with Mech 'Gief and MVC1 Shadow Lady/Roll/RV/Lilith etc
Weren’t those their first real palette swaps though? I can’t think of any other “pure” palette swaps previous to MSHvSF. I suspect that they just really hadn’t thought this all through yet and so this was their mediocre first implementation. =\
I just got a green MSHvSF board (Japan) and Norimaro doesn’t unlock on a “SA” A board, dammit. Anyways, FYI. I’ll now try to get a Japanese A board. =\
I love the quadruple jump (you have to do it before every match, and Norimaro has to be your first character), but it’s not like he has a head stomp that he can use to take advantage of it. He’s a lot of fun but pretty bad.
