Marvel Studios | The Infinity Saga ends

Nah, doin’ Venom alone without some major establishment prior is dumb. He can in theory hold up on his own… but not without some serious establishment prior, else you’re either makin’ up a lot of bullshit or shoehorning the ever loving hell out of it. There’s no middle ground here.

Venom is able to have the growth he has had is due to his relationship with Spider-Man… You can’t just do a Venom movie out the damn blue without that established.

It’s like trying to do Logan without the 17 years of history Jackman built up for the character.

It’s fucking stupid.

Venom is literally a sentinient Spidey suit. They can’t be like “OMG COINCIDENCE LOL”

You just said the same exact thing I did. Venom’s relationship to Spidey is what made him Venom, but it doesn’t continue to solely define him as a character all these years later. He has that established history. Anyone who knows Spidey knows who Venom is. Hell, even his symbol itself is instantly iconic and recognizable.

Logan would still be a good movie with or without the history behind Jackman’s films. It very lightly draws from the previous movies, anyway. Having all that history behind it merely adds a nice seasoning on top. It’s not the defining factor that made it a good film.

The point is Logan exists because there were seven X-Films before it to get people invested in the character and world.

This Venom cheese doesn’t have that. The people that would go see a Venom movie haven’t read a comic in over 20 years… Most folks aren’t even aware that Venom has had hosts other than Peter Parker and Eddie Brock.

Tell a random dude that Mac Gargan or Flash Thompson used to be Venom, and look at all the confused stares you get.

“The high school bully became Venom, and he’s a good guy that hung with Star-Lord and Groot? Word?”

All I’m saying is Logan didn’t need all that prestige to be a good movie, nor did the movie’s narrative content ride off of the success of its prior films. A Venom movie could follow suit, in that sense.

Now, will it be a good movie? Who knows. Probably not, considering Sony’s involvement. But it could be. That’s good enough for me.

We already getting a godlike Spidey movie, so, anything surrounding that is pretty moot anyway. :coffee:

The whole reason Venom even has the spider powers to begin with is because the symbiote took them from Peter’s DNA upon bonding with him. So is that gonna happen in the movie or nah?

Yeah, Venom (the symbiote) was just a goo mass. It just loved Peter’s powers and kept 'em when they split.

Half the people who went to the movie would have never gone if they didn’t watch the Xmen films first.
Logan isn’t so much a Super Hero movie as its a tragedy loosely based from comic book properties.

Great for film making, normally bad for ticket sales. Logan manages to reel people in with there being 7 X-men films.

Many people are like “who the fuck is Venom”. No everyone follows Spidey’s rouge gallery as closely as we do

You wanna know the funny thing? When the first Raimi SM flick came out, I was all “who the fuck is Green Goblin?” as my only knowledge regarding his gallery was pretty much just Venom and Kingpin thanks to the animated series (or what little of it I had watched) and the Vs series for Venom himself. All I remember of the animated series was Venom and Kingpin, which is odd considering how many cameos were in that damned series looking back…

True.

How many people who don’t follow comics and wants to watch a film because it sounds like a good action flick is really going to know who Venom is?
Spider-man sure, everyone knows who Spider-man is. Venom, not so much.

There adults now who are too young to remember the Saturday Morning Fox cartoon of Spiderman. I work with adults that Pokemon Red and Blue was literately before their time.

“adults”

Shit needs to be in quotes. Them’s still children. The law may say they’re adults, but you aren’t really an adult 'til you’re like 25-30.

Na, we are just old.

Sony hates money. Amy Pascal (The woman who pushed for the Ghostbusters reboot) is hinting that Spidey will be gone from the MCU after the Homecoming sequel

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Glpcj-oQEN0

Why does that bitch still have a job after green lighting Ghostbusters?

Amy pascal the type of squigga to make a ff4 reboot crossover with the new spiderman just out of spite.

She the type that will take Spidey away from Marvel after Homecoming is a success, say that they were shit and she was the only reason that Homecoming was good.

She’s salty that her agenda pushing movie didn’t profit because no one wanted that shit. People in Hollywood never like to take Ls and thus never learn. If it weren’t for the PS4, Sony would have been gone from film a while ago.

So should we call the sequel Spider-Man: Graduation . . . .

Did I miss something? The article says that Amy Pascal is not with Sony anymore, and brokered the deal (along with Keven Feige) for MCU and Sony to collaborate to bring us Homecoming and the sequel in the first place before she exited. Sony MIGHT take Spider-Man back from the MCU after the Homecoming sequel to do their own thing from there on out. If the movies do well and make money for everyone, though, that would be stupid.
