New Mutants is not getting reviewed by US critics due to lack of isolated screenings or download links.
However , some screenings are going in foreign countries where COVID is somewhat less prevalent.

Damn was hoping this would be nicer it seems another Fox mutant story where they fail to reach it’s potential.

Yeah, they said it was quite mediocre. Perfectly watchable… but mediocre.

But to be true, it was noticable from the beginning. I mean, this Boone guy talked like he was reinventing horror cinema yet he seemed overenthusiastic of the “rubber wall” effect we saw in Nightmare on Elm Street like 40 years ago…

Also, can a superhero film be scary? You would have to go for new tricks. I would be really surprised if one or two of the New Mutants died in the film. But I’m sure it won’t happen.

Director is getting fuckin dragged on Twitter over his colorism casting choices. We knew it was fucked up but man the way he doesn’t give a fuck makes it even worse

As a black Brazilian, it must sting to have an important character like Berto whitewashed.

Cecilia Reyes too.

Any Taylor Joy seems to be the highlight of the film as Illyana.

Erasure of color has always been a thing. And it sucks.

The wildest part is I would accepted if he just thought the dude was a better actor than anyone trying out. But the director said more or less it was more believable for a light skinned dude to be rich…

Nigga you making a movie about supernatural and mutant power stfu

X-Men is one of the most diverse franchises in comics.
It is the 21st century. If you dont want to stay true to the ethnic background of the character then direct something else.

I mean him being black Brazilian hasn’t been retconned in the comics right?
I haven’t kept up with them in 20 years.

In the current Hickman X-Titles Sunspot is apart of the new mutants and he’s still an Uber rich black Brazilian.

He’s so one of the best things about the current new mutants run.

  • He cons Corsair out of a bottle a booze (bourbon iirc)

  • has a Shi’ar Empress fall in love with him

  • buys the Shi’ar mansion his friend and his wife live in since his friend told him his wife doesn’t want Sunspot living with them.

He’s x-Mens answer to the kaiba “screw the rules, I have money” meme

He also serves as the run’s narrator and breaks the fourth wall a lot but rarely in the Deadpool kinda way. It’s more of a he’s telling it in past tense and embellishing what happens to make himself look cool but realizing it sounds unbelievable he quickly tells the reader what actually happened

Sunspot was also in Hickman’s Avengers run, doing similar stuff where he uses money and leadeship to resolve issues since. Hickman or some folk over must be fans and see the strength in using him like this instead of just another punching dude.

Seeing him con Corsair a pirate out of booze was a highlight of that issue.

I still need to read Hickmans avengers run. I have all 4 omnibuses on comixology. I’ve just been reading other stuff or gaming so I haven’t had a chance to.

Are they doin trades for new mutants yet

Short answer: Yes but I don’t recommend it.

Long Answer: The reason why I don’t recommend it is due to all of Hickmans X-Titles interweave with each other. The Dawn of X trades as opposed to individual trades for whatever X title are the way to go.

You get a lot more for your dollar, it puts all the X-Titles in chronological order and it gives more context of what’s going on from title to title so the events that happen feel more important and impactful

Stuckmann review: C+

Yeah, this sounds like the Fox treatment for the franchise. It is stuff like this which justify people’s desire for the Disney/Marvel adaptions.

The folk in charge rarely got the core of the characters or concepts.
