Anyway the above is impossible for the same exact reason why the Jump Superstars series and D.O.N. Battle Stadium will never come out in the US. Different companies in the United States own the video game rights to all of these franchises.
Jump Superstars gets by, even in Japan because it is only based on manga variants and uses nothing from any of the various Jump anime. No voices, no ‘filler’ characters, nothing. Otherwise they would have to right a lot of checks, like what happened with D.O.N. Prolly would never fly in the United States where everyone is very sue happy. Sometimes I think that no one in Japan has ever been sued for anything.
Um, yeah possible in Japan and not possible in the US. Japan’s not really known for being MVC fans, would be pointless.
Enjoy mugen. :looney:
IMHO Marvel and DC need to stop fighting with each other for five seconds (they currently hate each other and DC refuses to do ANYTHING with Marvel until the Editor Joe Quesada resigns, I won’t bore you with all of the details, think Sony/Microsoft) so I can finally see a Marvel vs. DC game in my lifetime. They can re-release previous crappy comic book crossovers and make some extra cash (Cap/Batman and JLA/Avengers were some of the best ones). Superman vs. Thor, Captain America vs. Batman, Spider-Man vs. Nightwing maaang someone make this game before I croak. You can put ___ Capcom characters in it for all I care man get’er dooooone…
There was an SRK Radio interview with Rey Jimenez of Capcom USA. He said that he thinks that someone has the rights for a DC fighting game. Well, he didn’t seem 100% sure and I’m not sure what’s up with that or if even DC has seperate licences for video game franchises and exclusive contracts the way Marvel does.
Man, this is confusing. A whole lot of fat men in suits you have to go through to make some downright obvious cool stuff. I’m glad it’s not my job.
You know what the ideal situation would be from this news?
Capcom gets the Marvel license and both companies announced Marvel vs. Capcom 3 for a 2009/2010 release with online play.
The eventual success of SSF2T: HD Remix convinces Capcom that fans want HD sprites for the sequel. This means that there will be a reduction in the cast of characters, but fans will accept this to avoid seeing a 14-year old sprite of Morrigan in another fighting game.
On the Marvel side, the Fantastic Four finally get represented with the addition of The Thing and The Human Torch. Daredevil and Ghost Rider also join the cast.
On the Capcom side, Dante, Viewtiful Joe, Bionic Commando, and Vanessa Z. Schneider from P.N.03 join the fray.
What? Still no Firestar?! Man, I was hoping for the Spidey and his Amazing Friends reunion! You could have the theme music in there and everything!!!
Anyway, I am absolutely thrilled about this news. I really hope Capcom and Marvel get a deal done soon. I’m not all that thrilled with Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and I shudder to think what would happen if Ono got his wish to do a third installment, but you can’t help but say that Capcom and Marvel have been great for each other.
“Nothing to talk about here right now. We’re aware of it. As we’ve stated in the past, we have always maintained a good relationship and open communications with our friends at Marvel. Beyond that, there’s nothing to add.”
For Capcom I would go with Dante (he NEEDS to be in a fighter), Gene of God Hand (can do shoryukens), Super Joe (Commando was the first Capcom game I ever played), Ingrid (Sprite already done lol), and Kaede of Crimson Tears (Lol hot chick, iffy game).
For Marvel I would like to see Thor (no explanation necessary), Mr. Fantastic (The brains of Marvel) Adam Warlock (Um yeah SRK member 'nuff said), Dr. Strange (Shuma-Gorath enemy lol) and Spider-Woman (Has gotten a lot of spotlight over the years).
This would be dumb because its blatant fanboyism. Its the same reason people getting hyped about a DC Capcom collaboration irks me. Having rights to a new franchise doesn’t really indicate any kind of specific gameplay, although MvC3 would probably follow the gameplay previous mvc games have had. Tacking on MORE franchises would just make a bloated project that won’t necessarily adhere to any game mechanic standard. Marvel2 has stayed popular because of the gameplay, not because people are still thrilled to be playing as their favorite marvel characters.
If they make the game and if they do make it they make it sprite based and if they do make it sprite based they’ll put Dante in it and if they do put Dante in it they’d be more enthralled to create a 2D sidescrolling Devil May Cry game.
While anything can happen, I sort of liked the thought of Mvc2 as the last marvel game. I like that it is the final marvel game that I will play forever.
This is a case of easy money. Capcom gets dem rights back and does work with it. It’s over. We want the VS Compilations, Marvel 2 online, and 3. So if they have to pay a little more for the rights now, they’ll make it back hand over fist anyway.
My 5
Marvel- Havok, Blade, Black Cat, Hawkeye, Emma Frost
Capcom- Dante, Zero (MMX Version), Joe/Sylvia, Gallon, Samanosuke/Jubei
Nope, it was an April Fools joke from 2003 (I think), put together by Prof. Moriarty @ MMCafe and some SRK people as well, although I can’t remember exactly who offhand. But yeah, it was a big project.
And I reiterate that the first thing I’d like Capcom to do IF they can get some type of license again is put out a Marvel Collection. X-Men: CotA, MSH, XvsSF, MSHvs.SF, and MvC1. I know I could do it through emulation, but there’s something to be said for finally being able to play arcade-perfect, full-animation versions of CotA and MSH on a proper system, with dip-switch options (if the other two Capcom collections are any indication).
And yeah, Cyberbots would be a tremendous bonus. DO IT, Capcom.
I certainly wouldn’t complain about an MvC3, but what I would want most out of this is MvC2 for PSN and XBLA. I can’t begin to describe how happy that would make me.
On the one hand, Marvel had zero say in what Capcom did with the license way back when. While it’s nice that Sven says they kept on good terms with their friends at Marvel, I’m sure Marvel would want more creative control over their property this time. I had heard that Marvel wasn’t particularly pleased with some of the games Capcom made with their characters, their popularity notwithstanding, though that could just be TAS pulling stuff out of his ass again.
I’m not so certain we’d get an MvC3 out of it. Certainly not as a 2D sequel to MvC2. There’s no way Marvel would let Capcom use 15 year old sprites (if Capcom got back the license tomorrow, we wouldn’t see a game until late 2009 for the earliest, and the oldest sprites in MvC2 date back to late 1994 or early 1995) in a new game, not just because they’re ancient and 2D, but because almost all of the characters look different now. Marvel, quite rightly, would want players to get interested in their properties as they appear currently; Ironman’s Modular Armor and Cyclops’ 1990 costume aren’t going to cut it. Not to mention the roster badly needs updating.
On the other hand, Marvel probably realises by now that Capcom did a damn good job with their characters. So maybe they’d give more leeway to Capcom seeing that they did so well with their properties the last time. Regardless, I think it’s impossible that we would see a 2D MvC3 from Capcom. IF anything comes out of this, the first game, assuming it’s a fighting game at all, would be something like Marvel Superheroes 2: Annihilation. Which wouldn’t be bad, actually, since MSH is vastly underrated, one of Capcom’s top 5 best fighters, and could use a sequel in it without Capcom characters polluting it.
