Tony Vic and Bob got stuck in the past so the all issue was old-school like in art colors and design that was pretty sweet and see the Sentry freaking out cause he doesnt know whats going on was cool
The artwork by Caselli is really good. The story by Slott however isn’t quite there. It features a lot of Marvel’s less used characters plus it has that whole government shadow ops team angle going on. If you want to read a comic like that read Thunderbolts starting from 110. It’s a million times better.
Yes you should pick it up. They have some pretty good storylines and good cast of characters. The recent issue had a funny dialog between Antman and Taskmaster.
I mean what comic do you know of has a recruit that gets killed in the first issue, gets cloned multiple times, you have a mysterious character called Mutant Zero who nobody know who it is, and you have all these shady things going on.
Initiative seems to always be involved in everything that going on in the 616 world. Which is part of the appeal plus my boy taskmaster showed up which was a plus.
Not only that, but the character are pretty interesting, and seems like people can get killed randomly at anytime. It reminds me of the start of the new xmen book. The cloning thing doesn’t bother me that much since the clones are actually doing something interesting.
Yeah, there are similarities between the 50 State Initiative premise and the Everyman Program. I think what makes The Order stand out is how Fraction tells the story. The issues I read were just different from the typical Marvel or DC book… They just kind of have that character-driven, indie sensibility. And I also liked how Fraction could make me care about the characters after just a few lines of dialogue in the span of several pages. That’s something hard to accomplish with brand new characters so I appreciate that.
“TB: I keep a running list of everything we?ve established anywhere, so I can tell you that right this second, we?ve established the circumstances for 20 States. Doesn?t mean there isn?t activity in the other 30?simply means that we haven?t seen or mentioned that activity anywhere. I can tell you, for example, that Skyhawk is the only hero we know who?s actively patrolling Washington State, that the Action Pack cover Kentucky and Force Works is in Utah, that the Georgia team isn?t ready to get up-and-running just yet, and that Alaska is about to receive its first dedicated hero. Most of these new teams are still relatively small. In fact, we?ll be seeing one or two more in Avengers: The Initiative as it wraps up its first year in #12.”
I posted a link to the full interview on the last page of this thread lol.
The book is pretty good but plot and Marvel universe heavy. If you know a little about classic Marvel stuff you will get the occassional easter egg and continuity nods. The new and old characters are introduced really fast and you really don’t spend a lot of time getting to know every character, although early on some issues focused on one character in particular. But with this current arc (and the fact that a new writer has joined on the book as co-writer) it might not do that anymore. But there is a core of characters and sub plots that the book follows but there is no set main character or group, so anything can happen at times.
But as others have said, it pretty much has a lot of military and conspiracy elements to it, but it isn’t in the same style as the Thunderbolts or practically any other Marvel book. It walks a fine line of trying to be a jack of all trades and succeeds.
There is still Brother Voodoo. He ain’t the greatest but he is a step above most other magic folk not named Strange or Man-Thing.
