Marvel Comics Thread

I get it too, anyway I fixed that. thanks for welcomin’ me back, been very busy now

i will tomorrow, usually stop the shop on mondays. is it good?

also they still have a ton of the DVD roms, but i got a really good deal on Essentials so i think i’ll just stick with those.

ok just read last annihilation, and wow first panel “SHORYUKEN!”

it looked almost identical to Ken’s in 3S lol

Yeah Annihilation Conquest has been alright so far. Not as good as Annihilation yet, but it’s not over yet. But like others have said, LOL at High Evolutionary saying Adam Warlock was “quite a Marvel” in issue 2. Shoryuken makes up for it somewhat.

agreed, not bad nothing special though, you following nova though? oh man that’s some really good stuff!

Yeah I read Nova. It’s cool but I feel it’s a bit too connected to mega events. It went from Annihilation aftermath, to Civil War and straight to Annihilation Conquest. I think Nova needs to slow down and have a story apart from all of these events. The story with the talking Russian cosmonaut dog and Abyss was cool (Not the MVC2 Abyss, and this is Marvel’s third incarnation of an Abyss character ha ha! And no the Capcom Abyss is completely made up and not in any Marvel comics just in case anyone doesn’t know that… I was secretly hoping that this Abyss would be kind of sort of like a nod to the Capcom one but no avail… :looney:) but it ended with Robo Gamora after Nova again, another Annihilation Conquest crossover! Nova’s gotta have an adventure on another planet for a minute. Maybe after AC. I just hope they don’t try to cram Nova into Secret Invasion or something…

I’m a little over halfway through Ultimates 2…now this is the Mark Millar I love. I think I’m liking this one better than the original so far. Maybe I should read more millar…was Enemy of the State any good Sano? (sano’s response: it was wolverine. it must be good)

LOL I didn’t like Enemy of the State. I must of ranted about it in an earlier post somewhere. The short version, it went too long and Larsen kind of told the same exact story a few years back, Wolverine going rogue and taking on the Marvel Universe. I swear Guggenheim is the only person who ever read Wolverine’s comic before taking on the title.

Enemy Of the State had nice art and seeing Wolvie ride a Sentinel like a flying dragon was a trip, but I don’t think the story needed to last 12 issues, especially when everyone knows when it’s all over everyone will just forgive Wolvie and pretend like it never happened… At the very least Secret Invasion may point to it as the time period where Elektra was captured, but we’ll see.

i thought you liked him fighting villains though instead of the rucka-inspired no costume no badguys

Yeah but he was fighting heroes throughout most of it.

I dunno, you may enjoy it as a trade. But month after month of the same story that involved my least favorite thing in comics - people dying and coming back to life - and this all happened in the same exact story thanks to Hydra magic, that was a deal breaker for me. :wasted:

I think Enemy of the State is one of the better Wolverine runs. It’s not as mind-blowing as The Ultimates but it’s a really good read. The story isn’t too pretentious and it doesn’t try to be anything more than what it purports itself to be: an an-all out slugfest between Logan and the Marvel U. Toss in the JRjr art (complete hotness) and the fast pacing, and you got yourself a memorable Wolverine story. Also, Millar’s 13th issue (his last issue was a one-shot standalone) is probably one of the best single Wolverine stories I can think of.

i hear abyss i think soul caliber… and i don’t even play the game.

I see what you mean but I’m honestly liking how it’s going, though him being part of the Skrull Invasion would be a bit much. I can see it now though, Nova, Drax, Gamora, all of Star Fire’s group, all of Ronin’s group, new Quasar, Warlock, etc etc all gathering up for one last fight, winning, phalanx runs off with threats of return. Nova gets distress call from Earth minutes after and goes to help against the Skrulls

That was one thing i noticed too. yeah he left the new warriors but what is going to happen after AC? Annihilation Invasion! you heard it hear!!! Lets be honest he will have a tiein with the secret invasion that will come in last minute like it did for civil war

i may pick up the black panther version of course

I haven’t picked up my books in 3 weeks but FOR THE LOVE OF GOD THAT NEEDS TO BE MY AV.

god i haven’t got a chance to hitup the comic shop for hulk #1 yet, FUCK! i need my fix.

Err, in the Larsen story he fought a few heros for just a couple pages.

The only reason he was “fighting”(read: awkwardly punching or throwing heros from the Black Cat to the FF ALL AT ONCE) was because an alien took over his body and was trying to get him to her homeworld to save it from something blah blah blah.
It was hideously drawn by Jeff Matsuda and colored by (I swear) some kid in the back of a K-Mart with half a box of crayons.

At least in Enemy of the State the fighting of heros was organized and had a purpose. The killing also had a purpose which I thought was pretty ingenious.
Enemy of the State had long lasting ramifications.
Eric Larsens story accomplished exactly nothing, and is all but forgotten. (Well except by you and me, it seems:rofl:)

I mean, hey, to each their own but to throw out the “Larsen did it first” reason is kinda weak, man. :arazz:

LOL see by that logic every single Wolverine comic ever written has been forgotten. You don’t see any references to anything Larry Hama did, or Rucka, nothing. Not a single thing in Wolverine’s comic is ever referenced. People come in, do what they want, and leave. There’s no difference between reading Wolverine and reading all of his multiple limited series like Snikt and so on. Enemy of the State only has ramifications because it was part of Avengers Disassembled. Poor Rucka. He should of attended the House of M summit so Native could of been present.

Yeah he fought heroes for a few pages, to me that’s the point. It’s easier for me to accept people forgiving Wolverine like they have to wind up doing anyways then have a 12 issue story arc and then let Wolverine join up with the Avengers. Oh Hydra controlled you, don’t worry about it it’s gravy.

And LOL to Millar’s continuity skills. In one issue he had Wolverine talk about the Avengers, and then he said “No, not the New Avengers, the original Avengers.” Um, WHAT? New Avengers was only formed in a few days and he was a member after his incident with Hydra. In X-Men they said he was running with Hydra for MONTHS. But that’s cool, I suggested to Marvel that maybe he just meant Young Avengers and it would all fit, I still haven’t gotten my No-Prize! :looney:

I do really like Ultimates and Civil War (despite the ending) though, and his MK Spider-Man wasn’t too bad. No real Millar hate from me.

I dunno, to me the Larsen story was fun, had a potential alien chick, and my homeboy freaking Solo was in it, too bad he got owned lol but it was nice to see him again. Enemy of the State was dragged out for me, I don’t think the story needed an entire year. I like Jeff Matsuda (early Kaboom was great) so that really wasn’t a problem for me. Just my opinion.

It’s cool I guess, I’m often accused of liking everything but that’s really because I “try” not to openly hate on things unless I’m directly asked because I’m never too fond of forums where mods come down and say “THIS SUCKS TEH BLLZ.” This forum should be more about what members think and so on IMHO. Some people take mod’s opinions more seriously than they should. I’ve often seen people’s feelings hurt because someone doesn’t like a comic they do, not sure I understand why but still… So it’s alright if I catch heat for not liking something once in a blue, it’s usually the exact opposite.

If it makes any difference I was doing some reference on S.H.I.E.L.D. and I reread Enemy of the State, though I didn’t really come off learning anything at all about S.H.I.E.L.D., which isn’t a slam really it’s just what it is. Point is I did read it a second time so it wasn’t un-rereadable, see Loeb’s Wolverine oooh… PS I love my '80s Marvel Universe comics, S.H.I.E.L.D. section was great!

I loved “Snikt”.

I meant more that the EotS arc gave way to the New Avengers going after Echo because the Hand was going to do the same thing to her they did to the others, and also with Northstar, which was again touched upon in Carey’s X-Men. Also it was brought up in Loners too.

Poor Larsen, first his Spider-Man run is ‘taken away’ and his Wolverine issues are null and void.

I liked Jeff Matsuda too, but the longer that story went on the worse and worse the art became. I think they were down to no backgrounds, flat coloring (outside the lines!) by the last issue. Ugh. :wasted:

Ahh, old Wolverine…the Hand…Shiva…Cyber…Losing his adamantium
…losing his nose…Marrying Viper…Maybe some things are better left forgotten?

You keep mentioning this “Loeb” character but I can’t seem to recall him ever writing Wolverine…

I loved Snikt too.

I liked Wolverine’s adamantium loss and I thought he should of at least boned Viper before it was taken away, but ohs well. :looney:

You don’t remember Loeb writing Wolverine? Either you’re still in denial or another victim of Joephisto.
