Fear Itself and Secret Invasion are examples

House of m was meh to me but it setup alot.

Avengers disassembled was much more enjoyable imo.

I’ve love ever mega story they have done besides fear itself. Couldn’t bring myself to care about it. And honestly it seems like that story had a bigger impact on the xmen than it did anyone else.

SI was really good IMO, it just all fell together right. Also it gave me a much bigger respect for the skrulls and super skrull.

Zeph I think we had the House of M conversation before and it’s probably just an agree to disagree thing.

I thought Fear Itself was worse than House of M, I’ll give you that much.

You really should check out Avengers The Children’s Crusade because Heinberg does address (fixes) certain things that Bendis was doing at that time that added to issues people had with HoM. Like there being no Chaos Magic and Scarlet Witch just erasing Mutants all on her lonesome because she was a villain for a day or whatever. I honestly think it’s a much better read than HoM and it touches on all of the things you need to know prior to jumping into AvX.

Just my opinion of course.

So scarlet witches mutant power is magic officially right?

I just read Fear Itself last week. (Found all the issues in a 50-cent bin.) I didn’t like it as much as I wanted to, considering it was Fraction and Immonen. I still think Marvel’s secret crisis crossover war events are a lot better than DC’s, with the exception of Final Crisis.

I’m gonna check out The Children’s Crusade when I can find it for cheap because I really enjoyed the original Young Avengers story. But I don’t like it whenever writers think they have to “fix” things that another writer did. Bendis’ worst comic ever was that New Avengers story where he tried to explain Xorn and Magneto after Chuck Austen did some stuff in the X-Men books, and that was so totally pointless. Still, he probably started off with the noble intention of fixing a crappy story [which Austen probably wrote in the first place to fix a crappy story that Claremont wrote in New Excalibur (which Claremont wrote in the first place to fix an amazing story in New X-Men)]. Do you see how incestuous that is?

Likewise, I don’t care if Chaos Magic is real or not… It’s an imaginary story. I don’t care about the intricate background, character profiles, etc. prior to reading AvX… It’s a comic about two superteams punching each other in the face. Do people even care if the Phoenix is coming back or not? Does it matter WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON? No. The comic is called “Avengers Vs. X-Men.” Why would this comic need a detailed explanation? Are comic book readers mentally retarded or something?

I’m sipping my Haterade right now.

Lol AvX doesn’t need an intro. Marvel in my eyes crafts almost every story as if it’s someone’s first comic as much as you actually can with a 40 plus year back story.

But this isn’t my first trip to the rodeo or yours either. We could start reading at issue 5 if we wanted to with no problems.

Like Schism, ATCC is an enjoyable read that catches you up to speed with things that are going on, but to a lot of us this isn’t necessary. However to someone like Blaz, if he wants or not these are good tales that address a huge chunk of his questions.

I still think that finding answers in anything you read is better than having anyone describe it to you on the net. Or looking up Wikipedia and stuff like that.

As for you Zeph, you know I love you like a brother but I can’t talk about House of M anymore maaang! I just want you to read something newish we can discuss!

Fixes well, when they are good it’s fine and when they are bad they are not. I guess most of the time they are bad, but not in ATCC’s case. Bendis dumped on Scarlet Witch a scootch too much for my tastes making her a Magic Mutant eraser. Don’t say her fake magic is fake! You made my Vision and Scarlet Witch comics cry.

You do have to wonder why they felt the need to turn Wanda into such a punk, and so flimsily.

I’m actually enjoying AvX, but how good it is in the end will depend on how much story they’re willing to commit, and whether or not they’re willing to have anything that matters happen. I just don’t want to see a cop-out, like Galactus shows up and they have to team up to fight him and nobody wins. The Phoenix macguffin is lame, but it does pose a nice conflict - now I want to see somebody win and somebody lose.

Final Crisis was such a cluster fuck. I still can’t comprehend what went on.

I thought the main House of M was pretty good. I read all the tie ins but they were very very boring. But I suppose they were there to give you a sense of what each characters “perfect” lives would be and how Wanda messing with their heads would cause them so much anger towards her.

I do think it should be read to fully understand why things are headed in the direction they are with AvX. Of course it’s not a necessity but again you gain a greater sense of everything when you’ve read it. Avengers Disassembled/House of M and Second Coming imo should be read.

Fear Itself…caca. I seriously did not care for it. I do intend to buy the trade however just to add it to my Marvel event trades.

Missed this question before. Chaos Magic was re-established as being real before ATCC, ATCC just had a refresher on the subject IIRC.

I agree to a certain extent, but this definitely is not true in all circumstances. Having someone give you a summary of events or just looking it up on Wikipedia is far superior to the actual experience of wasting your time reading a crap comic.

Take Xorn for example again. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xorn
It takes, what, five or ten minutes to read his Wiki page? Would you rather waste ten minutes of your life reading Xorn’s Wiki, or waste three hours, a lot of money, and your soul reading a bunch of crap Chuck Austen comics and The Collective arc in New Avengers? It’s no choice at all, my man. Plus, the Wiki even has nuggets of the behind the scenes politics that went behind the reasoning for Marvel’s editorial mandates - a story far more interesting than anything that could ever fart out of Chuck Austen’s pen.

Fact is, Wikipedia exists to save us from having to slog through mountain piles of stupid comics.

I don’t read any new stuff. I’m behind on the times. I told you I just got around to reading Fear Itself for the first time last week. Ever since they went to $3.99 a pop (or $2.99 for 18 pages and 17 ads) I lost my excitement over serials. They broke me, bub. They broke me.

The only new comic I bought was last week’s issue of Supreme, which I’m guessing no one here gives a damn about because it doesn’t have Wolverine using his claws to fight Scarlet Witch’s magic (which doesn’t exist).

I also buy whatever Brubaker/Philips joint comes out on the racks… But again, the lack of Wolverine, Spider-Man, Batman, Deadpool, etc.

Read the Wikipedia entry, then.

Joss Whedon answers who would win in a fight, Black Widow or Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Fun!

Carnage USA kinda had an unsatisfying conclusion. I don’t think it could have ended any other way but it just felt meh

Joss Whedon would have made an amazing Wizard writer.

So far just read Fantastic Four and New Avengers.

Fantastic Four as usual was like DAMN! Hickman got tired of beasting at Marvel’s present so he decided to beast Marvel’s future!

In New Avengers Bendis did his whole talking head thing for the Avengers vs. X-Men tie-in ordeal. C’mon dude get with the prog! Do I have to send you some Dragon Ball Z DVDs man! :annoy: Lol I liked the Spider-Man and Wolverine conversation though.

EDIT: Caught up. Wolverine was pretty cool. I found the entire Carnage USA series to be really average except for the artwork which was my main reason for reading it.

I enjoyed Childrens Crusade except the last one : / …As for Wanda iirc Strange stated it was chaos magic but her new powers that dealt with House of M saga is something to do with the life force energy, Its in the CC series.

I highly recommend Scarlet Spider, I was enjoying this series before cemented it as the best new Marvel series since Journey into Mystery hit the stage last year.

Bah, to all this Children Crusade talk, that story let me down like a hot stacked stripper suddenly revealing toward the end of a lap dance that she had a small Johnson tucked in the g string.

Kaine’s no Ben Reilly, but I’m planning to stick with it. They just don’t ridicule Texas nearly as much as Texas deserves to be ridiculed.

People still don’t get what happened in Final Crisis? That book made sense to me by the 2nd time I read it. Heck anything Morrison writes makes sense on a re-read…and it becomes more enjoyable ^_^.

Anyways, Avenging Spiderman was kickass this week, great humor and Spidey talking down Punisher was terrific.

The new comic book for the Avengers cartoon was good too. Panther was amazing in it to boot-
(To Ironman): “Then it is settled. You are disliked in every country.”

Seriously, Hickman? Fantastic Four was great. I really love that revelation just like the Franklin revelation shown in the previous issue of FF. It’s nice to have a comic where things matter and characters are developing.

Winter Soldier was also a good read. Really enjoying Brubaker on a solo Bucky book. New Avengers, the first AvX tie-in, seems to operate in between events shown in the main title as usual of Bendis. Not a fan of this style of “tie-ins” although I enjoyed Luke and Jessica’s talk.

And yeah, Avenging Spider-Man? Great stuff. I’m happy to have a comic of that quality follow up issue 5 with Spidey and Cap nerding it up. Can’t wait to read the rest of The Omega Effect. Luckily the rest of the series should be coming out weekly.

Gambit gets a new ongoing series.
