Marvel Comics Thread

Daredevil was fantastic this week, Mole Man going all fat-fu acrobatic was funny and awesome XD

Avenging Spiderman was OK, but the internet blew the Liberty Bonds thing out of proportion.

FF 16 was amazing, but DAMNIT VALERIA
You can love Doom all you want, HE’LL BACKSTAB YOU WHEN HE GETS THE CHANCE.
Still the final pages was just friggin’ mind blowing.
DOOM!
Actually that’s Black Spider, he appeared in a previous episode of Young Justice-

…What surprised me was that one of their teleporters is a friggin’ Police Box XD

Funny you mentioned that. In the first episode of Ultimate Spider-Man Peter repeated the same line from Teen Wolf about Scott and Boof running away when they were kids but they just kept going around the block. Of course it was Pete and MJ instead.

So far Spectacular Spider-Man is better than Ultimate Spider-Man IMHO but the first few eps were alright. I’ll keep watching.

I liked Ultimate Spiderman, it’s like a more kid friendly version of Batman BatB~
…and Sano you did watch Avengers’ Season 2 premiere right? Doom was a boss in it \m/

Oh yeah I saw that episode really early during New York Comic Con last year. I liked how they used the Fantastic Four and Doom.

so I went to 2 Avengers vs X-Men launch parties lol. I got to meet Ed Brubaker the guy is relaxed and down to earth. I wanted to get the Avengers vs X-Men fitted so bad but they didn’t have my size. My friend ended up getting one.

Nice! I was busy last night with the new SFxT DLC colors and costumes, making Poison look like Mystique and stuff. No launch parties for me lol!

Read the first issue of Avengers vs. X-Men just now though. Off to a great start!

Thanks, Sano. Sometimes I forget how nerdy we truly are.

I let my friend borrow SFxT for Gundam Extreme VS. Avengers vs X-Men #1 was good but I shouldn’t have looked at the previews beforehand >_>

Shout out to this week’s ASM too. Spidey mixing it up with real world politicians word! Maybe if he actually attended congress and punched people in the face like he did in this issue the economy wouldn’t be so bad. Nah.

man i just finished reading issue 00 and 01 for AvX and jesus christ what a godliek start for a comic. i dont even read comics liek that but im hyped as hell for this one. got a few questions tho.

  1. why is wolv and beast not with the xmen?
  2. who is hope summers? relative to cyclops?
    3.wheres prof x?
  3. didt magneto hate the xmen?
    5.wasnt deadpool in the avengers?
  4. wheres the green hulk? or why is he red now?

Excuse me for greentexting but

>5
>Deadpool
>He’s a merc
(Though I haven’t been paying attention to most Marvel comics so idk)

Also I know there really isn’t a sort of continuity between concurrent events but Deadpool should be dead shortly

  1. Wolverine and Beast are with the X-Men, it’s just that the team is split into two factions. One side is with Cyclops in Utopia, another side is with Wolverine at the school. Long story short, those with Cyke and those with Wolverine have different views on how the last remaining 200 Mutants should go about their business. Read Schism.

  2. Hope is a Mutant that is destined to be the Messiah that will save the Mutant race from extinction. Born in our time but raised in the future. Currently it’s unknown if she is blood related to Cyclops. Cable raised Hope in the future (that’s why her last name is Summers) and Cable is Cyclops’ son so Cyke is kind of Hope’s adopted grandfather lol! Hope may be the reincarnation of Jean Grey but we don’t know for certain.

  3. Haven’t seen Prof. X in a while but he’s around, down with Cyclops. Cyclops leads the X-Men now (well, those that didn’t side with Wolverine).

  4. Most of the time Magneto and the X-Men had opposing views. All of the movies and cartoons shed light on this relationship so hate may be a strong word for their dynamic. Anyway he’s with Cyclops because there’s only 200 Mutants left and they all have to stick together. He also gave Cyclops his props for being an overall bad ass and being a BETTER RULER than Mags and Prof X. CYCLOPS! FUCK YEEEEEAH!!!

  5. No. Deadpool was down with Iron Man during Civil War but that’s about it.

  6. Green Hulk’s around but not with the Avengers. Red Hulk is Thunderbolt Ross, the crazy general dude from the Hulk movies.

Wow, sometimes I forget how different the current 616 Marvel universe is compared to the “classic” universe we often see in movies.

Avengers vs X-Men had a good start with issue 1, but I was hoping it would be a bit longer. Maybe I was just enjoying it and didn’t want it to end where it did.

Amazing Spider-Man was amazing (sorry, sorry). I was freaking out a bit when they showed Spidey punching a politician, but it made perfect sense afterward. Sinister Six vs The Avengers was a great battle. Can’t wait to see how Spidey turns this around.

Journey into Mystery should have been a Eisner nominee. just saying

wow thanks alot for the replay sano. lot of good info to keep me updated :D. so why is there 200 mutants left? what happened to the others? anyone major died? besides jean grey of course lol

Wanda jacked all but a few mutants for their powers. That’s one of several reasons everybody’s so salty at her.

Wanda said “No More Mutants,” and her magical powers reduced the Mutant population to 200 Mutants, basically removing powers from a lot of Mutants. Do not read House of M, the story where this happened. It sucks IMHO. This is REALLY all you need to know.

Behind the scenes this happened because Marvel felt there were way too many Mutants running around. To the point where any character could show up in any book and just say they were a Mutant leaving writers to not bother with origin stories, IE how they got their powers and so on.

There was an entire island of Mutants on Genosha, and that island got blown the hell up killing a lot of Mutants. Later on Scarlet Witch did her thing.

Marvel wanted to bring it back to the 60s - 80s when there weren’t that many Mutants. In the 90s-00s there were millions. MILLIONS…

So yeah they’ve been playing the endangered species card for a while now.

Another reason behind all of this was it wasn’t long ago that the entire Marvel Universe was really focused on the X-Men comics. In the 60s it was Fantastic Four, not sure about the 70s but 80s and 90s were really all about the X-Men. Major crossovers like Inferno and Onslaught flowed out of the X books. Marvel wanted to stop this and make the Avengers comics the focus of the Universe. Just like Justice League is the focus of the DC Universe. Adding Spider-Man and Wolverine to the Avengers was another way to accomplish that. Along with having less Mutants and stuff.

Oh and if you want to read a good story that addresses Scarlet Witch’s Mutant reducing, read Avengers The Children’s Crusade. Great artwork and it serves as a nice prequel to Avengers vs. X-Men too. Hell it might even prove to be better than Avengers vs. X-Men when all is said and done. Heinberg write more comics please…

Major deaths? Nightcrawler died trying to protect Hope. There’s a Nightcrawler from another dimension running around though but the regular Nightcrawler is still dead. There have been other deaths, but most of them have come back in some shape / size / form. Except for Jean (unless Jean is Hope of course).

thanks again for the info. now i wont feel lost when i read AvX. cant wait to see the fights.

House of M isn’t any worse than any of the other typical Marvel comics that people here seem to like. I actually think it’s much better than average. It’s a superhero story that relies more on the fun and sheer spectacle of the genre, rather than a superhero story that takes itself so seriously that it amounts to nothing more than continuity pornography.

Out of all the event/crossover comics of the past decade, you could do a helluva whole lot worse than House of M.
