Hickman said he is leaving Ultimates for an offer he can’t refuse. Bendis will still be on NA but is leaving adjectiveless Avengers. Since Hickman is one of the writers mentioned on AvX have a feeling he will take over Avengers once Bendis leaves. And gage is doing a good job with Legacy, so hope he keeps it. Also opinion on the revelation from Academy?
The other problem I had with it, and again this is still me personally the dynamic between Spider-Man and Wolverine felt really off compared to all of their other interactions and even how the relate to each other on Avengers.
Aaron’s origin story for Spider-Man was a little off too, seemingly borrowing more from the movies with Spidey’s bad wrestling match costume. Arguably it almost had to be something done on purpose more for fans of the movie Spidey and less for actual comic book Spidey fans.
I love Aaron’s Wolverine. His Spider-Man, not really. But hey, I don’t like Waid or Van Lente’s Spider-Man either. I don’t think Whedon nailed Wolverine at first in Astonishing either, he sort of grew into it. Really fast to his credit.
This is really a personal thing. After you read characters long enough you sort of have a way you envision them talking and sounding. Even though every writer writes every character differently you need a little something to latch on to.
Both Bendis and Hickman write a great Spider-Man. Pretty much right from the start on their team books.
And yeah I know there are other Avengers. These are kind of the only two Avengers characters I know of Aaron writing extensively. Off memory anyway.
Wolverine and the X-Men dances around so much insanity it’s really hard to get a beat on how Aaron writes anybody lol but it’s SO INSANE who cares. An Avengers book like that I would like but it might not work for the core title like I don’t think this treatment would be right for Uncanny.
Way better than the actual Wolverine and the X-Men cartoon though but I’m sure Bamfs and Krakoa junior would make little kids jump out the window.
FF- Great read.
ASM- Slott/Yost both did a great job of showing off the Johnny-Peter bromance.
UltXM- Loving how Spencer is setting up this book.
Ultimates- Children vs the People with some good old fashion Hulk smashing.
Venom 13.4- LOVED the ending. Yeah.
That is it this week. Next week, CC, let the great times begin.
Excited for Children’s Crusade’s conclusion this week! It’s about time.
I loved Spider-Man and Johnny Storm interacting. Can’t wait for the next issue of AMS. FF ending makes sense - it was a product of Hickman and with his departure, should end. I doubt very many writers would want to tackle two books at the same time and make both relevant; especially for Fantastic Four.
Pretty sure Bendis is done done with Avengers. No New Avengers, no Avengers Assemble, no Adjectiveless Avengers. It’s time for some new blood in the Avengers line. The only outstanding project Bendis will have after his run concludes is his Ultron War special with Bryan Hitch. By the way, am I the only person who thinks Bendis’s Dark Avengers v2 story is going by REALLY fast? This temporary “alliance” with HAMMER, The Hand, AIM, and Hydra will be over before we know it. Not quite sure what will happen to Osborn’s new powers after all of this either. Will Osborn ever be the Green Goblin again? I remember Axel disregarding a question about that, saying Osborn is still “in transition.”
As much as I like Uncanny X-Force I can’t say I’ve liked the direction the Age of Apocalypse world has taken. I wished it remained a dead world. There was still plenty of stories left to tell in that world without reviving it with flashbacks and what not.
I know it was revived before X-Force, but I still wish it was left alone. Never really got what the point of keeping that world around was.
As a Capcom fan it was good to see Orange Hulk in there in X-Force though.
AoA Wolverine becoming the new Apocalypse has to be the very definition of messing with my childhood!
I’ll stomach it for X-Force and whenever I see AoA Nightcrawler but not as a monthly.
KZA thanks for that interview. Remender revealed lots of upcoming stuff.
I sort of had a feeling that the reason Captain Britain and co. wanted Fantomex dead was bigger than him killing Apoc. Jr. Good to have a confirmation on that.
Also great to hear that Remender is an old school Excalibur fan too! Sometimes I feel like I’m the only one.
