Marvel Comics Thread

Oh and Dormammu’s MvC 3 outfit is from this Defenders mini from DeMatteis. It won’t blow your mind or anything but the story is REEEALLY funny! Hulk has a few good moments in the story too.

Amazon.com: Defenders: Indefensible (Defenders (Marvel Comics)) (9780785117629): Keith Giffen, J.M. Dematteis, Kevin Maguire: Books

If there are any specific MvC 3 characters or characters in general that you are looking to read about myself and others can narrow things down somewhat. Or Marvel characters in general.

Oh and for Shuma-Gorath… Umm… Errr… Wait until they collect Invaders Now (one more issue to go) because you’ll have a hard time finding any comics with him in it.

I am deeply shamed that I haven’t read the Giffen/DeMatteis/Maguire Defenders miniseries.

Yeah there’s some good stuff in that Defenders mini. Silver Surfer hanging out with real surfers, Dormammu and Umar having a really comedic sibling rivalry and lots of other funny things like that which I won’t spoil. Definitely worth reading if you have a sense of humor about this kind of stuff.

EDIT: Alonso’s the new EIC! :wow:

2011 is already looking up! I have nothing against Quesada, but I am really excited about this change.

Age of X Communique updated with Cyclops and Rogue, who are not called Cyclops and Rogue in the Age of X lol!

AGE OF X COMMUNIQUÉS: Basilisk, Legacy - Comic Book Resources

Dunno what to say about this change, but…outside of Spiderman, thanks for the good times Joe Q.

WON’T SOMEONE PLEASE THINK ABOUT THE CHILDREN? Avengers The Children’s Crusade that is! :looney:

Another dope issue, featuring lots of important characters from the Marvel U! Magneto! DOOM! MAGNETO! Hell yeah!

Haven’t read Avengers Prime #5 yet. Seems like Carey has an Age of X interview running through all of the Marvel books this week.

You mentioned that Marvel has an atlas for just the fiction countries in their universe, what about for characters? I was thinking something like if I was living in the Marvel version of Earth who would I might run into if I was in such and such place?

I’m a bit ignorant on comics in general. Wish I could read more, but I’m broke. I would make my own map, but I’ll just list where I think some characters can be found.

If you were in

California: Iron Man, Spider-woman

Texas: Hulk

New York: Spider-man, Fantastic Four, X-men, Punisher, King Pin, Power Pack, Luke Cage

WDC: Captain America

Japan: Silver Samurai

Africa: Black Panther, Storm

fixed

There’s only 2 Marvel Universe Atlas comics released a few years back. It’s collected in a trade and it shouldn’t set you back too much. And yes for every single country it tells you who lives wherever, within reason (because almost everyone lives in New York). There’s maps too (so don’t bother making one lol) along with the fictional histories of these continents within the Marvel Universe.

Amazon.com: Marvel Atlas (9780785129981): Michael Hoskin, Stuart Vandal, Anthony Flamini, Eric J. Moreels: Books

Avengers Prime was dope just for Alan Davis’ art. He drew armies of dragons, trolls and whatever the hell else messes with Thor’s peeps. Makes me miss the old Excalibur days.

Stan Lee has a Soapbox entry in this week’s entry of Shonen Jump lol! Because he’s the co-creator of the manga Ultimo. Stan says “So watching Naruto and Bleach become popular, than mainstream, then recent classics here in the U.S. has been a real treat.” HA HA Stan is DOWN with us otaku! Stan’s the man! :clapdos:

Saw this in Comic Shop News this week, so I guess it’s old news but new news to me… There’s going to be a book called 5 Ronin that features Wolverine, Psylocke, The Punisher, Hulk and Deadpool as samurai. It’s being written by Peter Milligan. Interesting!

Re Young Avengers

Spoiler

Iron Lad is back! I keep waiting for him to turn! Just like how I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop with Hope in the xmen stuff. Really enjoying this series. Did this part of the story tie in with any of the previous Avengers issues? I wonder if they always had Wiccan and Thomas in mind when they wrote Avengers: Disassembled.

Generation Hope is good, but soooo sloooowwww. I mean, I understand how the fight with/over the fifth new mutant should take a while, but c’mon. Needs more risk and difficulty. Shrug.

I’m looking forward to a lot of the things coming up in 2011.

All the mutants and the x men are in utopia in Cali, Black Panther is currently in Hell’s Kitchen if you’re referring to T’Challa

Re: Your spoiler, non spoiler response. Not entirely sure I fully understand your question, but here goes -

So far no other real tie-ins with the story in Avengers The Children’s Crusade, in that no one is dealing with the ramifications of anything going on here right this second.

It’s a little off because Steve Rogers is Captain America after Siege when he shouldn’t be, it should be Bucky. This is an unfortunate result of Heinberg needing a lot of lead time to do his story (stop writing TV shows and movies I don’t watch I beg you Heinberg! You were put on this Earth to write comics ONLY I swear. Marvel give him more $$$. :P) so everything was penned before Marvel decided to keep Bucky as Cap.

Scarlet Witch has been leading the Gypsy life with no memory lol when Hawkeye ran into her after he came back to life, so all that lines up.

Unless you mean previous Young Avengers stories. Yeah, everything fits with everything. Just Cap’s identity is off with the rest of the Marvel U.

Marvel has said to bear with us, everything will fit and be explained eventually.

But like really WHO CARES. Nothing against Bucky Cap but Steve Rogers as Cap is a LEGEND and if you can get another heavy hitter in your story man go for it. Bucky caught a cold and Steve was filling in or something like that. Works for me! :wonder:

C’mon, Sano, I thought you read every post?

Also, there are actually people that would buy a “Marvel Atlas”? This news amazes me. For some reason, I just assumed that nobody would actually spend money on atlases and character handbooks and such now that we live in the Internet age. That Marvel Atlas is probably out of date by now, too.

Ha totally looked over that post.

The Atlas is pretty up to date, or better put there haven’t been many large geographical changes to Marvel’s landscape over the years that would warrant releasing a newer version.

Some teaser images with Kang from the next Avengers cartoon ep! Wonder what his voice will sound like. I’ve liked all of the voices in this cartoon so far. Some like Iron Man and Cap grew on me after a while.

Some more Age of X stuff.

Experience The History Of “Age of X” - Comic Book Resources

Phoenix / Dark Phoenix (as a Gill Resurrection type of move) is in MvC 3 and she’s in Age of X. Cross promotion is cool. Will be nice to see Jean again, um… if she’s not really Hope that is!

For those on a tight budget, “Atlases” and handbooks are better than buying every comic. They are pretty informative imo. They are also great resources when starting up/getting back into things after a long hiatus. The internet is a cheaper alternative, but generally (not strictly) less efficient and less reliable. I’ve found a healthy middle ground for myself between using the two.

Marvel needs a comparable book to the DC Encyclopedia (although it may probably be too large/voluminous for practical purposes).

I read alot of Marvel’s ‘What-if’ and Exiles (sad hey got canceled again:sad:) but after seeing that last post by Sano with those Age of X pics this might seem more interesting than I thought.

Alonso Speaks As Editor-in-Chief - Comic Book Resources

And just in case anyone missed this, here’s Stan Lee getting his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! :clapdos:

Exiles is amazing, I wanna reread that series again and all the new stuff.

X-23 isn’t a bad comic, a little drama filled and teeny at times, but it’s nice. Also I don’t know why so many people are complaining about Black Panther as the Man without Fear, DD is coming back soon anyways.
