Marvel Comics Thread

Latest issue of Fantastic Four was beyond awesome.

The all first arc by Hickman was awesome
let’s hope he will continue like this

I wrote SOME OF THE BEST, not necessarilly THE DEFENITIVE BEST. I’ve heard that Peter David wrote Hulk before Pak got on board and as I wrote, I plan to read them eventually.

FUCK YES

Good choice!

Posted in the Spider-Man thread but just in case, Weisman’s response to the comment from Yost and Rollman about the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon being over.

Punisher is the Batman of Marvel Comics expect he doesn’t let villains continue to murder innocent people. He killed the entire Marvel Univers and he beat Wolverine when he had adamantium so he gonna die to bone claws? I don’t buy it. He’s just as dead as Batman by the way. He’ll be fine.

Anyways in the mean time in between time there should be a new Punisher now. I nominate Bucky. You can’t have 2 Captain America. That’s just wrong. They can’t call him “the Captain” since that’s been done before. He should be the Punisher and he can use guns for something besides shooting people in the leg.

what a waste of a character, barnes and castle have different M.O.‘s, barnes’ wouldnt work as a punisher
bucky should still remain capt america
rogers should become director of shield
and frank should keep punishing, cyborg or not

Don’t be a wimp. To hell with him. If you think it’s the best say so.

Personally I’d put the Planet Hulk storyline up against any Hulk story ever. Hell I think it’s the **best Hulk storyline ever ** and believe me I’ve read plenty. If that means these comic elitists hippies feathers get ruffled then good.

Peter David Hulk wasn’t all that anyways. The ones with McFarlane and Keown were pretty good. Other than that meh. Just because you write a comic for a long time doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best. That dead guy wrote Captain America forever but that doesn’t mean the comic didn’t suck.

zephy would love to have alan moore write hulk
then it would be the best

I’m with you on that one

Fair enough. Bucky probably shouldn’t go back to killing for a living. He’d like it too much and act like the Winter Soldier. He’d still be a pretty damn effective Punisher though.

In the meantime Hawkeye/Goliath/Ronin/Clint Barton could be Punisher. He knows how to use weapons and isn’t afraid to take lives in order to save lives. It would just be until Frank Castle returns from the Negative Zone because we know that he really isn’t dead.

ya i can see clint doing it
seeing as how bullseye is making him go all nutty

lol and i just remembered something terrible, because you mentioned capt america becoming punisher

remember this… ewww

Planet Hulk is good but, just my opinion I don’t know if anything Pak’s done lives up to PAD’s run, but it’s up there as in I like Pak’s stuff a lot.

PAD really defined Hulk with giving him the different personalities, really getting into his head, having him being an abused child and so on. To me it’s still the definitive run on Hulk.

As an aside PAD himself has said that he enjoyed Planet Hulk.

I wonder how the cartoon for Planet Hulk will turn out. I still don’t trust the Marvel Animation staff 100%. Why oh why did they give Hulk red eyes…

All that psychobabble for the Hulk has a place (It should be a very small place). Peter David (to a point) still remembered that it was a comic book and didn’t need to be boring as hell. The guys after him Jenkins, Jones just couldn’t realize that. With them it was like a frickin Dr. Phil comic. When you see the Hulk in a Hulk comic like 3 times in over a year that’s not good.

That’s what made Planet Hulk so cool. It was Planet Hulk and not Planet Banner with Hulk in his mind fighting “the Enemy Within”.

Hulk’s expression is “Hulk Smash” not “Hulk sits in a corner crying taking Prozac because Daddy didn’t love him”.

I agree with you for the most part. I do think PAD balanced things out really well.

With Pak pretty much everything boils down to a slugfest. Which I like. I enjoy lots of fighting, violence, etc. and I don’t always need to be bogged down thinking about what is in everybody’s head. Hulk fighting Iron Man for 16 + pages is awesome to me. Of course, that is just me.

There is still a disconnect with his stuff because to me he hasn’t really gotten into his character’s heads, or at least not the way that PAD can / has. I agree if he tried like Jones and Jenkins it may not work out to well anyway so he’s probably better off doing what he’s doing.

All in all I think PAD writing that story with what was going on with Bruce Banner during Planet Hulk added to the tale. I still think he’s the best with that sort of thing.

Oh and I REEEALLY liked PAD’s Hulk: The End. Hands down my favorite ‘The End’ story. The Punisher one was good too.

Hulk: The End is the best Hulk story I’ve read.

Planet Hulk was a little too lowbrow for my comic book elitist taste. Just… something about sending the Hulk into space to fight gladiator-style battles doesn’t appeal to me. It’s like someone thought it’d be a great idea to see the Hulk fight a series of superpowered opponents in a contrived setting just to see who’s the strongest of them all. (When we already know it’s the Hulk.) Craft-wise, it’s the Hulk equivalent of having Daredevil battle Mephisto just because they’re both devils. Questionable premise that I could never overlook.

Same goes for World War Hulk, but at least that had JRjr art.

I haven’t even read all of David’s run on Hulk, but a lot of the earlier issues don’t stand out to me. Like the T-Mac run - that was actually really bad. I couldn’t believe it when people pointed to that as one of the seminal Hulk stories. It doesn’t hold up at all. I think David’s '90s issues were better, and Future Imperfect might have been the peak.

Best hulk stories are the Planet Hulk and World War Hulk MINI MARVEL VERSIONS

I don’t really post in this thread but I thought Peter David had the best Hulk run imo (compared to Jones, Jenkins, Pak and Loeb). Hulk 377 to 400ish were awesome (Intelligent Green Hulk, drawn by Dale Keown, sp, and with the Pantheon). His Grey Hulk run was pretty good too (Ground Zero). And the Future Imperfect and the End were two of the best Hulk storylines ever. I don’t really remember there being psychobabble. David doesn’t write that way. If you look at David’s current run on X-Factor or when he was writing Spiderman, that’s pretty much how he wrote Hulk. He made Bruce Banner’s supporting cast interesting, added a new wrinkle with the multiple personalities, etc.

BUT…I do like Planet Hulk. It was a good story. Probably the best Hulk story time. I’m interested to see how Pak handles the World War Hulks.

No it isn’t.
