^Yeah, I’m only five issues into the run and I’m already in love with the Fantastic Four. Before this, I thought they were kinda goofy.
Ok, so I just read the first issue of Immortal Iron Fist again. DAMN. WTF crack was I smoking when I wrote the earlier post? Noir-style narration, kung-fu mystical magic, bitches turning into swans and flying out the window, kung-fu battles against Hydra legions…this shit is awesome.
The awesomeness of Ed Brubanker grows. I’m so sorry for doubting you*
*oh, and you too Matt Fraction. I love your Invincible Iron Man series.
Joe Kelly’s run was great no doubt about that, he wrote a lot of good stuff with DP.
Umm so? If a Brubaker book had loads of text, wouldn’t you STILL read them? The amount of text in DP comics is fine, since most of them are either humorous or written OK.
Not when the humor is done right, which is the case with most of DP’s books. You should also take into consideration how in Way’s current run, he incorporates the fact that DP has ‘3 minds’ doing the thinking for him, its all part of DP being different than most comic characters.
Did you even READ Joe Kelly’s run? There was the development of DP finding out whether he is a good guy or bad guy throughout the first half of the 90s series.
In the Cable and DeadPool series, both characters learned from one another and their buddy cop relationship has helped them with that.
Besides not all comics have to affect the Marvel U. as a whole.
So because a series doesn’t meet YOUR preferences in a comic it’s shit and isn’t recommend-able?
That’s BS, I myself have read various comics over the past 2 years and if there is a series I didn’t like (WWH for example) i would comment on how I didn’t like it BUT would still recommend it. It’s all different tastes when it comes to comics.
May Brubaker never bless you at the gates of his pearly havens.
Like I said I’ve read various series, many of which I enjoyed, DeadPool was one of them and I’ll confess; there were some stories I didn’t like BUT I believe it was just the writer trying a different approach with the character. Now this I don’t mind, but even if I don’t like it, I wouldn’t spoil the fun or annoy someone who has enjoyed it.
I read the TPBs for the first 2 DW G1 books and I really enjoyed them
The difference is that Brubaker is a good writer. Daniel Way is the Kwame Brown of pro comics writing. He keeps getting paid because he’s a tall guy with “Tremendous Upside Potential.” Deadpool’s not funny any more. You’re either blinded by character loyalty or cursed with a taste for lousy writing if you honestly think the current series is anything good.
Clinty already pointed out how the writing lacks wit. I’m not saying that Daniel Way isn’t trying - I’m sure Kwame Brown has played pretty hard during practice. Maybe Clinty and I just have minds which are so sophisticated that we’re unable to appreciate the lowball quality of Daniel Way’s writing. It’s possible. But effort doesn’t equal talent. It’s a simple hard truth.
If there’s anyone on SRK who doesn’t need a hype-man, it’s gotta be Clinty… But I think he was saying that the current volume of Deadpool has no plot, no character development, and too much text. No need to act all self-righteous here.
Why would anyone recommend anything he didn’t like? That’s one of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen you post. I didn’t like Youngblood, but because it sold a gajillion copies back in the early '90s, it must mean lots of people liked it and therefore I must recommend it? Bullcrap.
The whole point of being an elitist comic book critic is so that we can take the piss out of shitty comics. Otherwise, what’s the point?
You don’t get to say that. Clinty’s a founding member of the church. He read SLEEEEEEEPER!!!11 when it was still just “Sleeper” and before Tom Cruise decided to buy the movie rights. He was reading Gotham Central before it was collected in fancy schmancy deluxe hardcovers. He read Catwoman when the Slam Bradley serial was initially being serialized in Detective Comics. He even owns a copy of Prez, the very first mainstream comic Brubaker ever wrote.
Clinty could murder my entire family and he would still deserve to enter Brubaker’s Paradise.
Really? You want to be considerate of other people’s opinions and feelings? Why are you here, then?
You don’t even like the Beatles. I don’t think we can have a rational, civilized conversation.
Wait Lint was talking about Way’s DP or DP in general?
Just read Bru/Frac/Aja’s run on Immortal Iron Fist. I LOVED IT. My love for Bru/Frac continues to grow. I hope Duane can keep the awesomeness going.
I seriously have no idea what the fuck I was smoking when I initially read it. It was fan-fucking-tastic.
Reed leaves all his bruises on the inside. Oh yes. I went there.
Is anyone here an xman fan? Ive only just recently got back into comics and have started getting uncanny xmen , cable etc and ive brought a couple of TPB, messiah complex and house of M. I do have a couple of questions. Such as where is Jean Grey and how come Professer X can walk! Also can anyone recomend any x books to get?
Thanks for any help/advise
Jean Grey died. After Phoenix End Song, Jean Grey’s soul combined with the Phoenix Force while her body is still a corpse. So kind of dead but the Phoenix Force in still floating around in space. Yes Phoenix End Song was very confusing.
Jean Grey may be reborn as the baby during Messiah Complex and the upcoming Messiah War since that girl has red hair and green eyes. We still don’t know if that’s the case.
After House Of M Professor X has been able to walk again. Most likely due to Scarlet Witch altering reality.
I suppose you should read Grant Morrison’s New X-Men run since Jean dies in it and Professor X gains the ability to walk again, for a time.
Clint likes stupid shit like fables.
Painy likes stupid shit like the Watchmen movie. And Daniel Way comics.
it’s just watchmen. not like it’s the best book ever written. remember zephy, there is no corpse
Finished Essential Spidey vol 4, and instead of reading something else I went straight to vol 5. Man that book doesn’t wait for anything, first few pages Gwen’s father died, I didn’t think it happened this early in the series.
Everyone needs to pick up Daredevil tomorrow, the Kingpin arc is starting and its going to be pure ownage to all other comics on the stands
Spiral will return in the pages of Uncanny X-Men. She’ll be partnered with Lady Deathstrike and a lady named Red Queen who ‘thinks’ she might be Madeline Pryor. Their team will be called the Sisterhood.
Not a fan of Fraction’s Uncanny though. He does hint that a former friend of the X-Men will return as a foe on the Sisterhood, I wonder if this will be Psylocke’s return since she is ‘supposed’ to return to 616 this year. Hmm.
Ah, there was a pretty big retcon about Wolverine’s past in Origins last week. Terrible plot though, but I read it for you so you wouldn’t have to ROFL!
Wolverine’s past
Spoiler
Fury started talking to Wolverine and started spilling some secrets. It turns out Wolverine’s mother was related to the Hudson family, you know the Hudsons of Alpha Flight fame. So he’s part of the Hudson family. WHAT THE… The rest of the storyline involved Cyclops grabbing the Muramasa Blade because he wants to KILL Wolvie’s son now that he’s a Dark Avenger… - But there is another plot to melt the Muramasa Blade down and cover Daken’s bones with it so he can kill Wolverine. Um yeah… This series is ending this year right? :looney:
Daniel Way is on FIRE!
One of these days, I think he will top that Chuck Austen story where he made Nightcrawler the son of a devil.
Yikes. Luckily, Mark Millar is still entertaining me with his Old Man Logan on the current “Wolverine” title, and Jason Aaron is taking over the “Wolverine: Weapon X” title, and judging by his fun-tastic story arcs “Get Mystique” and “Wolverine: Mainfest Destiny”, I’d say we’re in good hands away from Daniel Way :woot:
edit: Jason Aaron on his new “Wolverine: Weapon X” book:
WOLVERINE: WEAPON X – This new ongoing kicks off in April, and I’m hoping to have a very long run on this. This will be me getting to tell ever story I’ve ever wanted to tell with Wolverine.
And I’ll be there to read it, Jason
Yeah Wolverine Weapon X is supposed to take Wolverine Origins’ place last I heard.
Wolverine Origins is going to be about boring ol’ Draken after the current story arc, so we’ll just have to get our quality present-time Wolverine stories from someone who actually knows how to write him :looney:
Wow just… wow!
