Marvel Comics Thread

Whats up yall

so when are Quasar, Starlord and Wraith coming out?

Yes! It’s called Venom vs. Wolverine Tooth and Claw and it was a limited series, check your comic book store back bins. Awesome artwork. Story is kind of forgetable though so don’t ask me what happens because I really don’t remember. I think there’s a TPB out for it too.

Tooth and Claw, man, I had to google that. I don’t even remember it at all. That is some true '90s stuff. Hard to believe that is the only Wolvie/Venom mini. I would have expected Marvel to produce at least a dozen of them, just to cash in on their two popular '90s characters. Hey, remember that one graphic novel featuring Wolvie/Ghost Rider/Punisher?

There were two of them i think. Both involved blackheart.

Unless I’m mistaken I’m pretty sure Wolverine and Venom fought again a few years back in Venom’s own series, about 2-3 years ago or so. In that series, it was a piece of Venom’s suit that grew to become another Venom without a human host. Eventually that suit recombined with the other symbiote, once used by Eddie Brock and now by Gargan.

I Love Ultimate Power

But quite frankly I’m turned off by the new MU setting of the initiative… it’s soooo unrealistic and set in a Marvel context of “realism”

I really can’t judge World War Hulk since I haven’t read it… I loved Civil War (though hate it’s effects)

I wish Marvel would go back to the days where it feels like a “comic book” again instead of trying to be either a movie or a TV series.

Rugal 3:16 from ON.com?

Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness - Nice crossover story now that it’s over and the ending was hysterical!

New Avengers / Transformers - Fun. I liked how Spider-Man was written in thiis book, he was pretty funny.

Uncanny X-Men - Interesting. Spoiler for the Endangered Species part -

X-Men

Spoiler

So most of the baddies have turned down Beast’s request for help, but Spiral said she’d look into it. When in doubt, go with an MVC2 character ha ha! Beast is seeking out the High Evolutionary’s help in the meantime.

Ms. Marvel - And straight into spoilers.

Ms. Marvel

Spoiler

So Modok got a kid? Guess it had to be before he turned into a big head because if they did it during it would be too freaky… AIM just turned his kid into a bad villain who’s part robot too… in the story when Ms. Marvel’s powers went all crazy she started turning all blue and the Kree started speaking through her like ‘Uh oh we gotta patch her up.’ Bizarre. But Ms. Marvel turning all Kree since that’s where her powers come from… maybe the Kree will use her during this whole Marvel Universe Skrull invasion? And the plot thickens.

C’mon, man… I don’t know what Marvel books you are reading, but how can you make such blanket statements hankering for the “good old days.” Ahh, Rugal, we sure missed ya. For what it’s worth, I still think the Marvel Universe is more interesting than most any movie or TV series.

He’s just really passionate about DC lol.

Read World War Hulk… It’s pure old school comic book.

This thread on Rama cracked me up.

So, I read New Avengers 32…

New Avengers 32

[details=Spoiler]Do you guys think this could be one giant Skull plot? What Logan and Jessica was saying made sense, and if you think about it the oppotunity was way too convienent.

Shield pissing you off? Throw the chain of command into disarray by getting rid of Nick Fury.

Don’t know who all the super heroes are? Register and keep tabs on them.

The Hulk is too unpredicitable to handle and impossible to defeat? Send his ass somewhere else.

I don’t think they had shit to do with Wanda(how would they control it??) and I don’t think Tony Stark is a Skrull either. The Sentry would be much more likely.

Regardless, Wolvie is gonna be pissed when he wakes up.[/details]

And about NA 31…

New Avengers 31

[details=Spoiler]I just finished reading Alias and Pulse recently, and I think Hydra has something to do with this and that Jessica isn’t a Skrull. Remember when Hydra took Jessica away when she collapsed in front of that building? I think they did something to that baby when she was unconscious(don’t know what for though). And I can see Hydra making some deal with the Skrulls to help them take over shit(either that or having them taking over Hydra entirely).

I might be talking out of my ass, but something is strange here.

EDIT: Did Elektra have a run in with Hydra recently?[/details]

New Avengers 32

[details=Spoiler] To be honest i hope people don’t go overboard thinking that spiderwoman is a skrull.
Personally this is just a hunch but i have a theory that somehow the skrulls have developed a way to hypnotize people to work for them. I mean in the previous issue, Echo was working for Skrull Electra before Strange worked his magic and knocked Echo out of whatever spell she was under.
Hell i just read this months Wizard and those idiots actually think Tony Stark is a skrull and if thats somehow true i’ll STOP reading comics.[/details]

Wolverine: Enemy of the State

Spoiler

Yeah, Elektra encountered the hand in the Enemy of the State storyline. It would have been the perfect time for the “real” Elektra to be replaced by the Skrull imposter. The Hand and Hydra teamed up to kill, resurrect, and brainwash a multitude of metahumans, and they even got Elektra. Supposedly, she claimed to have shaken off/resisted the brainwashing during the story, and she helped Wolverine fight the enemy.

Annihilation Wraith - Space Western cool!

Deadpool GLI Special - So I learned that Squirrel Girl is GOD TIER BROKEN and Deadpool likes fat girls. Too funny!:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

New Avengers - And the plot thickens… Dun Dun DUUUUUN!

WWH Gamma Corps - Thought it was gonna be better than it was… I hope next ish there’s some beatdowns…

Nova - Oh snap twist ending…

[spoiler=]They bought out that female Nova Marvel teased before in an image… right now I’m not sure if the male Nova is dead or not oooh…[/spoiler]

Spidey Loves MJ - Gonna miss McKeever… He said his goodbyes in this book and somehow still got to plug his Teen Titans book ha ha! I’m excited about Terry Moore taking over the book though. Still curious as to who is gonna be the new artist.

Oh, the latest cartoon of Cartoon Network’s Fantastic Four had an episode called “Annihilation” of all things that aired Saturday. :looney: Annihilus was in it only he was all pink… Well, they were doing a whole everything in the Negative Zone is all shaded in red ordeal, I guess like a room where you develop negatives for film? Wasn’t a bad episode though overall for what it’s worth.

Yo momma so Skrull thread.:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Someones take on one of Thors recent cover art.

Lately I’m into:

*Power Pack *- What makes these books shine is the art from Japanese illustration team Gurihiru. It’s just cute, borrowing as much from traditional anime stylings as much as it does from classic American cartoons. The stories are utterly ridiculous even for Marvel standards (Spider-Shota and Venom Katie for example), but the whacked out Saturday morning cartoon feel of each of the minis is pulled together by the art.

Spider-Man <3 Mary Jane - I never really dug Miyazawa’s work for Marvel. I just felt he never really had a place where his art was appropriate. Ironically enough (or not), Miyazawa’s art would find no better home than with Sean McKeever’s Mary Jane books. McKeever’s a formidable writer - Peter Parker’s supporting high school cast are fleshed out, their world expressed through a believably adolescent voice. McKeever’s strength is that he knows teenagers. His characters are intelligent and articulate, but inexperienced and naive. Mary Jane and Spider-Man convey emotions subtly, while Liz Allen and Harry Osborn often speak with negligently blunt dialogue. Couple the excellent scripts with Miyazawa’s anime-inspired, appropriately charming artwork, and you have the most charming book Marvel has put out in ages.

X-Factor - What more needs to be said of PAD’s book? X-Factor is like Scrubs meets the X-Men. X-Factor is intriguing, with private sleuth and one-man army Jamie Madrox and his team of mutant misfits taking on odd mutant related cases. It’s also fucking hillarious, X-Factor being scripted and drawn in a way in which its panels have excellent comedic timing, not unlike a good sitcom (again, see: Scrubs). For example: Jamie wakes up with a pounding headache, barely remembering that he was drunk the night before. He passes Monet in the hallway, who smiles at him, realizing that they had a one night stand. Before he has time to regret it, he runs into Theresa, who is also smiling at him. The realization slowly dawns on Jamie that his clones slept with the women behind their backs. As soon as he’s about to walk up the stairs, he notices Layla Miller smiling at him. Jamie’s face is awash with horror at the implications this has regarding the pre-teen girl, but she reassures him that nothing happened last night, opting instead to save herself for her wedding night.

Barracuda - A complete 180 degree turn from Power Pack comes Barracuda, who is as hillariously ugly and disfigured as Katie Power is moe. Barracuda is Garth Ennis just letting lose for four all-too-short issues, killing off a disproportionate amount of generic mercenaries, mafiosos, federal agents and revolutionaries. Whereas X-Factor was intelligently crafted irony, Barracuda is an all out farce with dick jokes. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Superhero team books I follow but may or may not like according to the brief reasons following:

*Avengers: The Initiative - *Interesting book, good artwork. Series takes a copmletely unexpected turn at the end of the first issue, and I hope Dan Slott can deliver some more unexpected twists in crafting what may be a unique story. Sort of like a cross between New X-Men and Boot Camp.

New Avengers - Love the moody artwork the book just received, and I love the roster. Just dropped one of the biggest Marvel Universe bombshells of recent history.

Runaways - Just brilliant. The best young superhero team book in the industry. The characters are fully realized, the artwork’s been gorgeous, and the book has a smart sense of humor. It was an excellent run by the always wonderful Brian K Vaughn (Y: The Last Man and Pride of Baghdad deserve to be read) and it remains a great read under Joss Whedon.

Mighty Avengers - Haven’t been following it lately, but it’s a decent enough book. What I actually like about this book is that it suffers from BENDIS SCRIPT far more than even Ultimate Spider-Man. Not only do characters talk to each other a ridiculous amount, they THINK to themselves a ridiculous amount. You will be hard pressed to find a page in this comic where a character doesn’t think to him or herself at least twice.

Thunderbolts - Hasn’t really captured my imagination. A superhero team made up of unlikable villains who are also unlikable protagonists (besides Norman Osborn, he shines in this book). Other than American Dream beating the piss out of Bullseye and Norman Osborn being awesome, I have no reason to read this book.

The Loners - I like it. Takes a bunch of obscure characters and goes to town. It even made Mattie Franklin interesting enough. Worth reading.

Link doesn’t work for me…
