Marvel Comics Thread

Here’s an insight and a deep one, Loeb comics sucks monkey balls

Jeph Loeb is the comic book writer version of Micheal Bay or I guess you can call him George Lucas because the man loves for stuff to look flashy, can rarely can write on a decent level and pretty much still manages to sell despite these facts.

Ultimatum = Marvel giving the inmate (Jeph Loeb) keys to the asylum and worrying about cleaning up fecal matter after they make money off pimping it for the masses to watch. Kind of like a less structured reality television program.

Well the wellest of men posted something credible on Loeb.
Ultimatum is more like CoUE, the 2nd issue is kinda good since it features some deaths.
Also I strongly recommend reading What if Mary Jane had died instead of Aunt May? Pretty good story showing a better way of how Peter’s fate goes in that direction.

zephy; i had to leave our game that day cause you were reading a chaykin book. shocked me into leaving

At least George Lucas was responsible for creating some amazing stuff. Sure, it was decades ago, but there’s no way anyone can ever convince me that the Star Wars prequels have somehow tarnished the original trilogy. Those will always be great.

Jeph Loeb’s best work was probably The Long Halloween, and he owes most of that to Tim Sale (and probably Archie Goodwin and Frank Miller). In fact, every decent comic that’s ever had Loeb’s name on it also has Tim Sale’s name on it.

So I think Jeph Loeb is more like Will Smith, only not as charismatic, not as good an actor, a lesser rapper, and probably not as good a writer. (I guess that means that Tim Sale is DJ Jazzy Jeff.)

I thought you quit because we couldn’t beat up that other guy’s Balrog. I think after you left, I finally beat him once, but then he started using somebody else and I couldn’t win any more.

I’ve owned a full run of American Flagg! for over a year now and I’ve finally begun reading it. It’s some quality work, bub. You can see why Chaykin is often mentioned in the same breath as Miller, Moore, and Spiegelman when it comes to redefining comics in the '80s. It sure beats the heck out of that cruddy Daniel Way comic you like to read every month.

Heres a random Post , but I came across these three first issue 1 X-MEN comics. Im sure they are worth something , is there a site or something I could go to check?

Or would anyone happen to know off hand?

The one in the middle is probably worth $1-$5 dollars. I can’t see the two on the sides clearly enough, but if those are both #1’s, then I’m guessing they are either reprints or something so obscure I don’t recognize them.

If you have an eBay account, see if you can look them up there, and check under “Completed Listings” to see what the going rate is.

All the price guide stuff is bull. Those are just for stores to justify ripping people off. I don’t know of any stores that will actually pay somebody the “official” price for a comic.

Ok cool , thanks alot man appreciate it. Ill be sure to check that out.

I read the latest issue of New Avengers. Thought it was above average and very entertaining. Bendis’ writing was a lot sharper than usual. The art was kind of rough at spots. The early half of the book, in particular, really looks like a step backward from what Billy Tan did on Uncanny X-Men a couple of years ago. Maybe it’s the loose inking style that makes it look sloppy and kind of '90s-ish. I enjoyed seeing the new team develop and the different characters all have a good reason to be a part of the team.

Of course, if I were a continuity pornographer, I’d bombard Sano with questions as to how Wolverine can be a New Avenger in New York and an X-Man in San Francisco.

Alot of the stuff with Wolverine being with the X-men in San Fran and X-force takes place before Secret Invasion.

oh to add

Avengers: TI # 20

[details=Spoiler]Copying and pasting from the preview thread:

I thought Hank using Jocasta to see if he would have been able to rekindle his relationship with Janet was pretty clever (and therapeutic). I was disappointed Pym wasn’t just being insane though.

Him making fun of the GI Ant-Man bit was funny, especially if Hank would have came up with it anyway.

And damn, Skrull Pym had a contingency plan for everything…Doomsday Wasp, the last issue of AI, Tigra’s vagina and now Ragnarok.

I’m surprised nobody ever explored the idea of Skrull Pym deliberately programming Ragnarok to kill people during Civil War, it definitely would have made a disgusting pro-registration moment alot easier to swallow looking back.

I was shocked when i read that. MZ skill level seems to be crazy high. Was

Typhoid Mary

really that beastly? Also Taskmaster is the truth. LOL.

I love taskmaster as a character ever since he got on A:TI. The one issus with Butterball is lolz

Ultimate Hulk Annual was written by Loeb. It had good art and some nice fights, but as usual the dialog was not very good, or at least hard to stomach-
“Hulk has money. Hulk wants pancakes”

Read Captain America 45, and that issue had lots of emotions in it

Thor Movie rumor

^Branagh will probably play Loki himself or Odin.

I’m guessing Loki is defeated but pulls a fast one in the end of the movie so Thor is sent to Midgard as Donald Blake by Odin so he could learn humility.

LOL. Marvels - Eye of the Camera is out already I didnt’ even realize. I remember the old comic book threads from 2002-2003 talking about it. LMAO. talk about late.

Only redeeming thing about hulk was the inside cover.

Return of Defenders babyyyy

my favourite overpowered team of all time

…and Frank Cho’s sexy ass art.

Who face off against THE OFFENDERS!
