Maritimes Thread 2012

Good luck to you guys heading off to PEI!

Take all dat fight money. :3

Good luck in PEI fellows. Mal, I’ll be in the middle of butt-fuck no where camping, I wont be able to watch the stream at all.

GUYS. GUYS. guys. MLP: Fighting is magic leaked. I feel like such a dirty, dirty scumbag.

get to use that lvl 3 pinkamena at home now?

Shrub for closet brony.

I’ll have to try it sometime though.

Great, I turn on my 360 first time I get back from the trip, E74…wtf do I do now.

Alright, I can’t take it anymore. I’m making an MvC team. This is it!

I’m going to try and run a rush down/mixup team so I was looking at characters that can lock down the other player. I’m feeling Vergil (rapid slash), Doom (missles), but then it gets a bit fuzzy. I was kinda set on Wesker originally for the otg assist, but now I’m leaning more toward Magneto (beam) or X-23 (otg). I really don’t know that much about the strengths/weaknesses of the majority of the cast so any input on an anchor would be appreciated.

Vergil/Wesker/Magneto is the best possibility of your choices listed in my opinion.

If you want to run Vergil/Doom you have a few options. Zero/Vergil/Doom, Wesker/Vergil/Doom, Dorm/Vergil/Doom, or even more oddball choices like Vergil/Doom/Skrull. It’s important that you feel comfortable with your characters. You could also look into Spencer. Spencer/Vergil/Doom would probably be the “best” team you can make with Vergil/Doom(missiles) that I can think of. I believe you’d be able to get 4 up grapples with that team. (up grapples do unscaled 80k damage).

Hey guys! My boyfriend and I are going to be arriving from Tennessee to Nova Scotia (specifically Halifax and Antigonish) from Thursday the 9th til Tues the 14th and in PEI (Charlottetown) starting the 14th until the 21st.

We were really hoping to find some people to play UMvC3 with…either casuals with people (we will have access to a car) or a tourny in the area.

You can reach me by facebook or twitter at /zombiesaurus
or via this forum

Hope to hear something!

@ralstonarcade for your local umvc3 needs

New DLC characters make me want to pay XTekken again, then I remember it’s XTekken and I don’t want to spend another 20$ on that game, hahaha. But the Maritimes need more team pump, so torn.

Ralston runs most of the UMvC3 stuff, and you can find them on Twitter (as mentioned) or www.twitchtv.com/ralstoninstall.

As far as stuff going on while you’re here in Halifax, there’s a P4A launch tournament on Saturday at Ralston, some SF action at The Last Gamestore on Monday night, and UMvC3 brackets at Ralston on Tuesday night.

Not sure what’s going on in Charlottetown though, to be honest, haha.

I think the PEI crew runs stuff on Thursdays at lightning bolt comics, but I’m not certain. The only real meetup for umvc3 that’ll be happening is Tuesday evening from 6:30-whenever. A fair number of marvel players will probably be showing up for the P4A tourney on Saturday, but there’ll likely only be one casual station at most. Monday night SF at The Last Game Store in Lacewood might have a screen of marvel, but very few marvel players in attendance.

Somebody tell me who P4A’s best zoner and lowest skill:reward ratio characters are so I can focus before Saturday. I’m not prepared to play anybody who takes more effort than Arthur or Honda. EVER.

As far as zoners go in P4A, you could try Elizabeth, Naoto, or Yukiko. Aigis is a weird mix of rushdown in Orgia mode, and zoning when she’s not. None of those characters are particularly easy though, and rushdown is really strong in this game.

Are instakills all unblockable, guaranteed kills? Because that doesn’t make a lot of sense. Mostly wondering about Naoto’s, although I got caught by two others while downbacking my face off. re: Naoto’s, I jumped around all the fuckin’ crosshairs that pop up everywhere, then the camera view changed and I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to block or jump out of them, so I chicken-blocked, and then I fuckin’ died. (can’t remember what the other two were, but both times I was like “okay, I know what that music means: block. WHAT THE FUCK FUCK THIS GAME FOR LIFE”)

I feel 1/3 completely furious and 2/3 surprisingly alright about this game right now! The furious is because every loss online has been an instakill, but the alright is because I actually won one. Airdash B, mash A all day. I got this game on blast.

Naoto’s IK is unblockable, but if you’re not in the crosshairs, then you’re fine.

Some of the IK conditions are pretty weird. Akihiko’s pulls you in and is unblockable, but you can just walk backwards to avoid it. If you’ve got shock ailment though, GGs. Elizabeth’s is a counter, and you have to counter three hits for it to activate. Kanji’s is a command grab where he walks forward, but it’s important to know that while he is walking, he is completely invincible. Shabby’s is a command grab, but she has to input the move first, and she’ll get this flame aura and a meter that counts down the time she has to IK you, then input the move again for the grab to come out.

Everything else is blockable as far as I know.

I think it was Akihiko’s that caught me after Naoto’s pissed me off. It makes kind of a Sethy gravity sphere thing? That sucked, hahaha. Anyway I agree with what Ryan said on FB about the game: very user friendly but pretty deep. I like that it’s less complex than BB (or at least it looks a hell of a lot less intimidating) but still has a lot of specific character knowledge.

Good stuff at the tourney today everybody, sucks but I pretty much slept through it. Nice to see Dan getting some mileage out of that bullshit air grab!

HEY! I offered Luke a tip for 2$ during finals. It’s not my fault! I would have told him.
