March 10th and 11th, 2007 (FINALROUND)X "10th year of a southern tradition"

one, i didnt say it wasnt important. it obviously is a pressing issue, but i mean you cant say that the results will be so strongly affected. On the games that were on console, last year, and the year before that, the best player won the tournament. the results really speak for themselves regardless of anyone feeling the results were in any way cheapened by the format. if youre that good, you’ll adapt.

also, ultimately, the bottom line is certain games at final round are arcade. if you have a problem with that(not speaking to you directly dsp), i hope you come anyway, but its your choice at the end of the day.

The whole issue is really annoying. Adaptation is the main essential to “Competitive Play” if you cant adapt then you shouldnt be playing point blank. This is not aimed at anyone in particular but a general statement and is my opinion. So anyone think about coming on me for this Ease up cause its my opinion thats all.
I’ve been to Canada twice and had to play on they’re Jap cabs and even though I knew i wouldnt be 100% I practiced on them before tournament and adapted and in the end I ended up winning ST and AE respectively on both occasions. I could have easilyu not went but i knew the circumstances just like all these console tournaments. Im probrably the most pro arcade player in the community and i still go to console and all console tournaments…but hey thats just me! :wgrin:

Larry: What would you say to SSBM added to the FR roster. The community in itself is huge and it can definetly bring already big numbers.Me and Justin are going to and have been playing the game hardcore and he himself can tell you the big potential behind it. I think adopting SSMB to FR would be a great thing but we can talk about that through pm/email if you are at all interested. Im very serious about this too so let a brother know aight!

LOL why? dont take the game so seriously. :looney:

its just street fighter. dragon punch em in the lip, throw em around a little bit. its not like you’re performing brain surgery or anything.

Street Fighter is serious business. I was biased at first against console tournaments only because my stick was broken.

Could care less if it’s on console/arcade now.

I might go to this, my buddy just got into GT grad school…this would be a cool time to visit. My deciding on whether to go or not will be based on what kind of cabs and sticks/buttons are in the cabs…if they are stand up cabs…then fuck that. And if there are anything but 360s in the cabs…then fuck that.

Also, adaptation is essential to “competitve play” when referring to adapting to your opp. play style. Not when you’re playing on a busted ass stick and you gotta “adapt” by changing low block from 225 degrees to 200 degrees. That’s just fuckin lame.

Hope to get more info on what kind of cabs/sticks the tourney will run soon.

The controls on the 3S cabinets last year were god awful. Only one machine out of three functioned semi-decently (the head to head one). If you want games to run on arcade then at least put in working/good controls, if not just switch to console and kill the control issues altogether.

2 years ago people ask me to make sure the cab’s had perfect 360’s or they wouldn’t play on the cab’s, so my friends went out and bought 360’s. I didn’t because I never like how the 360 feel when I play. But that’s all I heard online was the only way to play on a cab is with perfect 360 joysticks. Now it’s 2 years later and everyone hates 360’s now. The sticks weren’t in bad condition. The stick are brand new and it seems like no one likes how brand new 360’s feel. I was planning on buying some 8 way happs competition stick’s to put in the other machines, but i’m wondering if that would help. Would people still complain?

I thought people would embrace an arcade cabinet 3S tournament due to lack of arcade tournaments now of days. I mean, I don’t have to spend extra money on a U-haul to try and silmulate an arcade style tournament in 3S and my friends don’t have to lend their shit if all they hear is bitchin and complaining. I thought my last post would had explain how and why i’m running 3S, ST, and A3 on cab’s. We will do our best to make sure everything is working correctly. I know the pro’s and con’s of running games on cabs.

P.S.-I hope everyone that’s involve with this debate was actual planning on attending this years event. Everyone that attended last years event that voice your opinions are taken into serious account. Don’t think that i’m not hearing what you guy’s are saying. No one wants to play in a tournament that they feel they can’t play 100% due to the joysticks.

The head to head cab has perfect 360’s.
My white showcase cab and 8 way happs competition sticks with cup holders.
Jordans blue cab has brand new perfect 360’s

we have stools for each station and most likely I will have another cab at frx.

why not just save lots of time/trouble/bitching and play console, bring your own stick?

???

Everything worked fine last year imo. I was able to red parry and do everything else on all cabs…although the dub cab was my favorite.

Basically, the last page or so can be summed up by “You can’t please everyone”. So just make whatever decision you feel is best and stick to it.

I think the Arcade cabs are just fine…cause you had 100+ Heads last Year so they seem to be working AOK!

but you have to realize that different people have different expectations. maybe somebody who wins 3 games is content with his performance. maybe they’re striving for top 8. as valle said, if you’re not top 3, who the fuck are you? a placing itself is objective, but it can be very subjective to the individual person. so using arcade controls that the majority of people are unfamiliar with for the sake of nostalgia doesn’t make a ton of sense. i have good memories of the old arcade in my town and playing mvc2, cvs1, and A3, but i also remember the busted sticks and how happy i was to play those people on console so i wouldn’t bitch about missing moves.

and it DEFINITELY has a HUGE bearing on the placing when people have to switch their mains (ie SAIII yun or V-akuma) for somebody like ken/chun or A-dhalsim due to the unfamiliar arcade controls. and yes, this did happen last year.

and larry, i’m hoping this isn’t coming off as disrespectful or anything. i had a blast last year and definitely am coming again, i’m just stating my opinion on the matter.

peace

PS- starboy said what i was trying to say better: Also, adaptation is essential to “competitve play” when referring to adapting to your opp. play style. Not when you’re playing on a busted ass stick and you gotta “adapt” by changing low block from 225 degrees to 200 degrees. That’s just fuckin lame.

Well, what Larry has described is how we do Final Round. Hope to see all you guys there but we can’t please everybody. So if you don’t like it, I hope to see you there, but we’ve been doing the arcade mix since Final Round 7 and we all put in a lot of extra work to get all the cabs in from off a truck that gets rented every year, get the TVs set up with the systems and games, deal with our shit (the staff’s) getting stolen each and every fucking year, drawing up brackets, trying to deal with any and all issues people have on top of not sleeping but about 4 hours the entire weekend. THEN we gotta clean up after everybody. And we aren’t doing this for us, we’re doing it for you people. So for people who were complaining or are coming to the thread to voice their concerns, we hear you but you can’t please everybody.

Everybody involved in Final Round puts in work to get this event done. Nobody does more than Larry and Shonda to bring this event around. People put in their own money just so you guys can play. We don’t have mad duckets to do this. We do this cause we like doing it and I ain’t sayin’ all this cause we want praise or whatever, but we agonize over every small detail to make it fun for ya’ll and seein’ all this bitchin’ is flat out pissing me the fuck off.

We don’t have arcades here like the rest of the fucking country. We haven’t had an arcade for the last 6 years. We were running console tournaments since waaaaaay back and our entire region got dogged for only doing console tournaments. We originated that shit when the rest of you cats up north and in the west were still going to arcades every day. We always heard “You won’t be taken seriously if you play on consoles!!!”. So we started getting cabs and mix them up with consoles and we heard no complaints until now. Now that all the arcades are gone we’re hearing “You won’t be taken seriously unless it’s on console.” We can’t make everybody happy.

I KNOW I’m not the only person who remembers all the times people here have said shit like “Don’t blame the sticks!” and all kinds of crazy shit back in the day so hearing this shit now is hilarious.

And DSP, as an old school player, I’m suprised you aren’t sitting here praising the fact that FR does both console and arcade. You can sit here and say you didn’t take ST serious at ECC11 cause of whatever, or people won’t take this or that seriously cause it’s on arcades and that’s fine. You’re completely entitled to that. I hope to see you but if you don’t like how we do it and it’s that big of a deal, then pay us no mind and stay your ass at home. If you want to have a good time, come down to the A. Either way, leave the negativity out of this thread cause this subject is tired. Larry stated how he was going to do it and that includes having cabs. That’s how it’s gonna be.

See you guys at Final Round X.

I know people are just stating their opinions, but I thought my last few post said it all.

1st. I understand why people want to play on console now instead of some random guy’s cab. Hell I own the white showcase cab and it still doesn’t feel like (BIG MOMMA!) "my Mas stick.

IMO if you have the means to get the arcade perfect version of the game then why not play on it? I can’t make the joysticks feel like everyone personal joystick. Sorry, but that’s one trick I don’t know. What I can do is try to make sure every cab is working properly for whatever game is being played.

The following games will be on cab unless some of my friends see all of this bitchin about their cab’s not working and decide not to lend me shit this year are as followed:

3S
A3
ST
and maybe NGBC if the NC guy bring it down hopefully.

I hope this doesn’t detour people from attending FRX, but I have to be true to the vision I have for FRX. I know the arcade scene is pretty much dead in the USA. How do I know you ask? Because it’s been dead in the southeast for atleast 5-6 years. Everyone talked shit about me and FR for years. I get on IRC one day about 4 years ago trying to promote FR5 and this is what happen from what I remember:

Shinblank- hey anyone coming to FinalRound down in the ATL?
1st random person- what’s the date and where?

2nd random person- don’t worry about going to that tournament. It’s just some bullshit console tournament.

1st random person-Oh really? It’s console tournament. That’s ok man. I’ll pass.

That was the mind set on console tournaments 4 years ago. Yes it’s a different time now and I know that, but it’s funny how people embraced console now since most of the USA has sadly caught up to the southeast region in wack ass arcades scene. IMO there is no right or wrong way to run a tournament when choosing between arcade or console. I used console’s back in the day because we didn’t have an arcade to throw a big tournament. Now it’s a different story and i’m getting dissed for having cab’s? Why didn’t anyone have my back on consoles back in the day?

AND NOW WE HAVE COME TO THIS:
It’s 4 years later and now FinalRound won’t be taken seriously because some of the games will be held on arcade cab’s instead of console’s? WTF? I’m confused because 4 years ago I was told the opposite and finalround has grown in respect and size due to added the arcade cab’s with the console’s.

If my choice of having 3S, ST, and A3 on the cab’s instead of console keeps anyone from attending FRX then i’m sorry. I hope everyone that posted their displeasures with the cab VS. console issue will attend FRX, but if you don’t attend FRX I will totally understand. I’m not rich and I don’t have any sponsership for FinalRound. I pay for this out of my pocket’s and I use vacation time to throw this tournament every year. Luckly I have great friends that help and pitch in with lending me their TV’s, Console’s, Cab’s, and help run FR also. I stress every year to try and make each FR better than the last event, but all I hear is bitchin, bitchin, bitchin and more bitch. I can’t win for losing. I wonder why I even try sometimes. I hope this doesn’t piss some of my friends off, because if it does they’ll prolly won’t bring their cab’s to FRX. Then i’ll be forced to make it all console.

P.S.-this is the last time I will speak on this subject.

I think you guys need to take a step back and realize that nobody is attacking you or insulting you. We all appreciate what you do organizing and running a MAJOR SF event like Final Round, especially me who ran ECC and multiple smaller tournaments in my time. So please, stop getting pissed off.

The whole idea of the argument was to let you know that all that time, money, effort etc. to get those cabs to Final Round is, when it comes down to it, NOT needed…the majority of serious players would be just as happy with final round, if not MORE happy, if you saved a few bucks and put it on console, allowing them to use their own controls/sticks.

Period.

If you make the decision to put it on cabinets, that’s not going to effect MY decision to come. I want to come either way, it’s just an issue of money and time/time off of work. But I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to make it out there. I had a great time last year and I’ve told everyone I talk to the same.

DAMN, trying to argue to make shit EASIER for you and cut you a break because thats what the majority of serious gamers want, and you take it the wrong way. Way to take something positive and twist it negative :looney: Please stop being so defensive!

I like the re-vamp of the site , looks nice.

Sooooooo, are we gonna IGNORE a Super Puzzle Fighter tournament for FRX? I’d really appreciate it if I could actually get an answer.

Larry, this isn’t a arcade/console issue, but it is about sticks.

I used Happ 360’s up until a few monts ago, for the last 6 or more years. There is an ‘old’ and ‘new’ version of the 360’s, and they act totally different in a gameplay respect. The ‘new’ versions suck total shit. The corners are TINY, smaller than a worn Happ Competition, but the ‘old’ versions were golden, they had decent sized corners and smoother ‘360’ rotation.

That is probably why people still bitched, besides the fact than any SF player can bitch endlessly.

From my experience in building sticks and fucking with cabs for about 10 years now, I think the old 360 is the best, followed closely by the Happ Comp stick, then the new 360 isn’t worth playing on overall. That’s just another opiinion tho A new Happ Comp isn’t my first choice by any means, but I think it’s the most fair middle ground, plus they are cheap, and if all your buddies are cool with everone agreeing on putting those in their cabs for the tourney and let everyone know when it’s decided that “THESE UNIFORM CONTROLS will be in all cabs”

Hell, I’ve got a bunch of em laying around, and I’ll be gald to donate new ones for FR’s sake. It’s the least I could do for the great time I’ve had at past FR’s.

I know I want to be competitive at ST no matter what, so if a certian control set is decided upon, I will make a stick and practice on that stick in that game. It’s not like people can’t prepare if they don’t know what’s coming.

Anyway, keep up the good work, can’t wait to see you guys this year.

Tad, Tennessee Crew

Consider it brought. It just a matter of supergun(with Sanwas) or a full cab(with super 8’s or 360’s).
