qft. larry, haven’t met you personally yet but all the md/va peoples and jay tell me how great fr9 was. i say just stick with what you have planned, having to adjust between two different versions of one game mid tourney is the worst thing that could happen. all console, or all arcade. i’m down for the arcade tourney myself, not too many of those nowadays, and having 3s on cab at FR is what makes FR unique, imo.

hah, well I played on dubcab even before MGL and its just really the best way to play. i guess i just think if you are going to a tourney you should expect to be there ALL DAY anyway. whats the rush? get some casual in and chill w/ people.
Well i’ll have to ask eli and adam if we can use their cab this year. I haven’t talked to them since we took the cabs to their parents crib.

It would suck to force someone that’s been playing on the arcade version all day during the tournament to play on console just because they lost a coin flip and vice versa. That would be some bullshit.
The main thing I try to capture at any finalround tournament is that old school tournament enviroment/feeling. To mix console with arcade is fine as long as you make it one or the other, but you can’t have both for the same tournament. I could put some casual stations for 3s on console, but that will slow down the tournament also. There’s been plenty of times i’ve been looking for someone to play their match, but they wanted to finish the casual match or they wasn’t responding to their name because they was playing in casual. I would hate to DQ someone over casual play, but it will be done.
I have a question for everyone that worries about how long the tournament can last.
Have any of you guy’s been in an 3S tournament that was the following:
best 2 out of 3 double elimination and have over 100 people entered? It takes time people. Alot of time. Hell most of the time is spent looking for people to play their match. Most people are walking around the hotel or playing in other tournament games and can’t get their match in because of playing in multiple games. Long times are apart of big tournaments sir. I remember some charlotte tournaments at mindboggle ending at 12 midnight and that had 40-60 peeps
hey larry, any word on the FR9 DVD? i basically want to see my match vs jwong in cvs2. since i don’t have it recorded, i was hoping that somebody else could upload it to youtube or put it up somewhere. but if it’s being saved for the DVD, then i’d like to know some details on that (although i don’t want to buy a DVD for the only 2/3 set i want to see).

I’ve been coming since FR8. You and the guys do a great job. I think that the whole tourney should be just console. That way people can play with their pad or stick. This way no one can complain. No one will be able to say it was the machine’s fault. I like the idea of keeping things old school by keeping the cabs around. Maybe you can keep the cabs against one wall. That way everyone can line up and go play casuals. If someone doesn’t respond to their name because of causal, well, shouldn’t that be their bad?
people will still complain that it’s only console and not the “true” arcade version. doesn’t matter to me I use a sanwa but I can play on a 360 just fine. shit i can play on ANYTHING
blah blah blah. get as many arcade cabinets as possible. very rare now a days to have them. make final round what it is. of not all will be on cabinet. just the ones that matter again like last year like 3s.
3S will be arcade version for the tournament and i’ll try to have some casual stations for console.

Arcade machines for every game you can get em Larry. Epsilon said it best when he was talkin about Uniformity. Cabs are the greatest. You don’t have to worry about pausing, every stick is the same and wont short out controller ports. There are just too many reasons why Cabs are better. Just get a couple of casual matches in and then you’ll be ok. I don’t get to play on cabs at all but I can still pull off my shit. NC has no real arcades and only very few people even have a working cab (Jose, Eddie, Tony). Holla!

Maybe we should bring the NGBC cab, since the load times on PS2. uHaul some gear down to ATL!
