Makoto Video Thread/Match Critiques

You can use an iphone with internet access, has an upload feature built in.

Please don’t. The quality would suck.
The best way is to buy an acquisition card for the pc and attach one of the xbox outputs to the pc. A vga splitter can also be used.

The quality is plenty good enough for match critiquing lol

i dont have an iphone anyway… but can i just use a vga splitter without the aqui card? or do i need both

HD-PVR. Runs you 200 but it’s a HD recorder, so you can take component cables and run them through the box to record your matches. Doesn’t lag your TV either (it will lag your PC as it records on your PC, so I wouldn’t suggest playing off your recording).

You can view my vids to see the quality of what you can expect. My vids are completely unedited from the recording.

djHuoushen, I checked out some of your new vids on your channel, I really liked your use of block strings into oroshi or sweep in this match

that abel definitely didn’t see the karakusa coming at the end because you always did an overhead or a sweep at the end of your block strings very smart play good sir. I noticed in general you play Makoto a lot differently from most people, you seem to play very safe with her with a lot of counter attacks and stuff instead of constant pressure and tsurugis.

well i guess im not going to be posting mine up then…oh well

The only problem with the pressure string is someone can throw out a DP or grab between sMP and EX Oroshi. I’ve lost a fight to EX Messiah once like that. Plus that one, I blow the U1 transition from Karakusa hard. I lucked out on some parts too.

If anything I suffer from random internet player syndrome. I expect randomness to fly out of the screen. I also ate a lot of damage I shouldn’t have in that fight. Eventually, I want to get to a comfort zone of mixing the superb pressure that some of the better Mak players have with my err to caution to break away from pressure. I don’t think my way is wrong, but I just want time to make it better.

WTB TIME.

I don’t think your way is wrong either. It’s cool to see everyones different way of playing Makoto.

i would like some tips on how my makoto is what i should stop and what i should do more…im a beginner but im packing up things pretty quickly…

You can’t tell from that game, but if you always play like this against good players then you need work on everything. You jumped a million times, and got away with them as well, Jumping is a solid risk to get some high damage, but it’s best used sparsely for big damage combos, you’re obviously too predictable when jumping that much. You switched sides and had little control of zoning because of your jumping most of the time too, this is what happens when you jump too much, but in that game it was a non-factor.

A Good player can hold their ground. If the other player jumps, they’ll AA, Fukiage, S.MP, S.MK, C.MK or Jump AA and lastly dash to the other side. The pressure you create by being able to control the zone all around you makes it harder for the other player to get damage, and they get punished for every bad risk they take. They Srk, you’re on the ground ready to punish, but if you jump you get hit all the time and can never punish.

From there, you make calculated risks to get in, KD and start your wakeup game. You’re new though, just keep learning her combos and all the basics.

What does KD Mean? And yeah i just started from doing the basics i just learned how to do ultra 2 but now i have trouble learning the reset combo and timing of it… is there video of it being guided through?

KD = Knockdown. As for the Ultra 2 combo, there’s no real timing to it, just hold up and she’ll jump, then MK Tsurugi, EX Hayate.

thank but i meant the timing for the reset combos ultra 2 is a peice of cake for me.

Here’s 2 matches, first against Zangief and second against Sagat.

I’m not sure if the Lariat beats her Tsurugi or I’m doing it way too early. I’ll have to check it. Anyways. advice is appreciated.

Oh you mean like EX Hayate, f+LK in the corner? It’s easier on some characters than others, against Ryu/Ken it feels like a 1-framer, but against Honda/Chun feels like you’ve got forever to hit them.

yea the reset with the F+LK … Tryin to go on youtube and find some guides now for them.hopefully i can.

F.lk is a 2 frame link. The harder link is lp hayate/lp fukiage. The timing is when they are about to fall downwards after they’ve been knocked upwards and back in the corner if that makes sense. There’s an advanced combo video around showing all or most of her combos. Made by level-up I think.

I’ve really been in a rut lately and I feel like my moves have gotten stale and predictable. Can some of you guys give me some pointers?

I’ve picked up a lot of bad habits while playing Makoto, and I’m getting really repetitive. What do you guys think? Got any GOOD habits that I should learn?

don’t use Tsurugi so much, specially as an air to air attack, it sucks for it’s intended purpose. try to limit it to fireball jump-overs & pressuring grounded opponents

don’t let up on pressure, you’re just letting people get up, WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT!!?? stay in their face, even if you’re just gonna block. if you back dash it takes away all pressure, stay on top of them.

karakusa a lot more, this is her only real threat to most opponents (jumping MK -> land -> Karakusa) learn to love that setup, works as a cross over too. if you dash out on opponents wake-up, try dashing back in with an EX karakusa, or even the normal HK karakusa, forward HK works sometimes too…once they start dodging your Karakusa start using the crouching LK -> LP Hayate combo, or you can start with this combo & then start playing with the Karakusa

learn the spacing of your normals, you whiffed a lot of attacks you shouldn’t have
poke a lot more, you aren’t poking at all…stick those MP’s out there

Fuikage…yes, it actually has it uses some times. i saw a couple of opportunities where you could have used the LP Fuikage -> HP Fuikage -> Tsurugi/EX-Hayate combo (you can’t let these chances just slip by, with Mak one chance might be the only thing you get)

this is just my opinion, but forget Ultra-2 even exists, stick to 1
