Finally was able to put in some time with Ultra this weekend and I’m liking what Mak is capable of, it is just taking time to get used to all the other character’s buffs and the new characters. These are somethings that happened to me this weekend:
Ultra 2 nerf! We all knew it was there, but when I tried to do it against a Gouken earlier, it got stuffed by his crouching strong I believe. Only issue is that there was no animation or sound (I might not have noticed due to beer drinking). It just got stuffed straight up and the match just continued. Towards the end of the match I was wondering why I couldn’t ultra 2 his fireballs and near the end I realized I didn’t have an ultra to use. I had to go back to watch the replay to confirm that it got stuffed. The ultra name came up in the bar. I can’t recall any other character having something similar, but I’m sure it exists, I’m just not use to having it happen with Mak.
Ex-Fuki is great, but I sometimes have issues hitting it online. Still not used to the motion. EX-Hayate doesn’t come out anymore, but I’m getting F+HP quite a bit on accident.
Anyone else sticking with W Ultra? I’m really not finding a need to go to a specific one unless except for a few certain characters (Boxer, Dictator, Claw, Gief & Hawk). The Ex-Fuki is great in making up the difference when I can get it working.
New characters are bit interesting. They all seem to cause me some issue when I can’t figure out how to punish stuff. A Poison mauled me once she got me in the corner. FB, cr. MK maybe and ex-rekkas. Elena’s limbs are nice! I only say this cause I’m trying to learn her. Rolento is annoying. Hugo… how does a giant have such a strange hitbox? I got ultra’d a few times because cr. MK didn’t hit as an anti-air. Decapre’s DP … wow.
Finally, one of my biggest issues is remember that DP-FADC Towards is no longer safe for people. I’ve been so used to just blocking/taking a throw.
Oh yeah, before I forget… n.HP,s.HK, RFA, etc. n.HP,s.HK …whaaa? I am apparently late to the party, that links? Counterhit?
Going on record to say Hugo is a nightmare for makoto just like in 3rd strike, anyone find any interesting strats in this match up?
Figuring out that st lk to st mk target combo is a great poke against him great for whiff punishing too but it’s very risky to os it with anything unless you’re sure it’s gonna connect
That air grab he has is nasty so jumping around like a maniac may not be the best bet. I also got burned via his ultra 2 by jumping back. Generally I have been using hit and run tactics and using command HP to whiff punish when possible. I use ultra 2 exclusively to punish him for abusing certain moves. c.HK has also worked at a certain range.
Any other ideas welcome. In the corner I panic hard against those claps.
I use W Ultra in every match I previously picked U2 in, and stick with U1 on the ones I picked it in before. Solo U2 is more or less obsoleted by W Ultra IMO.
Speaking of Ultra W, I started taking that for Decapre just to counter her Ultra 1…bad idea. Unless I did it poorly, she recovered fast enough to block and I landed on the ball of pain.
I felt the same way until I came across good hugos lol. His claps have really good reach and frame advantage with very little recovery even though they have massive start up, if done with the right spacing it’s not an issue for him. He can play outside of her footsie range really well and when you get knocked down… just put down the stick lol
See it’s funny I feel like with the system changes and the nerf to U1 that U2 has become new viable. With RFC if does more damage and now that she does more damage with ex fuki, I don’t really see the advantage of it any more except for low stamina characters
I think i fought maybe one so far that made me respect his range. I guess if he has a good feel for what your going for or if he is just really good at putting Mak in the corner the matchup will change really quick.
when I see him with his jump ultra I am always trying to bait him to use it, so that i can take that tool away from him.
