Makoto does not lose Ultra meter if U2 is stuffed during start up. Against Poison, delay hitting j.FP after EX Fukiage. You want j.FP to hit as you’re falling from the jump.
After s.HPxxHayate HP our beloved command grab connects without the mini-kara, do a simple HK Karakusa after it. Maybe the pushback of fierce Hayate is different, check it out.
Probably a lot of new 4 bar super stun combos and mixups with RFA. If I had a console I would just start testing new stuff in the lab… guess I am really am too lazy to crunch the numbers…
Rolento had been giving me a lil trouble last night but I’m starting to figure him out, tsurugi blows up his wake-up options. He has good jump in buttons, cr mk has been getting stuffed our trading, gonna add his jump ins to the blanka/vega category
She’s way better than she was before, in my opinion. EX Fuki was the biggest buff any character got in Ultra - 1 successful left/right/Karakusa/Tsurugi mixup after an EX Fuki reset and you pretty much just stunned the majority of the cast right then and there for maybe 2 bars. The only nerf she really got was the -3 on LK\MK Tsurugi, and people blew that way out of proportion; the only matchups the change really affects are the grapplers in my opinion, who you didn’t want to use the move on already anyway. DP’ing after a blocked Tsurugi in hopes of it being a LK or MK one is too much of a risk, especially considering the universal -5 DP FADC change. People also forget about the j. MK buff - having a decently reliable crossup adds another dimension to Makoto’s offense.
On top of that, Makoto was already primarily centered on continuing pressure after HP Hayate and from soft knockdowns off EX Tsurugi and EX Hayate. EX Oroshi and backthrow setups will suffer because of DWU, but due to EX Fuki and her poor defense I think DWU helps her a lot more than it hurts her.
She was already a top 15 character before. I wouldn’t be surprised to see her in the top 7 (or even higher) this time around.
Actually, I’ll second what Noocta said. It did work in ae 2012. On some characters, if you did mk karakusa fast enough after st.hp xx hp hayate, you could catch them with that as well. Might be worth checking out in this version as well.
Has anyone else noticed how AMAZING the ex oroshi buff is?
It seems to hit juggled opponents about as well as an ex tsurugi, BUT you get a delicious hard knockdown, creating great opportunity for meaty setups.
So while our old corner combo of choice (ex hayate -> lp fuki -> ex tsurugi) still does the most damage, we now have the option of getting a hard knockdown in the corner instead. which I think we can all warmly welcome. Try a combo into ex fuki -> mp fuki -> ex oroshi in the corner and see how fresh that hard knockdown feels
Here’s a vid I made demonstrating it. Sorry for the potato.
On that note, EX Hayate > LP Fukiage > EX Oroshi works now as well, though the timing felt a bit tight to me.
The main draw of this new ability is being able to run post-EX Oroshi setups in the corner without sacrificing a lot of damage, but with DWU I’m not certain how useful they’ll be.
