Makoto Ultra SFIV

Axekick nerf is really big tho. It’s like making burnkicks or air jaguarkick unsafe. It’s gonna changes the way we play a lot for Makoto players who are big tsurugi users.

EX Fuki is only as good as the time you can combo into it, and medium axekick was a very important option for us to land those combos.

It’s really not. From what everyone has been complaining about on the forums I can tell that you’re all overusing Tsurugi anyway. Distance matters in relation to how unsafe something is too. The argument that Haitani is the only Makoto we see placing high at EVO works against you guys too. Even with Makoto having all of these tools you’re still not placing anywhere near as high as him even though the character is the same. Why do you think that is? You aren’t using the tools she has in the right way. The same can be said of any Makoto player really, including me. Really it’s my own weaknesses as a player that stop me from placing, not the character. That’s the reality. There is nothing stopping any of you from placing high with Ultra Makoto except yourselves. Get into the same mode I’m in right now: Get Better.

Another thing I want to add is the difference between picking a character you like vs. trying to win. That’s a choice you have to make as a player. There is nothing stopping any of you from tier whoring and learning the cheapest, easiest, and most effective strategies that win you games. This includes easy 50/50 mixups, counter picking, option selects, etc. You chose to play Makoto, fully knowing no one but Haitani is really placing in tournaments. You can’t honestly tell me that you guys thought you were going to win even most of your games. She’s an advanced character. It’s going to require an advanced player to win with her consistently. If you’re sticking with her understand this, accept it, realize that Makoto isn’t the weak link: you are. This is the first step in years of frustration and plateau breaking you’re going to have to confront. You either accept it or you don’t.

Is it just me who find her better than in AE? :o

Karakusa nerf is beyond irrelevant. You already die if you whiff a Karakusa anyway so who gives a shit.

U1 damage nerf sucks but it’s not exactly a game changer. We’ll be more than able to make up for it with the EX Fuki buff.

U2 nerf is bad but let’s be real, that Ultra has always been kinda bullshit. It’s almost Super Rose U2 status in some matchups. We have some better defensive options to compensate for its loss tho.

Tsurugi nerf is bad. No arguing this, this one hurts. But it’s not gonna be enough to knock Mak into bottom tier or anything. We still get huge payoff for landing it, we just gotta be more careful with it against 3 frame DPs.

J.mk buff is being overlooked. A consistent crossup is gonna do a LOT for us guys. This single buff was a good part of what made Sakura so much stronger coming out of Vanilla. Now that we have a legit crossup threat that isn’t party of some convoluted crossup Tsurugi setup folks will have to think a lot harder about what’s coming next.

And besides, LET people mash DP out of the Fuki resets, I don’t give a shit. Even with meter they’re eating another one and they’re back into the blender, and now they have the fear of God put into en.

We. Will. Be. Fine. Hell I still think she’s gonna be top five, fuck the police.

Although I’m frustrated about the changes I plan on working through them. I generally do not switch characters based on balance nerfs. As always the community will work together and dig up new options.

Not to mention the fact that Capcom will probably have more “knee jerk” balancing in store for us in 2014. It’s not impossible that they would port the games to ps4/xb1 and slap us with some more tweaks. Once people dig into the new game mechanics all sorts of weird stuff is going to start cropping up.

Everyone will probably have to wait until release to get a chance to play and see for themselves. I think impressions of the character will change as we figure out how to play the new Makoto. Did you get a chance to see how much better the j.mk crossup has become?

I really want to see how much Better that cross up is. Maybe it’s only a minor change.

Well I agree entirely, except for the top 5 thing. The way you have to think for competitive play is that “I’m good enough to make her look S Tier”.

And god will I ever. Also Tier whoring as a secondary is always a good idea. TeeHee

Whenever I try to place Makoto, the same situation always pops up. She has the tools to take out any character in the game, but the player vs player adjustments are what those tools depend on. I like to think of her in a potential range, rather than an exact number.

It’s exactly why I found her placement on the eventhubs tier list amusing. She wasn’t even in the top 20. I agree with most of the match ups on that chart, but I feel her character is probably top 10 in terms of overall potential.

better than top 10 imo

It’s you, me, and jiggly against the world I guess

In the USF4 mod, you can jump HP in front, and re jump immediately and hit a jMK cross up, it’s a bit crazy. I doubt it’s gonna be this good.

yes, but sagat usually does it into tiger shot, which is safe. quite a difference.

yeah i think adjustment is going to be key for this

you could always link it into itself as a ghetto confirm as well

My only question is… would U2 be beaten by Ibuki’s kunai now (at startup)? Since the kunai not considered a “projectile”.

I play her since Super too and I play SF since '91,but that doesn’t mean anything.

Her damage/stun output is bigger,no doubt, but she’s also less solid as a character. That’s my opinion.

Whatever, maybe I need to test her myself before giving a final judgement,so let’s working on what we have.

Well, what we have atm? Tsurugi problem. So how we can avoid it? The V-Ryu idea seems the better, use the HK against 3f DP characters and LK/MK versions against the rest of the cast. If j.mk is that good now we can use it more for mixup. Then we have this EX Oroshi with jp: where we can use it now?

After you anti air with Fukiage, you can do another fuki into dash EX Oroshi I guess. Probably give better Oki than ex Tsurugi.

Normal > ex fuki > medium axekick > ex oroshi has probably some use in the corner I guess
You can end a Ultra 2 with another Fuki and an EX Oroshi as well.

It means that Super was the worst iteration of Makoto. If you can deal with super Makoto, you can deal with Ultra Makoto
