Makoto Strategy and Match-ups

Yep, lp, mp and hp hayate can be punished by guile’s flash kick.

You what would you suggest to do to keep guile in block stun and stayin? LOL normals?

No, I’d pick sagat.
Joking :razzy:

Vega Match Up:

Makoto can stuff all vegas reversals with meaty MP Oroshi. Also Ultra! AND SUPER! Only thing he can do to get out of it is back dash or backflip. Highly punishable if you read your opponent!

Uh, how is Makoto even going to get the knockdown in the first place? Fishing for c.FP trades (which don’t exactly work if Guile spaces her out with Booms/normals)? Random EX Hayates (lol)? And Guile has waaaaay more options than you listed after throwing a Sonic Boom. Like, walk backwards and throw another Sonic Boom. Or jump back FK to outrange your jump in while still creating space. Or not do anything and hold d/b until you do something. Plus, you do know that knockdown Tsurugi’s are ground techable, right?

And when you have to say “you just have to guess right” as part of your plan, you pretty much just lost cause that requires you to take a gamble. And Guile doesn’t need to gamble to win.

And I’m being really generous when I think Mak/Guile is 3-7 while other better Makoto players think it’s more along the 2-8 lines.

Yea he can obviously walk back and do more booms. The problem is once I’m in range to make him guess no matter what.

Guile = Zoning/Footsies and solid fundamentals.
Makoto = Gamble for days. . .she has other tools obviously but she has to gamble.

So when she’s in her ideal range and Guile is like ok I’mma throw a boom and react to whatever she does and I put an Axe kick on the screen chances are we’re gonna trade with me knocking him down. Then he’s gonna HAVE to guess on what I’mma do while he’s on his back. Yes it’s super annoying and the match up is definitely in her favor but Makoto can change matches in a split second once she’s in on you unless you’re rushing her down with a god like reversal to back your ass up.

I’m not saying OMG she rapes Guile, I’m saying the match is much more winnable than the Rufus match up rofl.

lol i have way more luck vs rufus than vs guile. i never seem to get into axe kick range vs the family man unless he just plain fucks up. then again i also played rose vs rufus in vanilla and that shit was almost identical to the garbage makoto has to put up with.

I don’t think you understand the Makoto/Guile fight at all. GUILE DOES NOT HAVE TO GUESS TO WIN, which is the whole point behind his so-called “solid fundamentals”. It’s YOU who has to guess to win; Guile can just force your hand and react to whatever you do. And didn’t you read that you can ground tech Tsurugi’s that knock down, even if you trade (in which case, you’re back to square one)? Let’s not forget that Tsurugi is Focus Attack bait as well so you can’t rely on trades all the time. Oh, and also smart Guile players will keep you out of your “ideal” range or will do things like walk backwards/backdash to make your Tsurugi whiff and you get punished on landing. And Guile doesn’t have to guess when he’s on his back if he’s got 2 meters; the threat of Flash Kick FADC (or hell, even regular old Flash Kick or EX Flash Kick alone) will make you think twice about doing her so-called guessing game on his wakeup; you can’t bait it out like your normal run-of-the-mill Shoryuken; the horizontal range on it is too large for Makoto to effectively try to backdash bait it (not to mention the fact that her backdash sucks as well).

And speaking of “godlike” reversals to back your ass up, Guile happens to have one. Hi Mr. Flash Kick, how are you doing today?

And Rufus vs. Makoto is much more easier to deal with than Guile vs. Makoto.

Guile… the new Sagat… not broke… just boring beyond belief to watch or play against. I agree with Ninja. You HAVE to gamble against Guile. Otherwise, he’ll just boom all day or crouch all day waiting for a flashkick.

That reminds me, what is to prevent guile from just sitting there for a flash kick? I’ve been trying to hit him out of it or trade with him. ANYTHING. Flash kick has “For Makoto” written all over it.

Ok. I don’t care if the match up is 2-8 I would still fight him with her because I believe in myself  Don’t care if it’s the best Guile in the world I will fight him with what I got no matter how god like his reflexes and no matter how the odds are stacked up because I believe I can still beat Guile on his best day. Besides all I need is those 2 matches, he can win the 8 later in casuals

Haha, I gotta remember that one for future use.

gdlk.

I didn’t think makoto could win against half the SSF IV cast until I watched mok11bk (makoto) vs daigo with ryu on youtube. Then I saw NinjaCW in action on june 26th at a tourny and witnessed fear in everyone. I think every1 there did not want to play against ninjacw knowing he will pick makoto and will somehow get next to you and YOU WILL have to guess if makoto going for a overhead tsurugi or mp or a hayate cancel to karakusa. Now Im back in training with makoto and so far my worst matchups is against vega(claw) and abel. My friend has been using rufus since sf4 came out and I have learned how to bait and punish him over time so I wld rather play rufus or guile over claw and abel anyday.

Self-confidence doesn’t win matches; if it did, everyone would be a winner.

against Dudley
so focus is actually able to PUSH spacing far enough to make ex kara doesnt grab?
great…

I would say that it is the dash that makes the EX Karakusa whiff. It happens to me several times with Focus lvl2 to dash and Dragon Punch -> FADC too. It seems like dashing forward has some airborne frame ?

A lack of confidence loses matches though. Let’s not start a flame war on the topic. If you plan on continuing to play Makoto, just work on improving yourself so that you can handle Guiles who try to play ultra safe. Key word is try though, as you should do your best to punish said ‘safe’ play. If you can’t figure it out immediately, just put in some work to make it happen.

Personally I’m not worried about the Guile match up as much as a few other matches, only because online has Guiles who turtle and boom by the buckets. There’s only one Guile I haven’t beat yet that I have played, and I am pretty sure I could beat him if I didn’t make a few mistakes I need to correct.

not sure if the dask makes it airborne, since normal grabs can throw dash in, but a command grab cannot.

I like to hear more of dis shit. People dont believe in her thats you you losing. Mak can change the game in seconds…trust:rofl:

For instant. MIKE ROSS! HE PLACES WITH HONDA!!! COME ON DAWG! YOU GOT TO BELIEVE!!!

Ok Rufus runs Makoto into the ground and she has NO reversal for him to worry about. Not one bit, and then to make it worse I can’t rush him down as effectively because of EX Messiah. Though I do have ways of baiting it and punishing it hard those are mainly on wake up. Other than that though he just rushes her into the floor without putting anything life threatening on the table.

Once again I’m not saying Guile is a walk in the park, I’m just saying I have yet to fight a Guile that I felt completely helpless.

The last thing needed to be said. . .
Don’t bother going around behind my back saying how bad I truly am at the game blah blah. Never once have I claimed to actually be good. I have just been playing the game and trying to get better. All of the hate I got from when I was at Devastation was hilarious because not one time did I proclaim to be better than I was and all of you was in IRC bashing me while trying to break down how I’m winning. Or even keeping it close for that matter.
So until I actually proclaim to be good at something don’t jump the gun with bashing me over the internet when I’m NOT around, could at trash talk me where I can see it.

On topic though
Not sure how good it is yet but for the most part against Balrog when you knock him down. After a c.FP or EX Chop you can Tsurugi past him and it seems all of his reversals whiff. After headbutt depending on range you can sweep or c.mp xx hayate/EX Hayate.
