Makoto Strategy and Match-ups

Meaties beat electricity, it’s just that Blanka wakes-up weird so you have to time it differently. If I land a cr.HP, I follow up with dash x1, cr.LK (whiff), meaty s.MP strings. If you land an EX-Oroshi, do the same thing but dash twice.

How do you get past it hitting you then?

There’s a small start-up for electricity. If you do the meaty right, then you connect before electricity even starts. It’s kinda like stuffing 3 frame jabs.

You mean if he’s just sitting there spamming electricity? Well, one thing to remember is that you can still hit him, but you have to make sure Makoto’s body doesn’t touch any part of the electricity. It’s been like this since SF2, I believe. The problem is that most of Mak’s normals don’t reach very far or she lunges with her limbs. If you can space it correctly, use cr.MP, but you have to make sure you’re only tagging Blanka with the tip of her hand. Otherwise, wait until he stops.

Really close: s.MP/throw

Beats wake up EX Rainbow Ball
c.LP > OS s.LP/LP Hayate
c.LP > OS c.LP/EX Fuki
c.LP > OS c.LP/c.HK

If you dont or forget to OS the Rainbow ball, c.MK beats it if they decide to attack with it. DONT focus it if its reversal.

As they’ve said ANY ball ever does is punishable, on block AND hit if you have meter. It gets even worse in the corner for him if he does unsafe stuff.

Preferred normal Anti Air as is the case in most/all matches is c.MK. I cant count how many times I’ve lost bc I conditioned myself to believe that s.MP rules the sky. lol. I think Im finally conditioned to c.MK everything out of LP Fuki range.

As far as hop shenanigans go, I try to catch them on the recover of it w/ c.LP or something. Its not hard to react to (offline lol), but the tricky part is NOT reacting tooo fast, bc if you react and attack too fast, he will hop past you and recover before you do.

If the Blanka is down on life by a significant amount, they will almost always look for forward throw to set up ambiguous UC1. That along with hop > UC1.

And yes watch out for Wake up Ultra!
Makoto (Queen of meaties, no homo) + Blanka (King of Wake up Ultras) = Potential trouble for Mak lol.

I’ve been wondering why Blanka players are more predisposed to wakeup ultra than most other players. Do that many people really not know how to block his ultra?

No offense to Blanka players, but I think it’s because the general users of Blanka on XBL are pretty bad at the game, regardless of PP or BP. Relying on random is in their natures.

Blanka in itself is pretty random. Ive seen some Makoto players get bodied by Seth, you guys think we could discuss that matchup for a while?

Yeah I’m curious I don’t have many seth in my Area whats the best way to deal wityh the meaty fire ball teleport set up .

focus attack the sonic boom, then dash once you see the side where Seth is.

I think one of the main things people need to understand vs Seth, is that he DOESNT have a safe way to get in, he always has to take risks to do so. So he will try to do small gimmicks like wall jump or random divekicks. If you can punish those you’ve done half of the job.

If he wall jumps, don’t fukiage, a well-timed s.MP will beat both straight jump attack and dive kick.
Be careful about the tanden engine trap, but be aware that this move has insane recovery so if you can catch him doing this with a jump in, gg!
Makoto is one of the few characters that can backdash his shoryuken without getting hit, so bait away.
Understand his set ups - there are plenty of Poongko videos that people xcopy. EX karakusa his jump into low string, if he fadc his fireball 99% of the time he will teleport behind you so block the crossup.

This is very true. Kara EX Fukiage eats his breakfast. So no jump shenanigans. If he stays on the ground he can only use Boom and the long arms. But if you block the long arms, you can hit him with EX Hayate CH, so 2 dashes later (4 if he doesn’t tech) and he’s in the corner against MAKOTO, a girl who can take 400 life per mistake. Normally it wouldnt’ be a big deal but for seth that’s twice lmao. Oh and U2? What can he do once you have u2? You can U2 booms when they’re halfway across the screen hahahaha. Long arms? Please. jump? done son. like what options does he have once you have U2? anyone?

Also, Makoto dominates the mid range vs Seth, thanks to her amazing normals, Seth has either 2 options: back off/teleport back (he corners himself) or try to apply pressure by taking a big gamble.

Still Seth’s mixup game is REALLY scary and very effective, the FA backdash Os works well vs him, but dont abuse because he has a command grab. I’d say this is prob like a 5-5 or 5.5 - 4.5 in mak’s favor, Makoto can kill seth in 3 combos, but Seth can have her guessing the whole round if he wants, but he needs more hits to kill her. If mak is aware of all her options vs Seth id say she has the advantage.

Yeah he has to be very careful, especially if he doesnt’ fear EX Kara and tries c.LK or late crouch tech on wake up. If he does, and commits to Neutral jumping then Mak’s crouch tech/whiff c.lk OS LP Fuki wrecks his shit bad. 5.5 for Mak is about right.

What about Abel? this guy is so dumb to fight … i do ok until i block which is often that i rock the down back lol… i just get rocked by him . i dunno how to approch the match
