Makoto AE 2012: the nerfage

That’s an incredibly astute observation Mossad, and it’s completely on point. Was it the 950 health that kept her from being good in Super? HELL NO!!! It was her inability to do damage. Thankfully, that shit was left intact.

Your theory also points to why the twins were hit with the nerf bat so hard, yet Fei got out relatively unscathed. Yun deserved most of the changes, but I think Yang’s were pretty drastic. All because the outcry to nerf the twins (when it really should have mostly been Yun) was so damn loud.

Hopefully, her health nerf will quiet people down and they won’t realize that Makoto is dangerous because she can induce stun/empty life bars faster than almost every character on the roster.

Yup. Nail on the head. Capcom knows that when someone loses to Makoto its because the Makoto player made them beat theirself up. This only serves our purpose, because although she has great moves, most of the damage we cause comes from good reads. Good reads come from getting in their head. By making our competition over confident, Capcom is doing part of the work for us. Afterwards when our competitors lose and complain to Capcom, they can turn around and say “Don’t look at us!! We NERFED her just like you asked remember???”

Where i come from, we call that “Slick Hate.” This is something that Capcom is very, very good at.

I gave it some thought after crying over ex karakusa and her health decrease , I usually use ex karakusa on my wake-up and usually when they hit with any kind of move except cr MK or any other loooong range move it always grabs … 50 health is 1 heavy punch … I can live with that , but in my opinion she’ll be as good as in the AE right now ,cause the other guys go down with her (when actually she doesent go all the way down) , I’m still afraid of fei long , gief , blanka , honda … even t hawk lol … I have no idea how to deal with blanka … no clue

So … Makoto will still be an undercover threat

50 life is more than just a fierce punch. The nerf is significant. Makoto is a high risk character and could use as much life as she can get.

50 life can be the difference between KO and surviving the last combo and making a comeback. Remember combos scale on hit and life. That 50 means more as you are lower on life.

I considered the life buff her third biggest buff in AE (fukiage being first and ex-hayate being second) and the rest relatively insignificant.

I see this change as an attempt to force Makoto be a little less reckless to give opponents more time to breathe.

LP = 30 dmg
MP = 60 dmg
HP = 80 dmg

50 health is less than a medium punch.

950 is ok. If it was 900 like Fuerte’s I’d be concerned. But she can still bust out the damage/stun.

50 life does end up being a slight deal due to guts [resulting in an extra FIVE life when done in 50 pt increments and actually letting you survive 2 extra hits instead of just the one. :smiley: Highly suspect math suggests to me that the lost 50 also includes another lost 3. Oh My GOD] and obviously there’s a big difference between being dead and not as dead, but as you guys say: as far as nerfs go. Pretty…innocuous. Of course the buffs are the same thing meant to vaguely appease both sides, but yeah - I’m pretty happy with all this. The biggest buff was yun and yang EATING DIRT and frankly it feels like an early christmas!

Not if there is damage or combo scaling in effect! once you hit 75% damage scaling MP is 45dmg. :wink:

yes, and if the MP is done after the 10th hit, it does 5dmg…

you cant say “50 health is huge” because of life/combo scaling. You have to think, at the beginning of the round “ok, I’ve just got hit by a stMP…in AE, I would have start with this life”.

Health nerf, not much of a problem, didn’t stop us in Super… :expressionless:
HK buff sounds good. We didn’t lose much, but didn’t gain much either (at least that I feel would be important to me, other than the HK). So it’s pretty much evened out. We could have been hit hard but we got off pretty much unchanged.
I know someone who says Makoto deserves the nerfs, because ‘she deals too much damage and a girl shouldn’t have 1000 health’…

Also, moves are scaled after you get below a certain percentage of health as well, aren’t they?

Yeah and that’s actually where that 50 health can make a difference. You’re getting jabbed out or something and each move is doing like 8, 10, 15 damage. So Makoto could take an extra 3 or 4 hits at the end of a match. But not anymore lol. I mean, I believe that we were given the extra health as a courtesy… Its dificult to get in and we take a lot of chip. That 50 damage helped with that too. But oh well.

Guys, if capcom didnt put “950 -> 1000” in super -> AE patchnotes. Would you REALLY have noticed the difference when playing super -> AE?

In game? Nope. It is purely a superficial change IMO. Its the thought that counts :slight_smile:
