Making Your Stick Pretty: A Custom Stick Art Guide/Tutorial

Just did this as my first attempt…what do you guys think?

Can someone link me to the TTT2 template?

Under Madcatz TE stick templates.

probably a dumb question but how do you extend the artwork past the lines of the template so it “bleeds out”?
I’m using the mayflash template.

the idea is not to have the “accidental unplanned cut” look in your artwork, so if you want to use a big picture, you plan where are parts that will show and and where are parts that would be cut off
assuming you work with image editor that use layer (a freeware version would be GIMP)
by moving the layer where you put that image around pass the bleed out line “v” in photoshop or transform “ctrl+T” the size preferably to make it smaller to keep image sharp, sizing up the image as long as it is minor or when the source picture is good would still be OK, but over do it will cause either jaggy or blurry result (stock photoshop/gimp’s image rescaling algorithm sucks, you need 3rd party plugin for serious blowup, for example AlienSkin Blowup) and also keep in mind every time you resize an image it degrades its quality when unsure or still guessing the right size, always keep a copy of the unscaled image layer and try to rescale in one go.

since you use mayflash probably you’re going to print it as sticker, so an extra tips:
1.choose vinyl sticker instead of paper even when you plan to laminate it, reasons:
-paper sticker will absorb humidity/ sweat from your hand on the exposed part along the edges it will look dirty after some use,
-it will leave a huge problem to cleanup when you decide to peel it off later
2.if you choose lamination film, the more structure it has, the thicker the film, and the better it hides imperfection.
3. if you plan to use sticker on your mayflash, just stick it on top of the original face cover, reasons:
-the plastic underneath have injection marks and not smoother than the original face cover.
-when you peel that face cover it will leave a hell of glue residue, you’ll spend the next 30 minutes trying to clean that
-the face cover won’t fade or ruined when you peel off the sticker next time you want to change sticker or when you decided to sell that thing and try to make it looks stock
4. have some permanent/ waterproof makers in different colors, and paint the freshly cut sticker edge with a color that is closer to either the case (mayflash - black) or the art (you might need markers in different colors)
do that before you stick the sticker to the case, if not then you will need fine point marker to do the job, something like “Gundam” marker

oh and BTW choose the “right” mayflash template, some templates are a little bit off (1mm off)

Anyone got a link to the mayflash template?

Hello,
i’ve even started … I have had to take the idea of the colors of morrigan with pure. Unfortunately, my knowledge of gimp stop there already. Can but the design also will be completely different.

WHAT?!

Hello, sorry for my bad english. The text is translated by google.
I have the template created with gimp. Width 27.5 cm Height 21 cm. The joystick is for the Playstation 4 I got the look to a mix of morrigan and Playstation 4 or even only one of two issues.

Do you guys get your Hi-Res renders from a particular source?

Google

Ok guys newb here, I have been lurking here for a while, I have read all the tutorials and used the search function but I can’t seem to grasp this. I’m trying to put art on my mayflash f300 with just a basic nash art if someone could help me I would appreciate it. Here’s the template https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwowA912dc4VSFctZUN1SHFsQkk

Hey guys, I have a question regarding the template usage. The template ist 4500X3000. But I can’t find an artwork/wallpaper to fit so I can edit it. What’s the trick? What am I missing? Thanks you.

If you’re doing this in photoshop, press ctrl+T on the image that you want to resize and you should be able to freely resize that image to the same size as the template. another alternative is the the image resize option and you can set the dimensions you desire.

Hi! I’m new here, I’d like to take a look at the backgrounds that the author mentions, but all the links on his original posts do not go anywhere. Is there any link protection that’s preventing me from using those links? Thanks!

It seems those links are dead.

I know this is an old topic. I’m sorry. But hoped i would finally find a good tutorial for arcade stick art, especially for people with no experience in Photoshop. But apparently all links are broken.

Does anyone know about any other tutorial? I tried Google but couldn’t find anything useful.

Yeah i was watching that until he said " If you don’t know how Photoshop works in general…go watch a Photoshop tutorial"

I’d still watch the rest to get a general understanding and kind of follow along what he’s doing. Or just look up Photoshop Beginner’s tutorial, watch that and then go back to that video.

Although I guess this video might be more helpful. It goes step by step.
