Make new sprites, starting with Morrigan

king of fighters

Oops. The point is, I agree.

That’s necessarily not true. Inconsistencies can be fixed after you scan the line art. You just have to be in the same ballpark.

I do realize that the art part is the easy part. At least, it’s the easiest part, for me. But I’m not forgetting everything else.

As for hacking the dc, I’m not sure about it yet. It probably wont happen. But maybe. I’ve opened up some files on a hacked DC CvS2. I have a friend who hacks and patches like crazy on the NES and SNES, and will look into hacking for DC. He’s really into it, so who knows? He thinks it might be possible to replace the graphics for Morrigan with out changing the pre programed hit boxes, and long as I don’t the animations too much.

The most painful thing for me so far, is that I want to add more frames of animation. But I don’t think the DC CvS, or any game, is hackable to that capacity.

As for pencil art vs pixel art, I think it’s alot easier to make sprties with a pencil sketch as a guide. That’s just my style. Plus, it’s a way to keep the project fun. And the consistancy isn’t really an issue either.

Have you guys looked at any of the current Morrigan sprites? She’s changing shape all the time, doing all sort of crazy stuff, arms getting longer and shorter, etc. If anything, it would be a challange to not be as consistant as the current sprites are.

And like booda said, it isn’t hard to fix stuff after it’s scanned in. Stretch tool, re-size, and free transform.

But most importantly, I have a lot of stuff already going on in my life (like we all do). This project isn’t about giving myself another day job. It’s about trying to do something I’ve always wanted to do, for myself, and for the people. :encore:

And thanks Kataklysmic! That’s awesome.

And I agree that we should have multiple artist working on sketches, and then choose from the best.

Drawing for animation is a really interesting process. I’m now on my thirty fifth drawing, and I feel like a different artist than when I started. You get better at drawing the character very rapidly when in the process of animating, so much so that with me, my first couple of cells are already worse looking than my latest ones, so I have to go back and fix them.

Blah blah blah.

Anyway, keep the emails coming! Everyday, it looks more and more possible that this can get done.

Do you have a link (to information about it)?

Does it make a difference if it is a fighting game or not? Graphics hacks are graphics hacks, right?

oh, and Kataklysmic, do you have the rest preprodution art work sheet? It looks like that’s the top of mega man’s head at the bottom of the page.

I eat that stuff up.

Plus, just so everyone knows, I’m gonna see if this site will help. These guys seem to have pulled of some pretty crazy DC hacks.

I don’t believe so. Fighters are more complex from what I’ve personally seen. More frames and the frames are divided amongst tiles.

So… dead?

Some French guy is working on new art. Look at my avatar.

But I’m interested in this project too nevertheless.

And 2D fighters will never die as long as there is still a fanbase for them. It will probably take another company (possibly a smaller one) to wake up to that reality. (That company might be Sammy, but… wait and see.)

Look at Mugen community, plenty of people ripping sprites and modifying them. I just wish people would contribute more.

It looks like that french guy is just a sprite editor. Whereas this project was about making whole animation sets.

I could help, except I’m already way behind on my project to animate Cut Man.

I’m also not a good spriter. So I could do the line art and hopefully someone else could do the pixeling and coloring.

What resolution are we doing? How much detail should be put in?

Here. Just click on the link and check out these Secret Files.

I can’t see it happening, unfortunately. I’ve been working with sprites for years, and I consider myself one of the most capable sprite-artists of srk. The goal is just much too ambitious. I’ve seen many fan-made sprites of Morrigan, and it’s painfully obvious that practically all of them don’t reach the level of quality as say… Chun Li’s CvS2 sprites.

lol psychosquall, I just noticed your av has Prince Katamari pushing blanka ball haha. Nice.

Argeed, you need to draw and animate that shit down by hand for them to look good. It takes me like 2-4 days to do ONE GGXX style sprite. Considering that like one super can take like 20 frames or more, you’d have to pay me to work on something like that.

It could be done, you’d just have to be prepared to waste lots of time. Lots and lots of time.

I’ll probably make a GG style morrigan next though. I just need to find a really slutty pose.
