Make new sprites, starting with Morrigan

Morrigan actually has 3 Sprites.

The one you know
One in Pocket Fighter
Another for Gunbird 2, and it’s breathtakingly amazing!

And while we didn’t get a new Sprite for the MVC games, lots of stuff was added to it to make her 1/2 Lilith, plus her new revolving gun super. Not to mention Liligan.

Morrigan’s almost a lock for Sammy vs. Capcom where she’ll get a brand spanking new High Res Sprite.

So Sasquatch needs a new Sprite, Aulbath/Rikuo needs a new Sprite, but Morrigan does not!

Just messing with you. I’d be interested in seeing the results of this project!

I like this Morri sprite. (It’s not mine)

If you seriously want people to help you gotta help us out.

First we need to have a idea how the redrawn morrigan should look like.

Next we need to know how to draw it in that style.

I would recommend we use a existing base and work from there at least a existing base for the upper body, the legs can be reshaded most likely and maybe resized to look right.

you basically just need to find a person with the right stance from the cvs series if you want it to look like that.

basically a woman in a upright position (mai may or may not be a good candidate since she’s slouching) You can redo the eye lashes to look more like morrigan.

If you do make a completely remade sprite you’ll need to help the people willing to help draw it in the style you made it.

Just some suggestions, you said you came up with animations so show us.

Yeah, I almost mentioned the Gunbird sprite, but I didn’t want to sound like a nerd.

Kidding. I haven’t stopped sounding like a nerd since I first started talking, at around age 1 1/2 or so.

And I like that morrigan sprite, too! Thanks Kuro. Where did you find it? And more importantly, do you think who ever made it wants to help me make 60 or so more?

Don’t worry. I plan of doing all the drawing myself (unless, someone else really wants to do it instead). I studied animimation for four years in college, and though I’m far from the best, I think that I can do it ok by myslef. I was looking over at what I did last night, and there are a few instances where I inconsistantly drew the head too big, or the legs to long, but I can fix that.

More or less, I can do the drawing part on my own.

I’m using Morrigan’s current sprites as reference for all the drawings I’m doing, so I don’t need to use another character for a base.

I don’t want this to look like a hack job. I want it to look like what Capcom could do for Morrigan, like what they have done for Ryu.

She’ll have the same stance, and alot of the same moves. There will just be more animation, more colors, and a slightly more realistic style to the art.

Compare SFA Ryu to CvS Ryu, and you’ll see what I’m getting at.

And if you want to help, please email me.

Thanks

so where are these new sprites?

You wanna make sprites for a capcom i’ll treat you like you work there

NOBOODY WANTS THEM (not really but that is what those dumbasses at capcom say) but if you wanna waste resources and cut into our Cash cow you have 3 weeks.

sent you a email

Hey dude…sure i’ll Even add you on My MSN and talk bout it.
But listen,as a first deal,i’ll just draw Steckches, scan it and send it to you…I am not that good drawer when it comes to several animated Pictures,so ok??
I’ll do several Sketches in Defferent Positions, and i’ll first try it out with the SVC Style and then goes to the Rest(Like in Vapire Hunter the Anime)
PS: so i’ll mainly try to Draw an anime Style, and another ones Like SVC Drawing Style.

i’ll contact you as soon as possiable…see ya

I was thinking about this in my head a lot today.

You’ve been saying that you’ll take care of the art part, you do realize that the art part is the god-tier of easy in this project?

DC games being “hackable”, you’re saying this because of the soundtrack switching aren’t you? That’s nowhere near hacking. Hacking the DC is an idea you’re going to have to get out of your head, not only is it not going to happen but if it did I don’t think a bootleg of a pirate copy of one of their games is going to give them positive attention.

So what other platforms? Mame is a big one, but I don’t think anyone knows how to hack that either.

You’re really stuck with making a Mugen character if you want to ever actually produce something from this project. It sounds like you want to produce all new animation, not just sprite coloring. So you would have to make all new hit boxes, you’re not going to be able to ‘hack’ any roms and change that data. Mugen is the only thing that is going to allow you to do this.

Hell, I don’t even think Sprite Hacking has been successful on the SNES or GBA platform.

I also don’t understand how sketching the animations as real drawings is going to help you. Pixel art and pencil art, to me, are too completely different things. I think the analog work you are doing is just wasted time. Also if you were to find a way to hack the games, I don’t think it would be wise to change anything about the position, size, or shape of the sprites. Because I don’t think you would get hackable hit boxes.

I would love to see you make a new spriteset for it though, I just don’t think you’re going to get the glory event you are expecting from this. I personally think you best bet is to make your own custom Mugen game out of this.

Get in touch with VX @ Herv, he’s the main admin at Sprite-Central.

Is there a working Sprite Central address or is it still temp closed?

Wuno. I haven’t talked to VX since the faux CvS3 thing.

Morrigan treated so unfairly :shake:

Not a bad proposal, however crazy it might be. Lol.

I think it’s best to let just ONE person make a polished, final “draft” for each sprite set that’s posted here, just to maintain consistency in art style. I’d pay a stolen fortune to see the sprites drawn in the same fashion as the Night Warriors anime series, personally, but everyone’s got a different style or drawing capacity, so IMO having one artist cover it would be the safest thing.

The link with all the rare Morrigan sprites closed down, so here’s a little contribution from an MvC1 secret file.
EDIT: Hey, want to let udoneko in on this? Maybe he could arrange somethin’ for you.

As intriguing as this project is, I’m more interested in seeing you guys put this sprite in a game.

As per SNES and GBA, YES, sprite hacking HAS been done, via Emulator and IPS patches. On DC, I dunno. Good luck if you pull it off, though.

On what? (I’m talking fighting games here.)

Fighting games, I’m not sure. There are Final Fantasy 3 hacks thats put FF7 characters in there, and the Justin Bailey patch for Super Metroid.

I’m just saying it’s not impossible, given the system.

Dead on. Actually, it’d be better for a few different artists to create concept drawings, and then we’d choose the best out of them to be our style guide.

I know. You just repeated that quote.

Whatever happens you’re going to need one hell of a consistent line artist.
