[MAJOR] CANADA CUP 2012 | Oct 26-28 | Calgary AB | International 5-on-5 $5,000 Pot

its really expensive to fly cross country canada for some reason.

Yeah, Canada’s lame like that. Bee’s won some money for airfare at least. Hope to see him here.

Persona 4 Arena should really be present as a side tournament. I kinda don’t want to come to the event if it isn’t.

Rayray came back and made top 3 or 4 after losing a big mm to fanatiq not that long ago at ECT4.

…immediately after the match? pretty sure his was next day lol
im not making excuses for him, was just pointing something out lol

I gotta say, this is good watching.

uh huh

Yes. He was motivated to play better after losing the MM. lol.

No excuses though. Bee and Simon won straight up. Props to Quan though. Showed a lot of class and took his losses like a man.

u forgot mirage AKA mai the tournament assassin…went there just to put quan in losers in the first round then bounced lol

Oh wow. Nice. I’ve known Mai since back in MvC2’s inception. Great to see that the old man’s still got it.

Yeah tbh I really wanted to play noel or quan early so I could get the experience playing under tourney pressure against someone known. Quan was beating me pretty good in a few money matches before that and took me off my game to the point where I was dropping wolverine abcs. But the brackets worked out since I was unseeded going in and Shiro was trying not to have same region people fight each other, so somehow I drew Quan early and managed to string together 3 wins lol.

We actually had a really sick ft5 set the second day where at 4-4 he almost made the sickest 1-pixel no-xfactor comeback on 3 characters I have ever seen with his taskmaster, but nobody saw it so nobody will care so I will leave it at that lol.

I think two Japanese teams should be:

  • Eita/Uryo/Haitani/Fuudo/Kazunoko
  • Tokido/Mago/Momochi/Dogura/Naruo

Tbh I want to see less-known-outside-Japan players like Kuroken, Dashio, MDR, Nekojita, Michael Tan… to come but I know it’s harder to invite non-sponsored players

I don’t think Umehara and sako will attend. Umehara seems lost all his interest in SFIV while sako hardly goes to offline tournaments (EVO 2012 is an exception).

Other teams suggest:

  • USA 1: JWong/Latif/Dieminion/PR Balrog/Hsien Chang (SBO dream team :))
  • USA 2: Ricky O/Mike Ross/Wolfkrone/F.Champ/Sanford Kelly
  • Korea: Laugh/Infiltration/Poongko/KimLegend/hydeBUFFY

I know it’s impossible but I really want an allied Chinese team with players from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland than separating teams. Imagine a team that contains GamerBee/RB/GameOutttt/Da Kou/Xiao Hai would be a strong contender

Mai’s the secret boss of our FGC…u cant ever find him but if u manage to beat me twice without blocking just when u think your gona fight bee Mai comes from behind and beserker slashes you lol

Be careful what you wish for, it just might happen! :wgrin:

I love the idea of japanese players that don’t get out to tournaments as often. I’d cast a vote for Akimo, I’d love to watch a set vs Ross there. The only problem with the lesser known Japanese guys is they might not be willing to travel.

For your first team, I would say -6 would be a more reliable and steady Akuma than Eita. Naruo is great but I would suspect there are more players to fill that gap (though Naruo might be seen as a better choice than Mago to a lot of people).

I think a more realistic team would be a “Team Topanga” as Kazunoko, Tokido, Mago, Bonchan and Fuudo all are on Topanga. Speaking of which it may be kinda silly to not add a Sagat as Japan is the land of Sagat (=^.^=)

About the lesser travel players I agree! Though I would prefer to see “specialist” or “best” of certain characters like Amiyu (though Da Kou may now be challenging for “Best Gen”) and KojiKoG.

Also maybe there will be more than 2 Japanese teams. Maybe!

I’m not sure if it’s like this for all the teams but it seems that there’s a “Captain” and that “Captain” picks his teammates so this unfortunately ends up being a friendship contest in some cases.

For the USA teams it was mentioned by James Chen that Ricky Ortiz and Justin Wong had some sort of a “Draft” over the weekend. They also were saying over twitter they want to “even” the teams out.

In reference to your teams, it would be nice to see Latif in a sort of Arabian All-Star team (Please let Kuwait bring their own team) and PR Balrog in team Puerto Rico but if that doesn’t happen it would be nice to see other players that aren’t very well known but are solid and as good as some of the people you mentioned. Maybe someone like Fourwude (Best Akuma in USoA?) or the boy guile from FL (2nd guile in USoA?) or some other top, solid player!

Also I would consider putting iPeru (if no team Peru) over some of the names you’ve mentioned as he has placed in almost all the tournaments he went to and did better at EVO than most of the names you mention.

For the Korean team I totally agree with KimLegend  He shoulda been there last year! (=^.^=) The 5th can be filled by a load of other great players.

For the China, Chinese Taipei etc all-stars you didn’t add Human Bomb?! Seriously though I think it would be more exciting for them to have their own team! There are plenty of good players in China. Also Chris Hu can fill in a role with his Oni.

Really hope Canada Cup pulls through with the more exotic teams like Kuwait, Dom. Republic., South American teams or a South American Alll-Stars team, an AFRICAN team (yes Africa had a representative for SC2 at WCG which is a game much harder for less fortunate countries to play. The picture of him was him barefoot and not much on for attire and he didn’t do too bad!)! These teams have a good chance of upsetting people even though most stream monsters will consider some of them “free” and a wasted slot. Maybe that’s being too ambitious but at least Kuwait and Dom. Republic have “proven” themselves through SBO, VxG and EVO.

This event is already have people talking! I’ve been twitch TV and people have been talking about Team USA, team Canada and even saw one guy on his twitch channel talking about “Team UK” and the people that should be in it.

Maybe you guys have the time to do a “Meet The Team” so we can get introduced to the teams of Canada Cup and establish at least some connection to them other than nationality.

Honestly I think team china is the one to look out for. Especially if they do some china united team of Dakou, xiaohai, gamerbee, humanbomb and a 5th. That team would be my favorite to win it

any chance of a skullgirls side tourny? that game needs some love atm.

Quoting to show support. Persona should be a side tourney!
