MadCatZ PS3 TE FightStick: PC - Xp- vista- win7 32-64bit (read 1st post)

I got my Fightstick a week ago and was having similar problems too, but a VIA-based add-on PCI card fixed the problem (thanks for the poster who first tried that out!).

I’ve been doing some research on the issue and found a few things that may be of interest. It is a little-known fact that there are two mutually incompatible standards for USB 1.x controllers - UHCI and OHCI (USB 2 was standardised with EHCI). OHCI is an open-standard, while UHCI is proprietary to Intel. As far as I know, only VIA has licensed UHCI from Intel, while everyone else used OHCI. From the previous posts, it seems that those whose Fightsticks work (Intel and VIA users) all have UHCI USB chipsets, while all those for whom it doesn’t work (AMD, NEC, Nvidia etc.) all have OHCI USB chipsets.

The easiest way that I’ve found of determining which type you have is to open Device Manager (in the Control Panel), and expand the ‘Universal Serial Bus controllers’ section in the device tree. There should be numerous entries ending with ‘Host Controller’. OHCI controllers are listed as ‘OpenHCD USB Host Controller’, while UHCI controllers are listed as ‘Universal Host Controller’ (‘Enhanced Controller’ are EHCI controllers for USB 2, and irrelevant here). For the benefit of others who are planning to buy the stick mainly for their PCs, could everyone please confirm that UHCI controllers work with the Fightstick but OHCI controllers don’t?

It also seems that this is not a unique problem - Thrustmaster have had simliar problems before with their joysticks and wheels.

I think that this is the problem that is related to the Hori Fighting Stick 3 not working on PC as well. I have an UHCI controller so my Hori Fighting Stick 3 worked without any problems but a lot of people report that their Hori Fighting Stick 3 doesn’t work with their PC.

Since both sticks are for the PC it could probably be a problem beyond what Madcatz can fix.

Right, but windows doesn’t recognize the turbo button at all. The home button works but it won’t light up.

I bought one of those PCI cards like you guys linked.

The card is so old that the drivers that come with it don’t work on Vista, great.

So I still have the same problem you guys do, has anyone actually tried calling MadKatz customer support?

Harass them with e-mails if you want to make sure they’re actually working on it.

Great info guys, but since I’m not a massive pc techie, my question is:

Is there any way that the fightstick will work with OHCI? ie madcatz producing drivers etc

I think you are 100% right madcatz should have been aware of this but probably went for the cheapest way and thus creating this problem. But they are like any other company out there just take a look at capcom they started releasing the new costume packs the day sf4 was released and kept em coming week after week even though they were all on the disc and not to mention all of the new versions of their games.

But anyways great post I think going for the quality custom stuff is the way to go but the only problem is they cant handle the demand but maybe in the future if the fighting game boom keep on getting bigger and bigger. And we europeans got another problem there are virtually no custom stick builders arround here compared to the states. But I guess most of us can afford the shipping but the closer the better. For now I guess well have to wait for the damned patch or buy the usb card.

I just got a PS3 TE stick yesterday, and tried it on my AMD laptop, but it didn’t work. Then I used it on an Intel Desktop at home and it worked, but I had it set on DP mode and the stick didn’t work, so I switched to LS and it worked. Is this how it should be? I don’t have my PS3 with me at the moment so I don’t know if it’s defective or something.

What I don’t understand is why hasn’t Madcatz come out and say something about this. I’ve emailed them several times till I’m rather sick of it. What’s Daniel Nuth, the so-called test technician of Madcatz, been doing the past two weeks? And has Markman even done anything at all about this?

If I could install a pci usb device to fix this issue, I’d have done so long ago.

On a side issue, how comes the xbox360 version doesnt seem to have any problems, is that one ohci?

Because xbox is made by micosoft and ms can build their own drivers for windows…:wonder:

For those who have a laptop and do not have the option of a PCI card, has anyone had success with an usb express card 34mm for a laptop?
I’ve seen NEC chipsets, but based on the thread, that’s not going to work.

i dont have the SE stick yet, but doesnt the xbox260 SE stick work with windows XP or is it just the TE?

This thread is for the PS3 sticks, but there are drivers for the 360 SE/TE sticks.

I wish someone could come up with a driver for the PS3 stick. If I knew how to make drivers, I’d do it myself lol.

The original post in the stickied “Official Street Fighter IV FightSticks & FightPad Thread (More on the way!)” really needs to be updated with a link to this thread for the PS3 TE sticks. I have the same issue of not having a VIA chip and will now have to go find one.

…really disappointed with Madcatz on this one. I had full expectations that it would fully work on the PC without any exceptions because of that thread.
