Mad Men Thread (Season 3 begins 8/16 on AMC)

shows not that simple chase and feelings of pity dont necessarily pertain to what people are talking about here.

alcoholism isn’t a flaw in the time period unless it causes you to break social propriety. but really the show isn’t about grand moralizing and more about the conflicts between what people want and what is/was expected during the time period.

I just realized that Draper’s burgeoning relationship with the psychologist is going to get test in the near future when the younger Ms.Headgame shows up randomly.

best ep of the season so far. imo. shit started getting intense and don was shook.

pete fucking handled that shit too. man. i gained a lot of respect for him. especially when roger started browbeating him and pete kept his cool.

i like how roger didnt say shit about why he was really that pissed…scum
i thought betty would spill the beans in bed but luckily not yet.

Best episode by far, Lane’s chocolate mami was mmmmmmmm. She’s that ex member from 3lw and played Lil Kim in Notorious, so fine.

next week’s episode is going to be epic.

…and yeah, pete finally came off as a good guy.

Roger Sterling is the penultimate asshole I swear. His conversation with Joan in the restaurant on whether or not she wants to keep the child and the fate of her husband really shows his character (or lack thereof).

When he was trying to fish for new accounts and he ripped up the one of the guy who died was hilarious as well, not to mention the thumbs up to the Lucky Strike account being A-OK.

Oh no wonder, she’s that same honey from 3LW! She gained a few pounds too. (not that I’m complaining)

Yeah I have to give Pete his props, but I think he also knew how fast the company would fall without their figurehead Don as well.

Don finally let his guard down completely, which only created a greater bond between him and her. I just hope he knows to keep his pants closed tight otherwise he’s screwed… and not in the good way.

It’s funny when Don shows his true colors because the frightened little kid he is/was comes out.

Last but not least, Lane got his ass Rolento’d!!!

DADDY NOOOOO!!!

So wait, if Lucky Strike might be leaving SCDP, then does that mean they can bring sal back? !

would they after that? idk don didnt seem too on his side when he sent him walking

I’m not sure Sal would even come back. But they’re going to have a problem even staying afloat, now that Lucky Strike is gone.

Penultimate means second-to-ultimate, btw.

Liked this episode. Wow, Lane's dad is REALLY an asshole.

Pete surprised me. Obviously he did it just to further his own ends, but it really came through for Don in a way that I wasn't expecting.

Sterling is Sterling.

I almost lost my shit at Joan's news at the beginning of the episode. Speaking of broads, I actually did lose my shit when I saw Pete's wife.

It was funny seeing them walk into the board meeting at the end, and Cooper was the only one without major shit going on in his life- at least, as far as we know. Everyone else had some major bombshell that they weren't revealing. It's funny that the one who was most honest about it was Pete.

Though I wondered for a second of Lucky Strike guy was gonna hit on Sterling. "Oh yeah, you wanna keep this account? Kiss me on the mouth. :badboy:"

Anyway, dark ending, but I liked it.

Pete is the rock of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce.

Only person bringing in new accounts, having to keep all of Don’s dumb ass secrets, and having to deal with Rogers jealous teenage bullshit.

PETE FOREVER.

I like that interesting awesome things happened this episode. And my man Pete is keeping it real. The poise he showed while Roger was berating him was first class.

Pete should be responsible for helping keep the partnership afloat. He’s dedicated to the company - see how he takes a massive hit in face and earnings simply to ensure Don stays. It’s smart, in the long term - assuming Don doesn’t implode.

I’d also like to see more Cosgrove up to his old skills of bringing in clients.

Massive turmoil again! Don’t think Joanie got the abortion. And seeing Trudy in that dress all pregnant was sexiest fucking thing on this show I’ve ever seen!

lol Don’t worry I know what penultimate means, which is why the “ultimate” asshole is Pete. Just because he had a weird lapse and eerily gained a conscience one ep doesn’t mean he’s one of Santa’s elves; and as aforementioned, saving Don was for his benefit in the long run.

But onto this week’s ep …

Don is despicable, plain and simple. Sure he has a conscience, but it doesn’t impede him in any way. This time I lost much respect of him. Not only does he cheat on a woman absolutely devoted to him and is practically his intellectual equal (unlike the willy nilly Betty), but also risks exposing his secrets if she finds out and shit hits the fan. Bad bad play Don, very bad. :nono:

i will see what pete does with the offer b4 i pass judgment the real slime is roger tho as this ep proved without a doubt

We already knew Roger was a piece of shit. This episode asks the question what does Roger have to offer? Is he just some rich kid who inherited a business or does he have some talent? As much as I despise this character I have no doubts he is the best Account Man in the game. I just wonder if he’s going to bother to prove himself, dude is old, rich, and lazy. But when he looks at his book about his life he knows is a sham.

ever since roger got divorced and remarried his “fire” has been gone. it was kinda sad seeing him comb through his rolodex and most of the people in it were dead or retired.

Just saw the episode.

Roger…Roger is Roger. It’s been established how shady he was, but I have to say it was new to me seeing him whine to Joan over the phone that way. Though it was interesting seeing how unhappy he is at home. He has a bunch of shit (wife included), and he doesn’t seem to be happy about any of it.

I appreciated Joan’s reaction to Roger in this episode, and her being frustrated/tired of the entire situation. He looked like he was about to go jump off a bridge as he left her apartment, though.

Don…is fucking up. He really shouldn’t have made that move with the secretary chick (AGAIN). That blonde therapist chick is actually, I think, the highest-quality woman who he’s ever been with. It’s almost a shame that she had to like him.

Show faked me out: I was expecting something to go wrong with Pete’s wife during the delivery.

Peggy had the line of the episode, for me: “Why do you keep making me reject you?” And she asked that shit so honestly, which made it that much funnier. Actually, she had another line, about being punished for enjoying herself. And I expected her to flip out on Art Guy for the lipstick thing, but she just laughed it off, like “THIS guy…”

Megan was only a matter of time. Anytime a hot woman shows up on the show, the clock starts on when she will sleep with Don. I think Megan actually lasted the longest.

Why do I simultaneously pity and envy Don Draper all the time so much?
