The movie was like George Miller saying: “Just wanted to come in and remind the Wachoski’s, Justin Lin, Michael Bay and all the youngin’s how to make a thrilling action movie. Now I’m off to start pre-production Babe 3, bitches!"
What? This is obviously an action movie. There is action happening from beginning to end and the camera work, music, designs, and etc all support that. Even the story supports it. It’s essentially two really long chase sequences. One going away, and one returning. And that’s not bad, it’s incredibly well done, there’s nothing really out of place in it, the character development is done in such a way that doesn’t interrupt the action but is told THROUGH the action, etc.
Calling Mad Max: Fury Road an action movie is not pigeon-holing, it IS what it is
I’m sitting in the precarious position of I won’t be back in Korea until July, and movies take forever to come out in China due to censorship laws. So by the time I get to Korea, it won’t be there but it’ll be in China.
The other aspect that was done well, was how each group had their own sense of culture and design philosophy, without needing an thorough explanation. They were so distinct you could just accept it right from the start. They added so many subtle touches (i.e., War Boys finger-hatched bowing in reverence, Norse allegory tied in with Immortus Joe’s deification, Green Place women keeping count of the days etc…). There were a lot more little things they added that I missed/ forgot, so it’ll be fun watching this movie again 6 months from now. Sure similar stuff was in the older movies, but I was impressed that so much could be done at the fast pace the movie was going.
The Organic Mechanic, I loved that name.
BTW…

Did anyone else get the sinking feeling we might be 2 decades away from such a future?
Heard a lot of Great things bout this movie, I really wanna see it. I just hopen it ain’t the same people saying this is good that thought aou was good, cause that movie sucked dick.
SO after my 3rd time watching this epicness I think this should have been wide released in Imax cause the art is nothing short of perfection. Shit fuck it ill make the drive to NY and watch this bad boy in Imax.
I liked mad max as a kid but for some reason the nonstop action in this one was just so masterful it might be my fav out of them all now.
I just finished this movie for a 3rd time and about 90mins of the movie i had to piss so bad but said fuck it ill hold it even tho I had already seen it twice. Once it starts you just cant take your eyes off the screen.
How are the action scenes, action choreography and violence done in this movie? For those who have seen it. If done well it really could be the best action movie of the last 20 years.
Are the Bourne’s the only other contender? Taken was good. There’s really no other good action movies I can think of with a futuristic setting like this done good lately.
A good dark cyberpunk done well is a hole that’s not been filled yet. Maybe this guy could do it justice, but unlike this the bg’s would probably be CGI and just how good that would look could make it or break it.
Saw this movie today, pretty good. Lots of action, which is what an action movie is supposed to be (that part with the sandstorm is sick). Not sure why this was rated R though. It’s a pretty soft R, IMO. Definitely not something kids should be watching, but not quite deserving of the R rating.
