M.O.D.O.K. Thread 2: Orgasm Harder

I feel like the Balloon Bomb assist has a lot of potential, it’s that new secret hotness that’s just waiting for its potential to be unlocked.

I used a fair amount of **MODOK **at our recent fight club event in Manchester UK. Here’s a few of my thoughts on his moves.

MODOK definitely IMO is the most **unique **character in MvC3 to use so far. He really is terrible up close with odd normals and his C attacks having big start up.

MODOK needs a good **get the fuck off me assist **more than anyone else in the game. i was using Ryu’s Shoryu assist to get people off me when they managed to get in. However it really is hard for some characters to deal with MODOK when you are chucking out balloon bombs, psyonic blasters and spam assists.

Back+C Aegis Reflector is great fun, however it doesnt last for long. You can keep people locked between you and the shield and do constant dwn+A’s over and over as the shield stops the pushback, not really practicle but funny.

Ballon Bomb (DP+ATK) to me felt like his best move by far, it homes in on the opponent and does large enough hitstun to combo off it if you’re close enough or have meter for Hyper Psyonic Blaster.

Cubes of knowledge definitely need some testing, they stay out for like a second then vanish but they are pretty good for zoning with. If you charge up a lvl 9LOU Hyper Psyonic Blaster you do about half health damage. The use of LOU’s so far seem better spent on the big fuck off Aegis Reflectors.

Combo, 2A, 5B, 5D, jump, mash j.A lol, 9+B+D (rocket thing).

Ruby Heart rocket move (direction+ATK+D), was fun, not too sure on how useful it will be but i was comboing into it. You can do three in a row off one jump, definitely useful for mobility though as it’s faster than flying.

Flying is really fucking slow…

Command grab super (DP+2ATK’s) is actually awesome, i caught a lot of people who managed to get in and try and pressure me with it.

Ruby Heart super (QCB+2ATK’s) felt pretty good too as it has quick start up and you can hit confirm it (and Hyper psyonic Blaster) off a balloon Bomb.

MODOK feels like a really fun zoner but definitely needs more testing than the rest of the characters in the game. Can’t wait to see what people will figure out with him

I have been wanting to know this for a long time - thank you.

Yeah, didn’t seem worth it at the time considering that you lose all your stocked levels and the shields are a better use, but I never got the chance to try it in a combo so it may still be good to tag onto the end of a big ass combo.

Also didn’t get a chance to try the lvl9 super command grab. That move is really useful too.

My thought is this: generally, it’s better to buff up his specials. But when your opponent brings in an assist that is low on health, you burn those LOUs to make sure it dies on a HPB punish. It actually kind of reminds me of EX attacks in SFIV vs. supers - it’s generally better to use meter for EX, but sometimes you really need that super to win the fight.

Edit: I noticed you played a lot of Ryu - do you plan to comment in that thread as well?

I already did a Ryu write up, check that threads previous posts.

Ryu is boring and slow, just a place holder for Taskmaster. Although i will miss Ryu’s Shinku Hadoken, that literally has to be one of the most versatile supers in the game.

EDIT: now I can’t find my post about Ryu @___@;; here it is anyway:

Thanks for testing him out man. Info is much appreciated.

I’ve been thinking this for a while too. I think it’s going to be more useful than Barrier as an assist as well. It actually does damage and causes hit/block stun unlike barrier, but still serves as an obstacle the opponent needs to get around. Where Barrier just stops the opponent from moving forward, Balloon bomb stops them moving forward and opens them up to eat a combo/hyper.

Obviously both have their pros/cons as an assist. Its one of the big things I’m looking forward to testing out with my team next week.

Could someone please shed some light on what MODOK is doing at Is he activating his Fly Mode, or is he just holding up? I could be wrong, but it looks like Fly, airdash, unfly > j. normal attack.

What do u guys think about team : Haggar , Dante , Modok. Is it going to work? Or there’s a big holes in that team?

Thanks.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but MODOK has 950,000 HP, which is more or less average.

Curious. Is Killer Illumination a Level 3 Hyper?

None of his Hypers are lvl3

OMG MODOK coming on the MVC3 stream soon. Trolls assemble!

Ahhh, is that right? I know EventHubs posted it being a Level 3, but I’ll believe it when I try him out.

From the looks of things so far. The hype for MODOK seems to have died down a little bit. I think a lot of people are getting scared off by how bad he plays in close. Honestly the only real issue I see him having is his inability to deal with teleport. I’m still really stoked about this guy.

Yeah, his normals look like crap. I plan on using an assist to push people away (like charging star) so I can avoid playing footsies and continue zoning.

i still think modok will be a problem in this game. with the right assist (AAA), he’ll be fustrating. can’t sleep on a character with his abilities. 8wayAD, 2 flights, projectiles, aegis shield, LA-like headbutt, super grab, he’s got A LOT going for him.

I’ve been playing a bit, and man, modok is weird. Gonna take me a long time to get used to him (but then again, I never really played Guilty Gear much).

Some stuff:

His only low attack is c.H… it’s pretty slow. It’s like a sweep, basically.

You should be able to land at least 3-4 cubes in one combo, maybe more?

Can only do 3 specials during a super jump.

…If you guys got any questions or anything, I can try to answer? I suck, but I can try stuff for people who don’t have it yet.

Can you go into more detail about the LOUs, and what each levels do, and how each level boosts and benefits each attack. How does LOU affect MODOK’s assist, etc.
