Guiles have been driving me crazy.
Any really experienced players want to give us some insight into the Guile matchup?
I don’t know what the safest move is for opening up vs Guile. I tried s.rh to stuff any sb attempt, problem is, if they flashkick, they just scored a knockdown and you’re stuck starting from full screen.
What I see happening a lot is that the Guile is charging d/b and waits for you to do something. HS, Scissors, DR all get owned by flashkick, and in some cases, Guile simply jumping backwards + j.mk.
I’ve been basically starting with a d/b charge waiting for them. Some of the not so good Guile will jump in whatever direction, leading to an easy knockdown with PC or even j.rh/j.strong x 3 juggle. The more patient Guiles simply walk backwards and start their sb spam. HS on reaction is not always good enough. c.hp, back.mk, or back j.mk can beat your HS. If I manage to catch a Guile during his SB, it’s usually enough for a j.rh s.lk c.mk xx scissors, but again, if I’m too late or guess wrong, then it’s either flashkick or c.hp to the face.
I tried waiting for them to turn aggressor. Sitting there jumping over their sbs without moving back and avoiding chip damage - but if he just walks behind his sb, his stupid overhead has a ton of priority, and it tends to trade with j.rh and you then eat the sb for your trouble as well. Any jumping move from Dic to cleanly beat that? If you sit there and block the sb, he’s going to be right behind it with the c.mk or overhead or even the tick throw.
This match up is infuriating!
s. RH really is the safest, but if you don’t feel like doing that just wait on d/b. A lot of Guiles will do the same thing. If he flash kicks right off the bat, you’ve got him. If he booms, jump straight up or jump over his head and try a cross up. I just play very patiently against Guile. If I’m lucky, they’ll back themselves into the corner and I can start my shenanigans from there.
As far as throwing a boom and walking up…don’t block those. Wait until the last possible second, and then jump straight up and j. roundhouse if they follow you. Do that a couple of times and they’ll quit doing it.
I don’t know if you guys are doing this yet, but just to point it out, fake slide (hold back immediately) (whiff) standing short, crouching forward xx psycho works. This is extremely useful for punishment. If Ken whiffs a dragon punch at mid-range, used to be that you could do scissors or psycho to punish, but now you can do fake slide into a full combo to punish and it takes like maybe a fraction of a second longer for the fake slide to get there than it did for psycho. Punish for 40% damage anywhere within half a screen!
Wooo, go unintended consequences of changing parts of the game that didn’t need to be changed!
I’m seriously starting to think dj is one of dic’s worst matchups he can turtle all day and then jmp if he’s looking for hs and then if he corners me I’m fucked with jmp, max out, and slide mixups:mad:
Nice one! I had a pretty good feeling fake slide would be used for a lot more than just an occasional throw mixup. Not sure if I’m happy or sad about that though…
s.roundhouse is your friend.
couple of questions:
Whats the best way to get out of the corner when your opponent is mixing you up? I can sometime slide out when I see an opening but is there anything else more reliable to get the other guy off you and reset positions? My biggest problem is anti-air with Bison when locked up in the corner.
How do you beat Zangiefs lariet? I kno glowing fist does, but anything else more practical cause its a bitch to land the fist.
I mean…it depends on the specific set up. Who is putting you in the corner and applying pressure? In the worst case scenarios (Gief/Honda) Super (no…seriously) and now Devil’s Reverse reversals can buy you some breathing room.
When in doubt, try psychic jump towards strong. Again…I mean…it depends on the scenario.
I’ve started using st.Forward over st.RH vs. really jumpy opponents. I was getting hit far too much by scrubs simply because the st.RH is so easy to jump over and punish…
So after another long session of Dictator rape, I gotta say Im gonna main him, maybe even for SF4. But i LOVE blanka’s hop to bite as a mix up so I gotta keep him round too haha
To beat Lariat, just slide.
So…this is a total fail on my part…but in two of the matches I played two diff ppl used SPD, green hands x2. By that point they’re close enough to me to pretty much do whatever they want (SPD or pressure). What’s the best option here? If I stick anything out Zang can SPD the limb and if I crouch block I’m guaranteed to eat an SPD too. Do I just jump away and eat any normal that gets thrown out?
what ive been doing is after SPD if i kno he is going to green hand i devil reverse the heck outta there and maybe even punish if im fast with it. if im unsure tho jump away with j.mk
so when playing against guile, after sonic boom the very few times the player decided to jump at me scissor kicks would win every time. I did have to be very patient tho, because if i tried to PC or SK preemptivly I would get sonic boomed or if I tried to head stomp, jump at him, or w/e he would flash kick. And crossup jumping Forward does work very well against Guile. The crossup is right out of his cr.Fierce and if pressured correctly you can use it almost lie Blankas upper-hand tactics.
Pretty much staying in Guiles face and using lots o standing Forward seems to work out great.
also, this worked well too.
I been starting to do this more. Also fake sliding is nice when someone tries to jump at you in corner pressure. You get to switch sides and sometimes punish with st.Roundhouse.
on another note, how do you beat Dic with Dic? I cant seem to punish PC online at all. Most of the Dics I play against spam that move like its CE, and of course Im an idiot so i cant punish it at all.
Pretty sure you can tag them with a s.rh after they cross over you.

You should be able to do a Knee Press instead of the Crusher. I believe Knee Press does more damage and more dizzy.
I usually back into a corner (WHAT?!) when playing a Dictator player that just crushers all day. They usually do the fierce one, and I just throw them while they’re recovering. Then I cross them up for the W. There’s a reason that you shouldn’t do a psycho crusher unless you know it’ll hit :wgrin: . I used it a lot when I was a kid, but then I realized very quickly that it was kind of a crappy move. Sirlin is right on that one though…if PC was good and capable of being used as a reversal, it would make Dict. too much like Honda. God…could you imagine if jab PC functioned similarly to Honda’s jab headbutt?
