M. Bison ftw (Dictator Thread)

^^ This man speaks the truth. I think this situation is also why the Scissor Kick has a longer charge time. If the Scissor Kick charged more quickly, Dictator might have had a corner lockdown in his possession.

Against other Dics, in ST, you can do lk scissors -> st.lk xx lk scissors -> st.lk, rinse repeat. In HDR, this doesn’t work because they can reversal DR out, but it’s still a really good block string, and if they don’t know how to get out, you can sometimes get a free win. The cr.lp cr.lp st.lk --> mp psycho crusher -> cr.lp cr.lp etc etc still seems to work against dhalsim, as well as the old st.lk cr.mk mp psycho crusher lockdown.

ok thanks, i was pretty sure you answered the question correctly i just wanted to make sure, and ya it’s FREAKING ANNOYING TO DEAL WITH so i’m just gonna like do it non stop myself. I’ve tried reversal throwing and dping it and haven’t been successful so i just end up blocking it now. I think i could never throw it though because of the range but who knows… its a good tactic anyway

I use cMK xx mk Scissors, cMK xx mk Scissors a lot for a setup on certain characters.Generally i try to gauge how quick my opponent is on mashing out a reversal throw or DP for a round or so before i start to use it, but i find it’s a good setup to either push back into a corner or get a sneaky throw in if they are a bit too inclined to block.I love back throwing off of a HK scissors.Anyone with a big priority on their normal throw (boxer, dhalsim, another dictator) or anyone with a command throw (hawk, honda, zangief) is a bad idea but typically the setup looks something like:

cMK xx mk Scissors, cMK xx mk Scissors, cMK xx hk OR mk Scissors, by that time they’ll be in the corner, and then i either mash HP & MP for a backwards throw and follow with a wakeup mixup, or if i expect a well timed reversal from a cleverer opponent just wait for it and block and punish.

This is not actually that difficult a tactic to get out of if you’re quick, but like a lot of bison’s stuff it can be so tricky to anticipate that it catches people a lot.If i’m going for the throw on someone who seems to be blocking all the time i seem to get best results out of using HK for the last scissors so that it hits meaty and i’m right on top of them when i recover, and then mash out the throw. If i’m just trying to keep a lockdown going, then i’ll stick with the MK scissors cos it leaves me a little further back.

Up until the last few days I thought I had a decent handle on the Boxer matchup, when I ran into Afro Legends’s Balrog.

I’m having a hell of a time beating Boxer’s rush-ins with cr.mk. His low rush (I think he uses lk most of the time) has such a short amount of dashing frames that his punch comes out fast enough to cleanly beat my cr.mk attempts. Is it a timing issue? Is it a spacing issue? a combination of both?

Once I’m cornered, I’m having the same problem that I have when I go against Dee Jay. I simply don’t see an opening. He can chip me to death, if I try and DR or jump out, seems like I get nailed by st.hp. I’ll occasionally get a round. I tried playing with headstomps/DRs to make him lose his charge, but it doesn’t seem to do a whole lot.

Any specific tips?

Use cr. mp to beat rushes, not cr. mk.

cr mp?? never seen it used effectively but that doesn’t mean its not useful…but yea raakam cr. mk is probably the most efficient tool for stopping boxer’s rush pushes (imho). Its probably the spacing though cause i have the same problem with boxer and his damn rush punches. If you see a rush punch coming though i think PC(es) beat’em clean… just my two cents

Whoops sorry I thought this was a SFIV thread, cr. mp is for SFIV not HDR.

Hey, what’s the best way to deal with a Shoto that fireballs you from across the screen, and DP’s you or sweeps you when you jump across?

Walk forward, block, walk forward, standing roundhouse when he fireballs again.

Or Devil’s reverse but go forward and then back, and if he tries DPing you, you will hit him on the way down.

Thanks. On a mission to make my Bison as fearsome as my T.Hawk.

^^

Won’t a Head Stomp catch him with his hands outstretched? I’m sure if you anticipate the Hadouken attempt, you can hit him with the Head Stomp and then make him wonder if you’re going to hit him with the Skull Diver or not…possibly bait a DP in the wrong direction and then combo him senseless.

Now…applying that modis operandi on reaction to a Hadouken? That might not work.

This works.Take it from me, i whore this against shotos all day, or guile after he throws a sonic boom and has no charge for a flashkick anti air.If a shoto player is not smart with their fireball or make it easy to predict, jump on their noggin and go for any mixup you like for more punishment afterwards.Cross them up, or even up and back any chance you get after a stomp (especially if they block and are good with a dragon punch reversal, you’ll mess up their input command), and if they’re especially dumb then just drop back to the other end of the screen and repeat till they learn not to toss fireballs at you without thinking. You’ve gotta be far enough away across the screen so that the upward arc of the headstomp goes over the fireball, don’t try this from less than 1/2 a screen away or you’ll take a knockdown.

I love playing shotos from this range, if you can evade them, all they’ve got to hurt you with is fireballs, and if you spot one coming it’s get in>WALLOP>Mixup>Get back out time.

Watch out for ryu’s fake fireball>dragon punch. That’s tricky to anticipate, gauge your opponent to see how clever he is, but a lot of players don’t use it.

EDIT: don’t use devils reverse. As sirlin put it it’s “enormously telegraphed”, any decent player will punish you the majority of the time. It’s best use is for getting out of a corner fireball trap against shotos IMO, and even then it’s tricky to do well.

Guess where I got the Head Stomp strategy from? CPU World Warrior Dictator. His no-charge Head Stomp was the one thing that really ruined my day when I played projectile characters. So, when CE came out, guess who I tried first? Dictator. In those days, Head Stomp, Skull Diver, st.:hk: = dizzy. So, landing the Head Stomp and possibly landing another combo on top of that will teach that Ryu player to stop spamming full-screen Hadoukens.

Sometimes, the AI gives you the answers to your most burning questions. Sometimes.

Unfortunately, if he starts throwing Fake Hadoukens and/or FB/DP trapping you from closer in…then you’ll have a problem. So make sure to stick that st.:mk: or st.:hk: boot in his gut…especially if he’s about to throw a Hadouken.

I’ve been seeing this happen every once in a while and I want to know if anyone can explain how it happens:

If you fierce psycho crusher an opponent and he is not in the corner, I find that sometimes you only hit twice (even if point blank) and the second hit counts as a cross up, and that catches even the most veteran players off guard. I’ve done it unintentionally a few times. Anyone know how to reproduce this? I’ve goofed around with it in training mode, and it happens occasionally but I can’t seem to pinpoint the exact cause.

CE Bison ?

No, the HD version. I’ve done it against Megaman’s Honda a number of times, and neither one of us could figure out how it happened.

See this post, SweetJohnnyV and I were able to figure out that it’s spacing dependent and incredibly hard to pull off. It’s easy to block though I admit, it catches me more often than not. Because I usually try to prep my retaliation too early. :frowning:

Hahahaha:woot: Me too. We’re showing our age there  I’ve been stomping on top of fireballing ryus since the first day i owned HyperFighting on the snes, just cause that uber cheap CPU bison used to piss me off with it so much in world warrior.I was on the recieving end of it so much it was instinctive to do it as soon as i got my hands on a bison of my own.

He was a cool boss, but MAN was he cheap!!Remember his infinite corner trap no charge scissor kick over and over??

^^

Yes yes! Kickin’ it old school up in here for the '09!

WW Bison is one of the most broken bosses of all time. Top 10, probably, but still worth mentioning.
