lost to a lagging ken that did NOTHING but lp.srks.
i couldn’t do anything, everything i tried failed.
this is so depressing .,.
any tips?
i can handle them if they don’t lag, but when they lag i have NO chance.

With Dictator, I have the “get them before they get me” mentality, which is why I always intend to cross up my opponents in order to end the fight quickly. But I guess I will need to make some adjustments in certain match ups.
However, I have watched this fight numerous times:

It is the last fight - AFO (Blanka) Vs. YuuVega (Dictator). YuuVega did jump at Blanka every time, but he never attempted to cross him up.
@ GensouGoroshi, st.LKs barely ever connect on Claw because of his standing animation. I do not believe that Dictator’s cross up combos work on him.
That’s my general fighting game mentality, too. But, like I said, if you run into a brick wall, you have to find a way around it. If they’re not letting you cross them up, you have to do something else.
Switch to jabs and you can do a bunch of jabs into Psycho Crusher for sure. I’m not sure you can get enough jabs on him to charge a Scissor Kick.
i can’t land the combos for shit but i loves me some dictator
You’re right, I just tried it. It might be better to go for mixups with stomp/DR or just guard pressure after the cross up.
Try rapid fire jabs, first! You should be able to cross him up and land one or two crouching jabs on him before standing up and jabbing and then cancelling that jab into a Psycho Crusher. Before I found out how good close standing short was, I comboed with Dictator like I do with Boxer. If your standing jab whiffs, try one less jab and remember that the Psycho Crusher charges very quickly.
Rapid-fire jab for the win!
Edit: My Link FAQ says that you can also link to crouch strong or crouch forward after a crouch jab, so theoretically, you could do a couple of crouching jabs, a crouching forward kick, and cancel that into a Psycho Crusher…and maybe even a Scissor Kick. The timing is difficult for the link, but it’s doable.
Why jab in a combo when you can s.lk?
Read back a few posts. They were saying that Claw’s awkward hitbox after the crossup keeps Dictator’s patented crossup combos involving cl.:lk: from working. That’s why I suggested cr.:lp:s into st.:lp: XX :hp: Psycho Crusher because (before I knew anything about cl.:lk: working) I’ve been getting that to work very consistently since Super…even on Claw. Plus, you can link from cl.:lp: or cr.:lp: to either cl.:mp:, cr.:mp:, or that all important ranged cr.:mk: if you want to connect with a more powerful attack before finishing with the :hp: Psycho Crusher. (All of that linking might allow you to charge a Scissor Kick, too, but I haven’t tried that enough to remember if that worked.) Just note that the frame advantage window from :lp: is smaller so your timing better be tight.
What are some basic tactics with Bison? I’m fairly new to the game (and the character) and the stuff in this thread seems pretty complicated. I just want to know the basics, though. (baby steps) So far I’m doing alright with him in random ranked matches, but the people there dont’ seem to be too great in general.
Can you steer the stomp, or does it only depend on your opponent’s height at the start of the stomp?
Anyone know the property that make Bison DR all the way off screen sometimes? I figured it was if maybe the oppoent jumped right as you do it, but I think I’ve done it with them never leaving the gorund.
You gain complete control after the stomp
Great way to mix people up in my experience is to head stomp, hold down back as soon as you launch to charge another while at the same time allowing you to return to a far corner, then immediately after landing from the 1st headstomp do it again. You can mix in a DR, follow up, or crossup throw if you get in their head a bit with it. If you get a feel for when your opponet is about to get frustrated and might make a mistake, headstomp-> Follow up -> S.RH -> Slide for some serious damage, a knockdown, and prolly a stun.
I know I can swerve around after the stomp, but what about steering mid-stomp? I ate a stomp from full screen while jumping back and never realized that was possible.
No you can’t steer it, and yes you can be stomped even if you jump
The stomp mechanics are odd, I haven’t heard any concrete info on what determines their ability to land. Unfortunately this can lead to both some unbelievable stomps and some “come the fuck on, he’s standing still” whiffs.
I think its what strength button you press that determines the initial height, stronger button makes you go higher.
Also up-forward input flies you across the screen, while up-back will go more or less straight vertical.
Basics:
- Controlling Space: st.MK and st.HK. Obviously, Dictator has no projectiles, but his standing middle kick and his standing high kick cover a lot of distance. Both moves allow him to control the mid range very well.
Anti-Air (AA) Moves:
- j.MP (can juggle up to three times)
- neutral j.MK and neutral j.HK
- st.LP (requires proper spacing to act as an anti-air)
Basic Tick Throws:
- st.LK -> Throw
- j.MK (or cross up j.MK) -> Throw
Reversals:
-
Devils Reverse (charge d,u+P). Dictator becomes vulnerable as he goes up into the air.
-
Knee Press Nightmare (Super = charge b,f,b,f+K)
Basic Combo:
- j.MK -> st.LK -> cr.MK -> Psycho Crusher / Scissor Kicks
Method for the aforementioned combo: j.MK (hold back as soon as possible), b+LK, d/b+MK, release “d/b” now and press f+HK for the Scissor Kicks or f+HP for the Psycho Crusher).
Tips:
-
do not abuse Psycho Crushers, especially not the HP version. You will either get punished or get trapped after landing in the corner.
-
it is wise to jump back and either do a MP or a MK against some characters (E.Honda, Zangief, T.Hawk, etc.) to avoid getting punished (on the reversal frame) after a blocked Scissor Kicks.
-
learn to cross up all characters with j.MK
-
never try to fight up close and/or out-throw characters such as Zangief, T.Hawk, E.Honda, etc. Keep your distance. Avoid getting corner-trapped because it can be very, very difficult to get out.
-
study each match up. Know what to expect in advance. Know your strategy.
-
watch how the best do it:

hello everyone
Im new to the srk forums, I have been playing Hd remix for about 2 months. Ive been trying to get better bye reading, working on combos, and trying to understand the strategy’s better, and also watching matches.
I was wondering if any of you could point out any big weakness you see in my play?
I try to use the dictator match up site videos as kind of a guideline of correct play.
I would really appreciate any advice you could offer. ty

You can use c.rh to close distance after knockdown while keeping charge.
That way you can do the c.mk wakeup with scissors or crusher ready.
After super you can juggle with j.mp for 2 more hits.
And try to get a feel for the timing of the combos of jump attacks, you have a slight gap which is why you get thrown or hit out of them.
There might be more but i’m not good enough to evaluate anything else.
You cannot steer mid-stomp. The only way adjust where your stomp is going to hit is how early or late you leave the ground based on where your opponent is.
If you knockdown your opponent, depending on your distance from them, and the time that you stomp, you can even cross up stomp them.
Stomp also has auto-aim, it will track your opponent, but depending on timing and spacing again, it might miss.
That’s why, say if you’re facing an opponent who high jumps and you stomp as they are leaving the ground, you might hit them at the top of the screen, or you might even trade with them. If they jump and you use the stomp command while they are at the apex of their jump you’ll probably lose to their attack if they delay it because your feet will be below their hitbox as you rise up, and their attack will connect with your head.
