M.Bison Beginners Thread

Any tips against close crossup? I am having difficulty dealing with karin j. Mk on close range. Cr Hp whiffs and i cant consistently pull v reversal at the moment.

Jump back lk pretty much, neutral jump mp if you react quickly.

Pretty much.

(1) I commonly see Bisons B-throw > Axe, stuffing quick rise options and landing a nice CC punish, or at least putting Bison at advantage. This is great, but if I don’t have an opponent that quick rises, how should I condition them to do so? Are there other better punishes or setups for slow rises?

(2) I also see Bisons (and other characters) waaay outside each others’ ranges quickly dipping between standing and crouching. What’s going on here? I’m guessing it’s both to disguise player intention / movement and also to cover some opponent options but I’d appreciate a bit more breakdown if possible. I can try to find a specific vid reference if needed.

If they don’t quickrise you have enough time to dash up and get right in their face when they wake up.

Other characters are buffering motions. Faking fireballs and what not. Bisons are down backing to give them a bit of preemptive charge incase they need to do a special move.

I have been so conditioned to store charge while blocking, that I lose crush counter opportunities when punishing blocked reversals. I go for standing roundhouse into df fierce, but since I was charging I get blast and my combo ends. How long do I have to go to neutral for me to lose charge in this game? It feels longer than in previous games.

If you are always going to go for df.hp after the CC s.hk, then you should just condition yourself to do neutral s.hk. the natural tendency would be to do b.hk.

That video was okay, but it was technically wrong about a few things, or a bit too vague to be any real use regarding specific moves.
Decent for an overview of his style though I suppose.

not sure if its just because i suck but bison seems to have a problem with turtles, i get wrecked by them

Im a complete noob rly terrible at this game just got my stick so im relearning the game it seems like also i rly want to main bison is he alright for beginner like me?

Bison might take a bit more work to get right for a lot of people because of how he’s changed but if you train and learn from your mistakes anybody should be able to pick Bison up in a fair amount of time.

I don’t feel he’s a good beginner character, he’s more intermediate.

How safe are his different Scissor Kicks on block? I keep hearing different things.

They are -4, -3 and -2 respectively. Only EX is +1.

ok so the frame data is correct, why do I keep hearing that HK scissors is unsafe? Can they still just be used to pressure heavily? Any talk about Bisons pressure I can read up on? Thanks in advance

Maybe because they’re incredibly slow and can only be cancelled into from st.hp which is also slow. Random hk scissors are not a very clever thing to do in most cases but they’re not unsafe on block.

So after sticking to training everyday since the game is out and getting my ass handed left and right online (and offline), I feel like I am seeing improvement. I can however use more feedback from you guys. I uploaded my match from today, let me know what I can do to improve.

Your opponent jumped around a lot and u won so hard to criticize because u did very well. I struggle vs Chun

Only thing I can suggest (I’m not that good) is that you should take advantage of opportunities to put safe pressure. In one round you got forward throw to the corner and u could have forward dash into meaty. This would catch quick rise and beat his ex sbk, and if he did the slow rise, u just whiff the meaty and neutral jump for a 4 frame safe jump. U opted to shimmy to bait the reversal but tha5s free breathing room.

Also off of m inferno, you have that safe jump option. Not necessary but it is there

Hard to say anything critical because u won pretty easily

Ya, i guess it is not a great video to analyze, i got excited because i feel like i take down a huge challenge. A lot of times seeing silver player gets me nerveous. i guess i was asking if i play a proper playstyle and pressure that most experienced players here play. Good point regarding forward dash meaty. i feel a lot of times my brain cant keep up, like when i got blocked, i feel like time stops and i wonder what i have to do next. This one game, it is like i finally can think a bit more clearly and apply constant pressure. I definitely might try to do more forward dash meaty and neutral jump on my next games.
