Cap is a bad example, since 1) they really only “revamped” Shield Slash, and 2) he’s actually worse in this game than in MVC2. Hulk is better (relatively), but again, they didn’t revamp him as much as slightly rebalance him. Akuma, Chun, and Morrigan are better examples of revamped characters.
I feel like I can’t play Arthur unless I have certain characters on my team, and that forces me to play characters I don’t like just to compensate for his weaknesses.
Also the way they implemented his armor upgrade just annoys the FUCK out of me because there’s absolutely no valid reason his armor should fall off after upgrading. At all. Period. If they wanted to make him like the game, well he had to actually be HIT in the game to lose his armor, here he loses it automatically. I’m under the impression that Capcom assumed he was going to be GODLIKE going in, hence the need to have his armor break, and require meter to put another one on, THEN another to upgrade again, otherwise it really is overkill. There are other zoners in the game who do what he should be doing way better, and far easier, to the point where using him ‘selectively’ isn’t even worthy of calling yourself a specialist.
That’s pretty ass backwards then. I understand the need for team synergy and the like, but I think he sucks so hard that it’s absolutely necessary for him to have team mates compensate for it, versus having team mates who actually compliment each other, work well with one another, etc.
It’s always been that way. Every character has certain assists they benefit on depending on their character type. Grapplers need help getting in, zoners need help keeping heat off them, rushdown needs help locking the opponent down and so forth. That’s the game. Can’t just pick 3 characters because you think they look cool. You need to think about your composition, be you top tier or humble low tier.
There is no composition when one character is that bad, the team synergy falls apart because the only reason I have the other two characters on the team is to compensate for one of them being complete shit. What fun is that? I acknowledge what you’re saying but there’s no interplay happening at all here, he needs every bit of help he gets. There’s no purpose at that point, I’m better off picking someone who does it way better (aka every other god damn zoner in the game, fuck even Magneto) who will establish far, far, far better team synergy and interaction.
They need to make him not suck outright so he can compliment his team as much as they’re literally keeping him from not being complete shit.
That is how I felt when someone explained to me Rolento in SF4 would be ass. Well, this was back when Super was about to launched. Now in AE he’d prolly fair pretty well.
Arthur has one of the best assists in the game and putting him third strongly deters your opponent from using X-Factor first. Also: DHC to Arthur LV3 beats anything your opponent puts on the field.
He’s one of the worst characters in the game, but it’s not like he has no gameplan. He’s still better than Cap.
Similarly, imagine a Cable with long range Peekaboo grenades that can hit confirm into super, HVB with 5 points of projectile durability, horizontal air gun shots that zone like Chris/Wesker, AHVB for full screen punnish or XF chip… Even if AHVB was nerfed, Cable could still be good. He’d be controlling space that not a lot of characters control and could be a damn sight better than the zoners currently in the game for that reason alone.
Everything is famed for its chip damage in x-factor.
And, having a horizontal projectile in the air is something very few characters have in this game. Unless he became stupidly slow, Cable would probably still be able to zone relatively well by virtue of that alone.
