LUFFY!!!!!

sure, if they enter and are able to navigate her throw invincible poke and her great backdash and her own fantastic throw game.

but that’s not specific to rose. “grapplers can do damage to you if they land a grab” is a universal basic concept.

The entire point of most mixups is to make it so that you have to guess an option, and if you guess wrong you get punished. this is, again, a universal thing and is nothing specific to rose.

Vanilla Sagat can be killed with mixups and good luck, does that mean he’s fair and balanced? the whole idea behind mixup setups is to make it so you can’t do anything, thus making character choice irrelevant(a succesful mixup, anyways)

Rose doesn’t have any more trouble in a grappler’s mixup than most other character. however what she does have is the ability to incredibly rapidly create distance, so if she on the other hand knocks the grappler down, she can be clear on the other side of the screen setting up a fireball and preparing to return to footsies before he can get back up.

An army made of straw marches here.

He did it. He freaking did it. And what was I doing? Sleeping. I fell asleep during Marvel finals missed the best part of EVO’s. God damn it.

Also, as expected, “OMG ROSE IS OP” stupidity has begun. Please continue to make me laugh.

Congratz to Luffy…That match vs Snake Eyez was an instant classic

That was one of the most exciting top 8 runs I’ve ever seen, and Louffy played his heart out. Seeing Europe taking EVO also brought manly tears to my eyes.

And, really? People are actually wasting their time trying to convince people that “hey guise rose is totally bullshit now” mere hours after EVO? She’s good now, no question about that, but she’s not that good. This was all Louffy.
Also, I know it’s heresy to say it loudly now, but he was lucky to not face any divekick-characters. Ricky beating Snake Eyez would have made his run a lot harder, I think. Then again, Louffy vs Snake Eyez was one of the most intense sets I’ve ever seen.

I am loving the amount of butthurt coming from Attica2200. “You mean grapplers actually struggle against zoners?! Say it ain’t so!”

people calling for nerfs already?

never change srk

Its not like her backdash is anything like Julia’s in sfxt…now that one was broke. She needs her backdash since she doesn’t have anymore that’s throw invincible but st.mk.

I don’t get that on psn…only the new players will say that.

Hmm…that’s the point of playing a grappler. Anyways, SnakeEyez would have probably won if it wasn’t for that button (s.mk) but it’s quite pointless to argue about that now. Louffy sure was getting a lot of mileage from that through out his matches though.

I’m just here to congratulate Rose players and welcome them to the life of a Gen player. You guys are probably going to hear a lot of uneducated comments from people who have no idea about your character from now on.

I guess Rose and Sagat are viable characters now. Maybe we can lock those Sagat threads asking for buffs? :stuck_out_tongue: (j/k)

S.MK has been unthrowable since Vanilla. This isn’t an Ultra buff. It’s part of her character.

If her backdash is all that people care about, it should be made clear that Ibuki, Chun-Li, and Cammy (along with others) all have greater backdash distance and, of those mentioned, only Ibuki’s is slower than Rose’s.

Attica2200 doesn’t actually play this game.

Non asian, non top tier char, non arcade stick guy won, where is the world going to?!
PS1 pad OP! everyone should start using one! gogo!

You know what else is around since Vanilla? Gen’s super > Ultra damage, yet people just started complaining last year.

Anyways, I’m not really complaining about Rose, just giving my 2cents from his match with SnakeEyez.

Nothing but props to Luffy—winning EVO with a non-bullshit character via solid footsies, reads, and match-up knowledge. Capcom should be happy as his victory—and the diversity in top 8, nay, top 16 in general—validates their USF4 balance changes. Regardless of glitches, net-code problems, etc, USF is still probably the most balanced of the editions and I’d like to believe that Luffy’s results are a testament to that.

All in all, my favorite SF4 EVO so far.

You think i don’t know that’s an universal approach or what a mixup is? Lol. What i’m saying is another thing. Rose, if compared to other characters (Shotos come to mind) has a hell of a lot harder time to get out of a mixup situation (from pretty much anyone, not only grapplers. I’m the only one who thinks vortex characters are (or to be more precise, were) pretty much some kind of foolish nightmare?

Sure, now, with DWU and (in some cases the slight buff to U1) it may be easier, but i’m still of the opinion that she needs a fully strike/throw invincible reversal. I’d gladly give back a good chunk of the buffs Rose got in Ultra to get that “get out of jail for free” card.

As for grapplers, my usual strategy is to keep them at bay at a poke/sweep range, try to bait them with a slide-backdash into a command grab and punish the whiff (usually with the classic cr.mp xx S. Spiral for a knowdown followed by a meaty Soul Piede), cr.hp or a well timed Soul Throw when they jump at me, and so on. Not a lot of fireballs, though, usually i don’t really use them against anyone unless i’m fullscreen or i have a spare EX to use. Maybe a bad habit i took because of Shotos (we all know Rose’s Fireball Game is pretty lame), since i just use LP Reflect for free meter and sometimes MP or HP Reflect on Reaction when the distance is about right to guarantee a hit.

Not only that. This is actualy the first time a female SF4 character won EVO.
Crazy to think it’s Rose. Also crazy to think that Louffy has been playing her since Vanilla.

Guess who’s maining Rose now…

This guy is.

Play a more patient game.
Get better at spacing.
OS backdashes.
Stop using online play as a measuring stick to gauge how bad or good a character is.
Luffy won b/c he outplayed everyone. Luffy won b/c he has access to the best players in the world.

You know, I was thinking that a part of Luffy’s success could be attributed to matchup inexperience, but then I remembered. Rose’s entire mixup is hit, bait, throw. She doesn’t even have high-low. Crouchblock, tech throws, punish everything and IN THEORY there’s no reason why she should win anything. This victory is 100% due to the player being a monster.

Gratz to Louffy and the soul society! Last night he put on a clinic and it was great to watch
