LS 58 01 Thread and Questions

I could except I don’t feel like redoing all the soldering with non-solid core wires and cleaning it up right now. ^^;

I’ll just take a picture of the VF plate on top of the P-40 plate to show if the mounting holes are lined up perfectly. =D

You mean to tell me that it’s bad enough that you can’t just remove the JLF from the HRAP 3?

If it was a HRAP3, no problem, but I modded my Arcana Heart 2 stick with sanwa buttons and I made a mess of the wiring (first soldering/mod job I did).

But, you’re right, I should just open it up and do it for the community. It’ll be good knowledge for everyone.

You have to do.

Alright, due to popular demand I have done what was requested. =D

P-40 in a HRAP3 style mounting bracket:

Because I know someone will ask about this one…

P-40 in a universal mounting bracket in my HRAP EX-SE:

So, I think that’s it. The P-40 plate is the most universal mounting plate for the Seimitsu compact sticks.

Bonus: The wiring “mess” I mentioned in my modded Arcana Heart 2 stick:

That wiring makes me want to cry.

Does anyone happen to know if there is gonna b a ls-58 not ls-58-01? I’m just asking because i have a HRAP EX and did not know if there was a way to install the ls-58-01 in my stick which does not use the 5 pin harness.

Hrm, so if I bought one of these for aesthetic reasons and put the spring from my ls-56-01 onto it the stick would feel exactly like an ls-56-01? I LOVE the ls-56-01 + 8way due to the accuracy and I’d hate to mess with that simply to make my stick look a little better.

Also, Focus Attack appears to have 3 color variations of the ls-58-01 in stock (pink, blue and clear I believe).

You can buy the stick and 4 extra ls-56 microswitches from akishop, it will fit perfectly.

Focus Attack has/had most varieties of colors for the LS-58-01-CX in-stock Monday. Didn’t see the dark blue version, though.

Their stock of -58’s come with the MS plate standard. Same deal with VideogamesNewYork. Other shops (like Gremlin Solutions) seem to be carrying the -58 with the SS Mounting Plate.

The MS Mounting Plate should be fine for well over half the new joystick cases on the market. The joystick that continues to be a problem for people who want an alternate joystick (ie, Seimitsu) is the HRAP 3 and revised HRAP 1 configuration/licensed HRAP’s. You need the VF or P-40 Mounting plates for the HRAP 3/HRAP 2 licensed joysticks.

Focus Attack did say they were going to try to get P-40 plates for future -58 shipments. That seems to be the plate to get if you have concerns about overall compatibility issues with multiple faceplate stick mount configurations.

Thank you Hori and Qanba for confusing the hell out of players with revision/differences between your stick model mounting areas!
(Seimitsu shares some blame, too, for the confusing number of mounting plates they use for their joystick lines but they really don’t control the exclusive/cheaper mounts Hori uses on non-SA/SE model HRAP’s.)

This business with the LS-56/-58 Mounting Plates definitely deserves a sticky in the Knowledge Base FAQ’s. Hell, the Seimitsu joysticks in general need HUGE Asterisks/BOLD faced CAPITAL type for “exceptions” in mounting the various joysticks on different faceplates…

Most stores that have the LS-58-01 in stock are carrying them with MS mounting plates.

I guess the word about the shaft height problems with the SS Mounting Plate got out quickly!

I predict the clear shaft/bubbletop version of the LS-58-01 is going to be a popular joystick once the confusion about it settles down. I doubt it’ll knock the JLF and LS-32-01 out of their rankings but it might at the very least diminish the popularity of the LS-56 series and possibly the LS-40’s.

I know I’m going to get at least one of them to try out on one of my stick cases… I might actually end up swapping out an LS-40-01 that I just installed for an LS-58-01. Or it might go into the Hori Soul Calibur V joystick once I can afford to buy it…

Is there an easy way to pull off the shaft cover on these guys? Mine won’t seem to come off, but I’m not wild about the color-all-the-way-down! look of these puppies, nor what it does to my ability to swap out ball tops. In hindsight, I suppose I should have gotten the “clear” color. I’ll know for next time!

You have to remove the Shaft to take off the Shaft Cover.
The Shaft Cover goes on the opposite way of how a JLF Shaft Cover goes on.

I’m sorry for bumping this, but I’m wondering something about this stick. I’ve considered getting this for a future mod of a MadCatz Brawlstick (which I’ve heard has a near-identical interior as the SE) that will have all Seimitsu parts. Will this mount correctly onto it with the default MS plate, or would the P-40 plate be better?

There is actually two P-40 Mounting Plates.
There is the Seimitsu Mounting Plate P-40 (Flat) and the SS Mounting Plate P-40 (S-shape).

Using the S-shape will mount the LS-58-01 high.

You use either the MS Mounting Plate or Seimitsu Mounting Plate P-40.
Take your pick.

I like Seimitsu but why oh why do they have to be different about stuff like this??? To have to take the joystick apart to get the shaft off? Ridiculous!

Then again, this is the same company that doesn’t make a shaft cover for its most popular stick line (LS-32), either.

Love Seimitsu but they are a quirky company!

Seimitsu’s joystick designs have been around for quite a while, JLFs are actually one of the more recent sticks. They’re not being different so much as making the same stuff they’ve been making for a long time.

I’m not sure if this is simply a language issue, but I took them both apart and the springs are obviously different, both in look and feel.

It was reported before the LS-58 got released that the major difference between it and the LS-56 was a looser spring. The spring in the -56 is “tighter,” has more tension. Otherwise, other than the the availability of an S-Mount for the -58, there’s not much difference between the two sticks.

Soooooo…this “New LS-58” joystick is basically just an LS-56 with an Seimitsu SS Mounting Plate on it? lol. I would have utilized that time to concentrated on their main joystick (LS-32) and spend time finding ways on make that better instead but anyway.

At first, that’s what most people thought, but now that a couple of us have gotten to play on the LS-58, we’re finding that it’s probably the best stick Seimitsu makes (at least for shmups). Check out this thread (towards the bottom of the page).
