I totally agree with this…i played guys last night and some where asking how to play because i was beating Reset Heavy Magneto’s with Silver Sent Cammy. But i told this one guy the only reason i can get close to winning with SilverSam was i got Infinitely whupped by MSP from some of the Top Marvel Players down here in Atlanta back in the day. I would win every now and then but after records of 2wins -100 losses the only thing i gained was defense. That same defense and being able to notice how to block crossovers, resets, and what have you’s helps me continue to play My Team effectively. Usually if i play the generic magneto that thinks this game is still about mixups and resets and doesnt do the infinite on point i usually punish and win.
When the tiers go past Half Ass Infinites, i still feel that you will be better off Messing with the Top 6, (Sentinel, Storm, Cable, Magneto, Cyclops, Psylocke) Or if you wanna stick to someone like Silver Samurai as i did :wonder: You’re still gonna have a top 6 Char/Assist or (Capcommando). Still love the game tho, win or lose. I think thats the better question to ask How competitive are you? And if you are low tier loving, do you like getting your ass handed to you till youre effective to win it back? :looney:
What would running a tourney using this randomizer with all the high tier (and really low tier) characters blacklisted look like? Every single team would be random without the chance of someone drawing Sent or something like that and not having to use his other two.
There are lots of nice DHCs, assist setups and 2 or 3-man THCs out there that can snag you wins. Most of it just isn’t heavily documented like it is for The Usual Suspects?.
It’s gratifying to find out how to do it more-or-less on your own… and you end up getting good defense and fundamentals in the process.
Nobody is saying you won’t take plenty of lumps on the way there, though… :looney:
With Cyc you can do c.lp + cyc, c.fp -> sj.lk, sj.lk, (cyclops hits), curse. Although imho, It’s not reliable because you do need the c.lp (or lk) at the beginning to get the timing right, and as any good curse victim knows, you should be jumping around in hopes of messing up the timing of the curse inf. If they get hit with c.lp while they aren’t grounded, they will bounce out. There may be an easier way to connect it with Cyc, but meh.
It’s also extremely hard to do curse inf with Sonson aa assist reliably, but it is possible. Launch + sonson, sj.fk, Sonson hits, curse. The trick is that Sonson has to have all 3 hits connect before they fly up, so they stay in position to get hit with the curse, which is really hard to do. I can usually only get one or two hits of Sonson aa to connect before the opponent flies out.
I’ve only managed to connect curse with Sonson maybe twice, and the first time was a total fluke that caught me off guard. I can’t recreate it in training mode, but maybe you’ll have better luck.
I would say, skip both of those assist (well, still use Sonson assist because it’s gdlk) and use Storm Beta assist (lightning attack). MUCH easier to connect (Launch + Storm, sj.fk, storm hits, curse), can be used from nearly anywhere on the screen, and you’ll have Storm on your team, which is a plus in itself.
Anakaris also has some fun stuff he can do with Storm Beta assist, that I won’t go into here.
yeah, aside from like derek said, I don’t really like cyk. plus it’s not true low tier if that’s what’s your goin for.
other assists are more reliable like storm LA assist, IM-B, Jin typhoon, zangief-ground.
for sonson, you can hit them with instant overhead into curse> j.lp, j.hp+sonson, wait a bit, curse.
if using tron or silsam for low tier>cr.lk+assist, cr.mp, sjc tkcurse is what I do.
like derek said though, it’s much easier to get a low launch then try and time a cr.light against a jumping op.
i don’t think gabe is on live, but you can ask against the peeps who played my anakaris (and I don’t use god or high tiers with him) what I did to their top tier and low tier teams.
What exactly are the rankings of tiers? I try to keep all my teams low tier. Although, I do have Storm and Doom in seperate teams. I guess they really dont count huh?
Hey Juggerknot, thanks for the compliment on PSN the other day, even though I still lost to that Cable player. Hard to get in on him with Geif. Oh well…(shrugs shoulders… walks away, defeated… cries self to sleep…:crybaby:)
god: storm/sent/mags/cable
high: im/wm/BH/strider/doom/spiral/cyclops (I think that’s everyone)
dhalsim is still debated for high tier status. he has the tools apparently, but we haven’t seen much to say that he should be there.
it’s all right to use some high…or even god tiers in your team against high tier/god tier teams I guess. but you still can’t really call it low tier (and don’t try playing it against low tier thinking it’s a fair “low tier” team).
as long as you leave out the god/high tier that’s pretty much low tier.
that low tier league is ass, can’t believe that let cyke ron in as a team. LOL
there’s a bunch of haters out there that say 2 low tier characters with tron on your ISN’T low tier, I say it is. However, its good to play both styles of low tier. Low tier w\o tron and low tier with tron.
I think you CAN make the argument that anakaris is god tier. If you allow him to SJ peak height and throw coffins all day, very few low tiers can stop him. You have to change your team chemistry to even stand a shot of winning IMO. He limits the cast tremendously if you allow him to do that, you can make a simple rule saying that you can play mummy but he has a limit of SJ max height coffins he can do, I think thats fair.
i know. that’s I don’t bother with it. they took out tronY, but still let in cyc guess you NEED to pick a fast character to even keep up with him (on the ground) but you still can’t beat his priority. he can chip you (run away, keep away, etc.) all day lol.
I didn’t bother mentioning tron. I think it can go either way and I can go either way with it.
yeah, mummy can be annoying when an assist/move hits him to top of screen :P. I don’t know about being a problem at max SJ height though. could you give me some examples? hmmm. I don’t imagine it’s harder than getting in on a buff omega and/or BBH and/or mega man etc. team with a lot of characters.
No doubt… it was well deserved. That room was kind of frustrating; the Cable player wasn’t even all that great!
IMO, Storm does count. When I run Jugg/Sent/Hulk, I don’t call it a true ‘low-tier’ team. Doom does not count, though. He’s very good, and dangerous in capable hands… but he’s not tops.
Thanks guys. Anakaris is a fav of mine as well, but his wet paper sack defence leaves much to be desired. I know Strider has low defence , but he can keep up pressure a lot easier that Anakaris can, even with a good asist. I’m not sure I’d rank him in the god tier.
I need Doom to round out my “Great Balls of Fire” team
Bison/Thanos/Doom.
I admit, after Bison and Thanos have proven to be the push overs they are against the god tier brigades, Doom was my only saving grace. I’ve snatched victory from the jaws of defeat a few times like that.
I don’t know… Doom is good, his assist helps most anybody and a good one is a pain to fight. Granted all of that.
But still, when somebody picks Doom I basically say to myself “Whew, that could have been [insert god tier here]”. He has just enough lag on his stuff to let you in.
If your Doom is sloppy - I will bust his ass. Period. Unless it’s got pretty good Strider or Cable behind it. I’m not really scared of him. I will add the disclaimer that my core can hurt Doom quickly, where maybe some other low tiers have a harder time. I can agree to disagree.
