lord hollow has a bunch of footage of “low” tier from MWC this weekend
VDO
Flapp
ken/doom/guile player (good team overall, just the player could be a bit better)
psy/silsam/doom player (same as above)
I did a bit of marrow/megaman/ken
I also proposed a game for a few of us where we had to pick whatever team the computer picks (once it goes back to arcade mode) and play it. you can pick whatever assist/order. for the first time ever you will see VDO play some other low tiers…so good/entertaining. it was quite fun :]
haha hell yea. I love copying the computers teams. Sometimes, they give you some fucked up squads!
the last time I played vdo, I opted to be fair with my low tiers and not pick tron. He beat me off the stick several times with his double wolvie\ken AA team. I’m ready this time though.
I don’t play him much either. But I would say yeah, I think it’s possible for he and sonson to make comebacks…especially if there is some meter. just electrocute everything. haha
The funniest thing about Dan is how tiger-knee qcb+k becomes a defensive maneuver. I like that after a quick dash in plus assist, TK it and bait a response.
Would any one be intersted in setting up a low-tier league when MVC2 hits Live later in the month? I’d be stoked if I could get some players to engage in some low-tier ranking battles or something similar.
Also, could someone show me to the rules of NEC low-tier? I know it has something to do with ratios and whatnot but I can’t seem to locate the thread or rule list.
That being said, I’ve thought of my own method to govern low-tier matches. I think a point system would work pretty well. Of course, I think banning the God-Tier characters as well as Iron Man and WM is obvious. Players start with 7 points to pick a team with. Middle tier characters (such as Black Heart and Rogue) cost 2 points while lower tier characters (Such as Felicia and Cammy) cost 1. Top tier assists cost another 2 points (Such as Doom’s Beta or Tron’s Gamma.) Here are two examples on how a player could build a team:
I think this system is smart because it’ll encourage creativity and will still avoid an obvious, overpowering team.
I’d also like to say that low-tier marvel is not only fun for experienced players, but it’s necessary to introduce new players to the scene. At my local arcade, when myself and other skilled players fool around with low tier matches, we get a lot more players willing to try out the game. Not only is it intimidating seeing someone getting rommed to death, but new players I’m sure are convinced that they lack the skill required to emulate such a combo. Low-tier matches are more ‘noob’ friendly because even though beginners will surely be beasted when facing more practiced players, these new challengers can go into training mode and x-copy the combos with a lot more ease than figuring out what the f*** fast flying is. An additional bonus is that new players, if they want to step their game up with top tier characters, can develop a solid foundation with a few characters which pair up nicely with top tiers.
Let me know what you think! I can’t wait to play with you guys (no homo.)
I think the point system would be cool! Do you think it would be possible to develop one that would work with god tier characters? Like maybe having characters such as Magneto take up all your points and having Roll be “free”? I don’t really understand that much about MvC2 and am absolutely not competitive in it so I wouldn’t be able to make my own system, but I would love to borrow someone else’s for a local tournament.
A point system to bring out the low tiers would be interesting, but I think it would be hard to come to agreement on costs. Plus, as the point system would essentially re-balance the game and potentially just cause more problems.
How about a pick/ban system? It’s something that they used in DOTA to help balance out the tiers and diversify gameplay.
The way I’d suggest it working is each player gets to picks a character, then they each ban two characters, then they pick their other two characters. A ban would mean that neither player can choose that character.
This wouldn’t completely hate out the top tier characters, but hate out top tier teams whenever an opponent wishes. Additionally, it leaves the option to allow them if both players decide they to play top tier teams.
This is off-topic but there are no real discussion threads left. Humor me.
What is up with Ken’s Shoryureppa in this game? it seems like you can punish ANYTHING with it, as long as they have the tiniest bit of frame disadvantage. Even from full screen.
Like if you block a proton cannon, then activate. Ken dances across the whole stage and goes through 30 frames of animation while the opponent recovers none.
Mabe they get stuck in the super flash throughout the whole attack?
Okay, so today is my first day playing Marvel. I’m a total joke. I don’t think I want to bother with tourneys for this game or anything, I just want to fuck around on LIVE, so I’m just wondering…how imbalanced is the game exactly? I mean in other games the tier list is dictated by a matchup chart where each matchup is rated out of 10 games.
In MvC2 this is impossible. How are the tiers dictated then? Is it possible to beat Magneto/Sentinel/Storm teams if you are using decent characters and are on the same skill level as the opponent? How hard is it?
Pixies (combo heavy characters like Storm, Magneto, Psylocke, and Cammy) beat projectile characters.
Projectile characters (characters like Cable and Iceman) beat giants.
Giants (powerful, high health characters, but big and slow, like Sentinel and Colossus) beat pixies.
So, basically:
Pixies > Projectiles > Giants > Pixies
So a team like Mag/Storm/Sent could be countered by Sent/Cable.
Tiers are dictated by overall usefullness (their assists, DHCs, THCs, traits, power, speed, supers, normals). Like for example, Sent is not only a good assist, but also a fine point character.
Other people can add on, this is just what I know (and I don’t know a lot IMO)
My low tier is doing pretty well. Played online at my friends yesterday, my low tier team only lost once. Of course its online but I guess it counts for something.
The whole Pixie/Beamer/Fat character ruleset generally no longer applies to the game IMO.
Not getting hit beats getting hit at high level play.
Another way to look at it is characters/duos with practical infinites or powerful DHCs that can be started from many different combo scenarios beat all comers. Honorable mention goes to characters with easily exercised control of important angles.
To win with low tier you have to generally exploit basic things that they can do with some outside the box thinking. You also have to have strong fundamentals.
