Hi my friends and I are trying to set up some form of low tier little tournament none of us are really good players so i’ve been trying pretty hard to set up some form of ratio we can play by if anyone could help with some feed back or advice i’d really appreciate it

Wow, I would own this tournament with Megaman/Silver Samurai/Tron Bonne. :tup: Those are pretty much my favorite characters too - good work.
People keep trying to do stuff like this, you’re not going to get perfection. Just go with what feels right for you and refine it after the tournaments. =\
the ratio system gets complicated because of the sheer amount of characters in the game. So imo, banning characters it simplest way of doing things. You don’t want a low tier tourney turning into a math problem :wasted: you also have problems of who goes where. Like in your listings, mega man sucks but in fact, he’s quite good. He’s a top 20 character easy and dhalsim needs to be banned. Banning characters gets rid of the controversy as well of who belongs where.
This is how we play low tiers: by we, I meaning the local crew I play with.

cyke, IM\WM, strider, doom, spiral, BH, dhalsim
If I’m not missing anyone, which I could be, everyone else is playable even trons assists.
Leaving out everything everyone else has, his jump busters do 20 points of damage so you basically get to spam the screen with rocket punch level damage. And his move range is extremely limited but faster than anyone else, so if you give him a little shelter you can pretty much throw busters at people all day long. (His rushdown is really fun too since he outprioritizes everyone, but that’s tough to do because of those range limitations.)
Mega Man is definitely no ‘Point 1’ character, my friend.
At the very least, he should be about ‘Point 3’.
Silver Samurai to a lesser extent, but only because he has the cheesy Launch Lightning combo. Other than that, he has extremely bad normals, and that can really sour up your day if you’re up against a higher tier that can actually fling punches faster than him.
Other than that, I agree with the sentiment that if you’re holding Low-Tier, rub off the ‘Sinister Six’ from the roster at once.
Samurai is a solid mid-tier character. Higher than average stamina, does GOOD damage, good chip ability, effective supers, good launcher, decent assists, and useful powerups(ice!).
He is not to be taken lightly, and that is just if he is on his own. Can be a chip nightmare if paired up with doom. Should be a point 2 character at least, maybe point 3.
The thing is, SS has is no threat as far as chip damage is concerned without a good lockdown assist.
I play SS, and honestly, I use him for his lightening super. (insane damage, instant recovery) I haven’t used him in a while and IIRC, the lightening power up increases the damage of his super. Either way, he’s not a point 1 character.
And neither is thanos.
but, banning characters is the easiest way out, as shoult said. I would honestly ban spiral.
i dont think there is an official way to do low tier shit yet. but the simplest way in my opinion is to just ban the top four. and instead of banning assist characters just ban the assist. no projectile tron. no AAA capcom, psylock, or cyclops ect…
dhalsim is going to get real good if people keep playing marvel but not enough to shake the big four

Agreed. That’s the best way to get started with low-tier tournaments. You don’t turn away people who don’t want to solve a math equation before they chill out and play some games. Low tier has to be all about fun match-ups. If somebody wants to pick, Doom/Tron/Psy let em, just ban the top-tier assists and eveybody’s happy.
One major thing about the point system is that 9 times out of 10, people work them out based on the current tier lists. To me thats a no-no b/c the tier lists out there have been created based around the top tier play style. If you take that out of the equation, there’s a lot of flip-flopping that’s bound to happen when the game goes back to '99 jump-around marvel.

Yea fuck that. Thats the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard. Keeping spiral in when her lock down will be virtually inescapeable, leave doom around for his photon shit, let BH trap low tiers, let strider trap everything, let cyke jump around and KK super? cmon…
ban these characters: top 4, cyke, strider, IM\WM, doom, BH, spiral, dhalsim. Thats it.
sim needs to go. He can chill @ the top of the screen all day easy in a low tier tourney.
I can definitely see the wisdom behind banning Spiral. Knives lock-down is too much of a freebie.

Maybe a ban on multiple top-tier assists? I dunno maybe low tier marvel’s tough enough for that.
I can see the reasoning behind banning Mag, Storm, Cable, Sent, IM/WM, Spiral, Strider, Doom, BH, Dhalsim, Cyke. With that set-up you remove the broken characters and the ones who can run-away and/or fill the screen with too much garbage to deal with. I feel like these Rules would gear towards Tron-based teams, which is fine b/c most of the low-tier teams that people run are Tron-based anyway.
The major reason why I’m torn between the above rules, and something closer to what Shaolin Otter offered up is that when you keep Tron assist an option, you create a new Top Tier echelon. Morrigan, Spidey, Rogue, Chun backed by Tron become the new top because they can make “top tier” use of Tron.
I realize you can’t please everybody with Low Tier rules, but I feel like there’s a compromise between the two poles. Maybe a straight ban on God and Top Tiers, and then a point system based on assists. The one definite to all this is that Low Tier tournaments have to get more widespread just so that we can play through enough tournaments that the rules become more fine-tuned concrete.

When you create a ban system or even a ratio system for a low tier tourney, a new crop of characters will become top tier aside from the ones that are banned and in this case, morrigan\psy are @ the top of the low tier list.
