"Low Health, Low Damage" - The Yosuke Hanamura Thread

Also I was fighting a yosuke with my kanji a little while ago and he hit me with a counterhit mirage slash and got a huge combo off for a bit more than half my health. I was kinda wondering what play style he fits into since he doesnt have as solid rush down as chie and no mixups but can get some huge damage combos off of some counter hits.

Yes he is. If you aren’t mixing it up with Yosuke, you’re really playing him wrong.

ok.

He has no oki game and his high low game isn’t half as solid as some of the rest of the cast. some of his moves work well in some mixups but are better suited for combos. Now I’m asking Tebbo since he seems to be the only person who gets this. What kind of a character is yosuke?

I guess if you really something to call him i would say a hit and run character. his speed allows him excellent rush down and run away and he has tools suited to both styles, his kunai and j.d provide him with options to pester and get in at any range, while his quick persistent normals give him great pressure. His main mix up tool is his speed which is why many people label him as a mix up character and i personally don’t think their entirely wrong to do so. But hit and run is more accurate.

He’s a character with the best maneuverability in the game.

yosuke has mixup. just like everyone in the game. you need to use mixup just like every character. his mixup isn’t exceptional though.
just watch any good yosuke player. depending on the matchup you’ll either see some cautious pressure looking for an opening to do some damage or you’ll see a really passive looking neutral game where yosuke looks to catch the opponent out of position or counter hit for huge damage. or a combination.

but whatever. if people want to call him a mixup character i don’t think it really matters. i just don’t understand the logic. do people put him and kanji in the same category then? that just seems weird. because kanji is THE mixup character in the game.

so yeah i’d agree with notgeckoroman and zach lewis. he doesnt really have wakeup mixup, he doesn’t really have outstanding normal mixup. he has the ability to have positional advantage all the time.

Yosuke has a ton of shenanigans with high/low moves, especially in Sakukaja but this isn’t really the only reason…his huge speed, especially in that mode, amplifies a lot of “non-mixups” to be mixups.

I actually feel like Yosuke might be the most mixup-heavy character in this game with the exception of Shadow Labrys (who is THE vortex character). Yosuke isn’t really a vortex character though, but his mixup can still be pretty overwhelming.

I suppose it doesn’t matter what people call him but from playing a ton of Kanji and then trying to work with yosuke i found that he doesn’t have much besides an alright high low game and some moonsault stuff. I do think the description of high mobility character fits him though i have to ask about some of the extended fatal counter combos cause a guy did one on me that went on and on and took away so much of my life while only spending meter on the super at the end. I was a bit shocked because i felt i didnt fully understand what kind of character he was at the moment.

This is the kind of character he is:

I love watching vids of good players playing a game and just seeing one cool thing that they do and just picking it up and using it. One of my favorite things about bettering myself with a certain character in any game really. That Yosuke was beast and that combo off of counter hit D (ch D, AA, cr A, AAA xx Moonsault A x2, Flying Kunai) is so cool. Deffinitely will try remembering that. Thanks Zeik56!

If no one minds answering my noobish question, how do you perform a one more? I know about using burst in the middle of combos to do it but how do you do the other way that costs meter but doesn’t have blowback?

you mean a one more cancel? its ABC

thanks!

What? He has good oki, just not as good as say chie or yu. He can use 5D and then go for a 50/50, and it’s safe.
Not only can he make himself safe but he can fish for counter hits or regain his pressure.

Yosuke is a high mixup, fastest ingame speed, low health, low damage unless its a fatal in the corner character.

Here is a rather stupid question but nonetheless one I need to ask:

In Yosuke matches I see him be able to dash forward and CH with 5A with amazing regularity at what seems a neutral position. Now is this Yosuke players just dashing forward into a blockstring and getting the counterhit or is there a reactable read involved. I like to think of it as a player seeing the other start their slower dash/run then going up and smacking them quick.

Basically I am making a big list on what to do in the neutral game and to approach for myself.
