Losing for all ages! The new Rage thread (with props to Gruntsworthy)

Yeah I know, don’t worry. It’s just for brag.
I’m actually going to my first big offline event soonish, but I like that online allowed me to start from nothing one year and a half ago to where I am now. ( which is nowhere near enough, just decent catch up )

What event are you going to?

The next Paris Apocalypse probably. ( it’s more of a monthly than a big tournament tho ) I’ll try to see for Republics of Fighters.
I missed Stunfest for stupid reason. :frowning:

Kinda been going back to my roots recently, there’s a Smash scene brewing in my town. We have between 8-10 guys showing up on the regular to throw down now, good times. Hoping to maybe get a couple of them into SF, I know at least one of the other guys plays (and plays Mak too!)

Got bit by the Karakusa > nothing bug again today and lost a couple of matches I had no business losing. The frustration set in something fierce…

I have the hardest time fighting Dan and his post single knee mix ups. I can jab, forward dash under, lp fukiage or block if he tries to go for another one right after I block the first one. But those options will lose to a dp or a throw. If I go for back dash, jump or IAT, to beat a throw attempt. I lose to a consecutive knee or a dp… sigh I struggle vs Dan…

I don’t really know how to fight Dan either. I hate his guts. I usually just counterpick players I know play Dan with Viper.

It’s sort of like a mini version of other character’s vortexes. You’re just going to have to guess once they get it started. Once you know it’s a bunch of guesses, it’s a little more easy to not get upset. They are making guesses too. I agree however that it’s really frustrating.

I tend to try to zone Dan’s and try to keep them from starting that dan kick mixups. Cr.mk does stuff the Dan kicks if spaced right. I’ve never tried the cr.mk throw tech. Does that work for Dan? That might cover you for more options and just leave you open to uppercut.

Got blown up at the tourney, went 2-2, losing twice to the same Ibuki player.
I’m mad, I usually deal with that match up pretty well, but I missed something close to 75% of my instant axekick because of the couch we played in. I’m used to play on a chair way high up, I had a hard time adaptating to that for some reason.

Sounds like a bad excuse but it really put me out of focus when missing so many of them.

not a bad excuse at all. if the stick isn’t sitting right on your lap or you’re not properly aligned with the stick, IA tsurigi, kara kara etc. don’t come out right, unless you get use to the new position. happens to me all the time.

Yeah I agree. It’s legit

Not a rage or anything but I’ve been using Chun a lot lately, pretty much learning her as a secondary because she’s fun. I’ve barely touched Makoto though.
It just feels so wonderful being able to simply walk to where I want to go on screen with Chun as opposed to feeling like I’m a rock with Makoto, not moving anywhere unless I’m thrown…

Last time I did play Makoto though, I was in a foul mood and ripped through the guy I was playing against because I simply didn’t care what happened, as a result I never hesitated. Still in a pretty cruddy mood though.

Playing Makoto angry is pretty fun sometimes.

I don’t second guess anything. I make a choice without worrying, if it’s wrong it’s wrong, if it’s right it’s right (which is the usual result in this case). There is no “I waited too long trying to think of the best option”. If I can work that in to my usual game I think that’d be a big step towards getting better.

I find dan very free. 2MK shuts down knee’s at all ranges.

on the topic of pp and bp. I’m experiencing the same thing, win the vast majority and still lose a ton of points.

I have just gritted my teeth and refused to lose lately. Got my shit up from 13.2k back up to almost 14.3k. Goal is to get back to 15k before Ultra drops.

Played some Makoto games. Can’t play Makoto, all that flows through my mind is “why are they nerfing her, I don’t see anything that made her too strong”.
Don’t see how EX Fukiage makes up for everything…and a C.HP stun boost with a slight tweek to cross up MK which I have barely seen used yet. I just can’t think at the moment.

Was playing against a Rufus too. He’s just gonna be stupid in Ultra, just dive kick again if they DWU, same for twins.

“I should have stopped playing an hour ago.” These infamous words were spoken yet again, every hour I played last night and this morning. When I get on a losing streak, I refuse to stop until I win a few in a row…such a bad mindset.

Haven’t played ranked in a good while, only player match, or helping a friend train weekly. But hey, I figured I’d prep for USF4’s release, not like points matter anyway. Started the night with 5200 BP, 2300PP. Ended this morning in BP hell with 4000, and 1000PP. I don’t care about the points at all, what hurts is my pride as a makoto player. I know I was legitly beat a few times, and had some good games…but the rest were all my fault…my dumb errors that cost everything.

My problems-
-My executional errors:
Error 1: I keep blowing my throw techs.
Error 2: I keep getting hit by cross ups due to blocking too late.
Error 3: My inputs aren’t coming out. This happens every match, and it’s usually any qc motion. The sad part is that I can’t tell if it’s me or my dpad. I prefer playing on pad to my stick currently…but this is getting ridiculous. It feels like ever since I got my new pad, diagonals won’t come out. I will execute a special during a combo, but makoto will just pop up, stand still, and feed 1/3 of her health to the opponent. Oh! And don’t get me started on when I get an opponent into the corner combo, and fukiage doesn’t come out. GG.

-lag is one for sure. I find it hilarious that just about every Guile I run into lags whenever they throw a sonic boom (no offense to Guile’s or anything).

-hesitation: The more I lose, the more safe I try to play. My mix ups and thrill for battle die down. Obviously, this causes my pressure game to fail harder than it already is, and leaves me open for opponents to dictate the match. Also, kill-securing dies down, which leaves me open to so many comebacks.

I’ve also been taking to many hits that I should be blocking. But that’s pretty much due to all of the above.

Seems that every time I come back to ranked I have to climb out of these losing vortexes. And there’s no delayed wakeup to save me from myself.

Oh Jesus I could probably have 20k BP if I stopped when I said I was going to lol. I almost never quit while I’m ahead.
